TGR's Modified PowerBuilding v2.0

My parents drove from Toronto to Myrtle Beach over the last couple of days. They got all unpacked today in their hotel, only to be told they have to be out tomorrow by 11 and 100 miles from the coast. My dad couldnt get the wifi in the hotel to work of course, so I was tasked to find them a hotel Wed-Sun. So many already sold out... but got them in a Country Inn and Suites in Florence... not a great way to start a trip!

Good luck Thomas et al.

Oh wow! I'm sorry Simon! Glad you were able to get them in Florence! Let me know if you have any trouble! I've got room if they need it!

They should've planned for Florida. They could've stayed here at no charge over $110/night. lol

Scary stuff. You guys be safe

Bar came in. I'm a little disappointed in the knurling and lack of aggressiveness, but it is better than my current gyms bars. It'll keep longer with just me and kiddo. Hoping the rack gets here soon.

I'm in the evacuation area but I'm not leaving. Securing some more stuff tomorrow and buckling up. I'm anticipating a couple days without power at least.

I have plenty of water and food. Unfortunately my two fridges and 3 freezers are packed so I may lose quite a bit of perishables if we lose power over a day. I also have liquor and hot beer on hand. Gotta be prepared.

I don't know if I updated with stuff going on with the kids or not but I likely will this weekend. Most of the reason I've been limited in here and the other part of the reason I've been out of the gym other than the bicep tendinitis. Younger kiddo is on his way home tonight.

Speaking of tendinitis, it's still here. I didn't ice or rehab today. Too sore from yesterday.

Congratulations on the new bar.

Prayers for you and family. Stuff every cubic inch of the freezers with bags of ice or frozen water bottles.

Make sure you have the family versed on where to meet in case anyone gets separated.

Great idea on the ice. Thanks Kenpo.

MY RACK HAS SHIPPED!!!!

If I don't die in this hurricane I'll have it Monday or Tuesday.

Which zone are you in on the map.. Hope all is ok my friend... you should have evacuated to Toronto and worked out in my garage! I even have COLD beer!

I may, actually.

Just checked fb and He posted something on there yesterday around 11 am. I'm sure hes fine, just busy taking care of things.

Anyone heard from Thomas, i sent him a bbm... no response..

I just saw it. It's been a hectic weekend. No power or internet during the storm and until Saturday night. I'm lucky though, there are still 100-200k without power. We personally had no damage. Some generator fiasco though...

My garage is seminoles themed already so I'm painting an FSU logo on the deadlift platform of the rack. Hoping the rack arrives tomorrow.

Kiddo has a game tonight to make up for the one missed for the storm. It's going to be a busy week I imagine.

I'm glad you made it through that storm! Your gym is going to be AWESOME!

It won't be as advanced as yours or Simons, but should be a good start. Thanks Mark.

Very cool platform idea, and glad to see you made it!

Thanks Rob.

Glad you are ok! You should paint a Bruins one on there instead ;)

Except they B RUIN everything.

Also artist ! Compliments

Thank you

Pretty awesome paint work there dude. Looks great.

Thanks Capo.

Two coats of poly on and I may do one more.

I think I remember you talking about podcasts recently. Which ones do you recommend?

Well, all of Mark Bell's Powercasts are available and are usually entertaining, Chris Duffin/Kabuki Strength has like 6 out now that are more on the technical side of things , and Westside Barbell has at least 14 where basically Louie goes thru Q&A on what he believes is optimal for various sport training as well as the what's and whys of the Westside conjugate approach for competitive powerlifting. I think 11-14 are most specific to the WSB method, and you will need to listen to them a few times to grasp everything. Louie is a rambling old man with way too much experience so it can be a bit tough to digest.

I've never listened to it but the Joe Rogan Experience is supposed to be a great general podcast.

I got those already. I was disappointed that they didn't update more. I got 5-10 minutes into the Powercast today and they were just gossiping like women. I'll try to stick one out and see if they actually have substance in there.

Thanks

1/3 of my rack came in. 1/3 is missing in limbo because they misspelled the address and the final third was sent back to the shipper because of damage in transit. On top of that I had the rack sized at 90"H which would give a little over 2" for the platform. Unfortunate, one beam in the garage is sitting at 91.25". I have to change my platform plans.

I really wanted to 4x8 sheets on the bottom to secure the platform and padding on. The top layer will be 3/4", so i either have to use 1/4" sheets or 3/8 if they have them. Otherwise i'll have to glue or screw them into the concrete, which i wanted to avoid.

I believe they have 3/8" sheets at most home depot's, it would be better to do 3/8" if possible.

If you have to do 1/4" you will just need more layers.

I assume you meant 1/4 in the second paragraph. I'll look for 3/8. I have sturdy concrete and will have 3/4" rubber/mat (like yours) on top so the protection should be there. Undecided on bumpers. I want what you have but.... $$$$$.

Yep, 1/4". I only get like 4 hours of sleep a night, so my brain doesn't work.

The biggest thing with the mat is to have something to bolt down to, outside of that it disperses the force across a wider surface area so any amount is better than none.

The rogue competition bumpers are extremely accurate, along with their PL plates. The bumpers are comparatively cheap for that accuracy, they just take up more real estate on a barbell.

A guy around here sells Hi Temp bumpers for relatively cheap, so i may go that route.

HiTemp are the widest ones, and they bounce a lot.

That's good to know. They are some of the more expensive at rogue. Not that I'll be filling the bar up anytime soon.

Joe Defranco has a podcast I like.

Who are you?

It is possible I'm confusing my bumpers, but if they are the ones I think they are, they only fit 4 or so per side.

Probably, they look wide. I'm not certain I need bumpers. I'm not worried about sound like my gym is and I don't typically just slam weight anyway. I guess I'll have to see how loud it is at 4 am for my neighbors.

That platform does look pretty cool, I must admit!
Thanks Simon. I hope it all comes together nicely.

Powercast is never educational for the most part; it's just gabbing for entertainment honestly

Yeah, not a fan of jock-talk-radio. I'd rather get something out of it.

Low bar hurt too bad and high bar was rough on my traps. Likely because I haven't done them in so long. It'll progress.

I'm going to ease back into lifting and then do a band/speed dominated program. Huge emphasis on building my hamstrings too.
