6 Week Fat Loss Challenge

If everyone on AM wrote like you do, I would have to quit my job just to have time to keep up with this board. You are a very creative writer and make things very interesting. If you wrote TV shows, I would binge watch them.

Ahhh, the feel good moments! Yes, and more to come. Your wife is going to be proud of her fireman stud in another few weeks! (Let's face it, she doesn't have much to be proud of right now...)

Ok, you know I'm kidding on everything in the parenthesis...

Sorry my reply took so long, but the rawness under my eyes caused by the salty tears makes it difficult to wipe them dry after such a harsh comment.

Today starts the calorie taperdown. I expect to lose a lot of glycogen/water weight (mostly cause I'm a carb fiend and handle carbs pretty well). Here comes the misery!

Riiiight.......And the ocean gets its saltiness from the tears of misunderstood sharks who only want to be hugged

Trust me. This hurts me more than it hurts you. Haha.

Take that misery right to your fat. Show us how to do this.

Nah, the salt is sweat from whales doing cardio. Cardio makes them sing with sad whining voices.

So that's what that noise is when I'm on Jacob's Ladder. It's my song of sorrow, which sounds way better than me just being a whiny little bitch.

Sorry for not being around since yesterday guys. I am psyched about the work going on here. BEAST73 , FireTitan , justhere4comm - all KILLING it. I KNEW Firetitan could turn it on. I am amazed at beast's running and trying hard to keep up, and justhere4comm is just laying it down steady. habajaba has history behind him, but enchiladas??? No 18 pounds coming off like that. You know what else won't help 18 pounds? My cheat meal last night.

I spent 2 hours on the bike yesterday morning, then had a horrific weight workout with NO energy last night. After my workout, I just caved and got a cheat. I justified it, but I was just weak.

Slept from 930 last night until 7 this morning and skipped my morning workout. Spend 100 minutes on a treadmill tonight and ran around 8 miles. No beast here, but I was happy with that, especially since the majority of it was actually running (or jogging for some) at a 6 mph pace.
There is a pattern here of you cheating after trying to do weights after a lengthy cardio session. Each time you do one of these marathon sessions and then try to lift you overextend yourself and end up cheating out of going into survival mode. Keep an eye on that. The benefit you could be making from the long cardio ends up sabotaged by an increase in calories that nullifies all the hard work you just did.
1 cheat is just that! A cheat. Not like I was doing, having s many cheats it was just my diet. Youre still doing so good. Seems like you got some good sleep and 2 hours on the bike is BRUTAL! Also, 6MPH is a RUN for some people!! Like this guy(short legs) keep it up
Hey a 10 minute mile is a run for me that is for damn sure.

Do you guys like exercising with or without a workout partner?
This is a no brainer for me. When you have had the RIGHT PARTNER, there is no question having a partner is hands down the best option. It is not easy to find a good partner but when you do it is such a symbiotic relationship. Things go like clockwork, you motivate each other, keep each other focused and feed off one another.

That having been said it is hard to find a really good workout partner. So I understand why many think having a partner can be sub optimal. However when it comes to strength training, and or Hypertrophy methods like various set extending techniques having a partner can really change the game for you.

I would rather have the gym to myself. I used to have a workout partner and never got shyte done.

The spotting was great when we actually focused. The problem is finding another person with the same focus and drive.
That's a mindset issue, you were doing it wrong. You want to catch up spend 10 minutes on the bike chatting during warm up. Then get to business and keep each other on track. Adopting an I go, you go method or training works well here. Rest is about as long as it takes to adjust the weights then get back in. That or one of you keeps track of the timer.
I personally prefer training alone. But for safety reasons, I can see the purpose of having one. I had a workout partner in Iraq, that guy was perfect. We knew exactly what each other lifted and our rotation was precise. No bullshyt, no wasted time and gainz galore.
I prefer training alone to just having a decent partner, but having a great partner is the best! That's how it is supposed to be.

My last actual training partner was my wife. Has been a few years but we would workout through a series of points, grunts and gestures as we both had our headphones cranked to the max. Was intense and we just got sh!t done! People would talk about us and thought it was funny we lifted together, spotted each other and managed to communicate the way we did without talking. I haven't found anyone else recently that has the same drive as me.

Still have no idea as to my weight, and really dont care at this particular time, only because I SEE a change, and I dont want to lose my mojo. Hell of a bi/tri workout today. Got my racquetball in this morning and about 30 minutes of cardio after the weights. I made the attempt at hammer curls with the hundreds today, got it a few times but ugly. Anyway, I think the leaning is starting to show.Invalid Link Removed

I see a noticeably thinner beast in the mirror. Oh wait, that's you, not me! :) I see some abs starting to poke through...

Nice work dude. The hard work is paying off!

Things look to be tightening up nicely Titan!

Just ate my last meal of the day totalling at about 2300 calories. Gonna keep it this way for this week then next week drop it down to 2100.

Lookin good mah man!

Youre killing me man. Crushing my heart today. Lol. Thanks bro. Ill be glad when I CAN see my abs

I'm happy that you think I was insulting you. I do have a reputation to uphold. But I was actually referring to the fact that it was a mirror shot, so I "thought" I was looking at myself with the sweet abs poking though. Then I realized it was you and I was sad :)

Regardless, I'm with you. Cannot wait to actually see the ol' abs. I know they're in there cuz I can see a darn outline :).

Yeah, not sure it was quite a pattern as much as just weakness and such. I definitely pushed too far and wasn't strong enough mentally at that point to resist. I try to have 1 cheat meal a week - that was last Wed. I believe and I had a wedding on Saturday where I semi-cheated...couldn't weigh my meal and such but had some fish and potatoes and asparagus and then had a small piece of cake - but for that day I think I was still probably below 1500 calories even with everything. I am shooting for 1X per week though and trying to make sure the cheat meal doesn't put me over 2500 calories for that day. It's so mental though.

As I do this cardio, I've been listening to a book called the power of habit. Last night the guy was talking about will power and how they have done studies that show that will power is like a muscle. When you use it, it is a limited resource and eventually you will use it up and fail. Becoming stronger will allow you to use it more often and be better, but the situations you're in also effect how much you use when dealing with different things. Being overly tired/stressed will definitely make it harder to resist temptation. So your pattern is accurate - over extend, then give in to temptation - and what's the point of that? You could have just not over extended to begin with and then not given into temptation and wound up in a better deficit without all the effort.

I appreciate the nudge MrKleen.

Judging by the pics and following the progress, you'll see abs clearly in the next few weeks.
Looking strong, bro!
A bit pale, a tan would look good on you too!

Brother, I am proud of you. You could have given up so easily and just went back to what you were doing. But you didn't take the easy road, and it is already paying off. That mid section is getting tighter already. It won't be 6 months - I think you're 1 week in? 2 weeks in? Just from when you actually pulled it together I'm saying. That, in my mind, is the start of the clock - when you actually got your sh1t in order and became commited. 6 weeks of this and you're going to be in much better shape.

HIT4ME would pull it off in 6 days, LOL

LMAO - I wish. I also wish I had Firetitan's mass. As MrKleen pointed out, I fail just like everyone else. That's kind of the thing about dieting, it involves A LOT of failure. You have to just keep pushing and learn to make those failures as few as possible and make the small wins more numerous than the failures.

It's been 4 weeks for me, and despite all the effort I'm down just about 8 pounds. That's it. The last 2 weeks begins tomorrow. 10 pounds in 2 weeks? I think it can be done. Actually, I think I've already burned some of that fat, I'm banking on it, I'm hoping it just starts coming off over the next week now more consistently.

Im just messing with you my man! Gotta bust yours as bad as you bust mine! Im just glad that I not only have some mojo back, but friends like you to push me along!!

Hahaha!! Thanks, I appreciate it. As far as the tan, some of us dont have the glory of being in banana land and so close to the equator!!

FireTitan - has your wife seen this? Is she thinking you have a college coed girlfriend yet? If not, I'm gonna figure out your home # and call her and start a rumor and make this diet really hard for you.

It wouldnt make it harder....The cost of the divorce would starve me to death!! And yes, she has commented (distastefully) about me getting back in shape and looking younger now that Im on a campus. Coincidence....??

Since I started working out, my wife got very suspicious. Recently contemplating to get a boob job too, lol.

Won't be long man. Again, awesome strength my friend

I wish I could take credit, but I think she is seeing the change and getting scared someone else will be interested since you aren't nesting anymore. Haha.

Gee. Zus. Just moving 2 100's is a hassle.

Today was an off day. I am in my reconditioning phase until Saturday for the weights. Hit the elliptical for 75 minutes. Will finish the day around 900 calories because I was starving and had a quest bar. Shouldn't have done it.

Yeah yeah, I hear ya. But really? A whole quest bar? Come on man! 900 calories is rough, and your dedication is to be commended, not condemned. Stop beating yourself down or I will take that job from you!! One more like Mr. And you sir can forget that burger!!

Your left arm doesn't have any clothes on....haha

Lol, well, MrKleen73 is right. It is just 6 weeks. He is calling it straight and I still need to work on it. But I am not that upset. It happens...lol. and it wasn't a full cheat, but still not part of the plan.
