Not exactly a "douchebag" story, but I saw two girls and a guy squatting (I was doing cable face pulls right next to the squat rack at the time). One of the girls and guy stopped squatting at about 135-155lbs, but the other girl decided to keep going heavier. The only problem is that they were maybe going to 1/3 of the proper depth. Anyway, this one girl ended up going up to 275lbs, but it was such a shallow squat that her knees and lower back were the only areas that any stress was being placed on. I overheard that she wanted to pick up a joint supplement, but went to GNC and a local supplement store where the owner is completely clueless and incredibly arrogant (he says you need 10g/day creatine, and betaine anhydrous is a digestive health supplement, for example; he also made up fake stories about training with a Mr. USA, which I know to be a lie because my dad told me that nothing he said was correct (my dad was actually trained by the bodybuilder he mentioned, lol)). Now, I normally just keep my headphones on and ignore other people's business, but there was just so much wrong that I couldn't ignore it this time, and it's all easily fixable; it's no surprise that her joints are bothering her when she's using way too much weight for squats and keeping the stress pretty much exclusively on her knees, and if you want to powerlift, you better be able to squat to proper depth, or it doesn't matter if you have 500lbs on the bar. Of course, it seemed to me like they thought I was just another guy trying to hit on her; she said she knew she had to squat deeper (then why did you squat 1/3 ROM from every set from 135-275?), and that she likes the local supplement shop because they give her "good discounts," despite the fact that I KNOW even after discounts, he still sells underdosed and overpriced garbage for the most part. Anyway, I tried to be helpful, but I wasn't going to push the envelope when they clearly didn't want to hear it, so I just put my headphones back on and went back to my workout. Oh well, some people just don't want help I suppose. Anyway, that's my gym rant for the day.
