Your Ultimate Goal

So everyone on here lifts/trains for all slightly different reasons. Aside from looking/feeling good(or enjoying the soreness of the pump) why do you do what you do?

I caught the bug about 6 years ago when I got tired of being a 200+ pound fat ass.

Fast forward 4 years later after tons of training and nutritional trial and error I learned that to have abs I needed to get to 150 and after I got a great six pack a female physique competitor encouraged me to do a Mens Physique competition. I went on stage and came in 1st True Novice and 2nd overall. I fell in love with the idea of pushing yourself to be the pinnacle of what your body can attain in terms of muscularity and leanness.

Finally, I've decided to try to use PHs to push my body over that genetic potential cause I really want to do a big show and at least place. Although I will be hugely disappointed with any but 1st. It's just the kind of guy I am. End goal is to get on stage in Columbus and do the amateur Mens Physique at the Arnold Classic. To even have the man (Arnold) on the stage at the time would be an amazing moment to have.

PS if you stuck all that out and read to here, thanks!

Anyways, that's my story, what's yours?

I originally started working out just to pack on a little muscle on my twig person frame. It eventually started to grow into an interest in bodybuilding, and now I'm working to become a huge motherf*cker before I step on stage for the first time.

Honestly it really just depends on how much mass I can pack on in the near future. I would really like to get to 240 minimum before I even consider cutting down. I usually maintain 10-15% body fat year round so hopefully I wouldn't lose too much weight when cutting!

I lost a lot of muscle during show prep sadly so I'm thinking of mega dosing HMB this time around.

That could be a good idea! It would be interesting to see some real world results with HMB.

I did a very aggressive 8 week cut before heading to The Arnold this year, not to compete but to walk around lean, and I dosed HMB at around 5 grams a day and didn't lose much if any muscle at at 750 calories deficit.

I started working out to add some muscle and prevent further injury. I was about 120 lbs when I graduated high school and after back surgery dropped to 90-100 (a blood clot and spending 2 months in the hospital had a lot to do with that). After I got cleared I began to workout to add some muscle and strengthen my back/core. Since then, I've fluctuated between 170-190 depending on life. I'd like to stay at about 190-200 but be 10-12% BF

That's a good place to be at to slay the ladies my friend.

I only ever got jacked after I married, it's like I'm living in reverse lol

How has your back been holding up post surgery with squats and dead lifts?

I was a fat kid at the beginning of high school. 215 in the 8th grade and upper 20's BF %. I didnt like being so fat so i started lifting. Broke the 215 pound weightlifting records for squat and deadlift in my school. Couldnt get the results i wanted then i started wrestling and dropped 40 pounds in one wrestling season. Ever since then ive been trying to be as strong and as athletic as possible. After that wrestling season i never got above 200 pounds again. Until 8 months ago. Now im 225 and almost as lean as ive ever been. And way stronger than ive ever been

Great work dude. I'd love to hit a lean 200 but I'm short so who knows if that'll ever happen lol

I've deadlifted once and felt hawkward so haven't done them. Need a gym buddy to check form. I squat pretty light compared to most guys because I have a mental barrier. Usually between 135-185 but rarely have back pain from squatting. If I go too heavy on BEnt over rows I'll have some soreness that lasts a few days.

if you get a hex/trap bar at your gym you can do a much back friendlier dead lift with it. You can always video tape your form and post it for critique.

I used to do exclusively trap bar deads just for the comfort aspect of it. The strength carries over very well to conventional DL and easier on the body.

If i'm using a barbell I have to switch to sumo now. I used to pull 405 at 160 so I'm really pissed I had to drop off so much weight and completely change stance after an injury.

Ive thankfully never had an injury set me back on deads. Its always been my best lift so it would be upsetting if an injury set me back there

Oh wait I lied. We do have a trap bar I forgot about. I did it twice with that using 135 and worked up to 225 and it was pretty easy and felt light so I assumed I was doing it wrong hah. I've DL once with a regular bar and that was the awkward motion.

I've just done an ass ton of hyperextensions and weighted supermans for lower back lol

I went too heavy a few weeks after my show and a disc got herniated as the joints were still pretty dry and there wasn't much cushion in the spine. That was 2 years ago, hasn't been the same since. I can still pull 3 plates but I start to cat back once I go heavier than that. Kind of embarrassing.

TBH, I'm not too concerned about the numbers. I'd rather be able to lift 3 plates comfortably without injury then 4 plates and risk injury. I'm not trying to compete though and I'm more risk adverse regarding lifts than you're average bear.

Yeah I know it's an ego thing. Just really wanted to pull 500 and was on track to do so before I got sidelined.

First time I got the bug, was to go from skinny nobody to as big as possible. No idea what I was doing. Got some decent gains.
Got married, got kids, got fat, got unhappy, got a divorce, took a look in mirror and said this sucks I was about 290lbs of lard ass. Hit the gym with knowledge and a plan. Went from 290 and over 40% bf to
230 and about 20% over the next year or so. Been at it ever since. Now I am 250 and around 20% when leaned out decent.
Over the past 2 years heavy weights have took its toll on joints, now I am just maintaining and trying for more functional fitness.

Was a chubby kid and young adult. Turned to drugs that made me skinny, but ruined my life. Got clean and needed the outlet not only to fill my time and the void in recovery, but also to compensate for the body issues that led to that horrible lifestyle. I must say that I still suffer from the mental side of those insecurities, and it causes me to obsess over the lifting life. But at the end of the day I'm strong, I'm (mostly) healthy, and I'm more confident than ever. Aside from the visual physique goals, I seek mental peace with my body image. That is my ultimate goal.

lifted67 those recent before and afters are just a short period of time, they are not indicative of my total transformation from my youth, and then the skinny tweeked out mess after, into what I have today. I will try and get a total transformation put together.

But man, yours is fantastic. Great work brother!!

Great stuff here bro, I too know the struggle with having a ****ty relationship with food the iron therapy definitely helps.

We as lifters owe it to ourselves to ignore the body dysmorphia though. Lots of people would kill to have our physiques. It sucks always being your own biggest critic so I understand that too.

In the meantime you keep taking care of yourself, you're a good dude!
