Sean's Powerlifting Journey

And why not

I have this meet and one more before we move and it'll be unknown after that. Part of me wants that second meet to be at 242 just so I can hit the biggest weight that I can. I think 760 is the current 242 DT'd squat.

But, 750 at 220 would feel like a hell of an accomplishment. 735 is the number I want this time, but that's going to need perfect execution from now till meet day so who knows.

Deadlift Deload

Sumo, Paused-ish
345 vs Minibands x3x3

Conventional
345x3x3

SSB GM
172x4x8

KB BSS
24kg x3x8

For the sumo pause, I just set my hips into it as hard as I normally would so the bar would float an inch or so and held it for a second or two, then I just snapped it up. I liked it.

The paused sumos that you are describing is what i mean by "pop offs" in my log. I do them a lot on warmups and they really seem to cue my hip action well.

Screw bench deload.

Took advantage of being under my weight class a month out and had a burger with bacon, ham, pulled pork, baked beans & bbq sauce then sweet potato fries glazed with caramel and cinnamon with a frosting dip. I'm mind blown.
breezy11 Boston burger company, must go

Sounds good

Fatting up into a meet is awesome. If I were a few pounds under, I'd bloat up over by 5-8 pounds and then baby cut and have a nice rebound into fatty land.

I was able to eat up hard for my bench since I wasn't cutting since my back wasn't gonna let me PR anyway. I have had tons of life stress lately and zero appetite accordingly but still managed 7lbs of bloat in a week and it let me take a small bench PR. The amount of stress lately and with my back I am certain the only way that happened was being able to eat hard into the meet. It makes a difference.

The pre meet bloat is something that I never understood don't get me wrong I understand the need to get bodyweight and energy back up but to over do I would think it would change the way u lift a bit

Overdoing it, yes, think it's just more about catching back up to your pre-weighin weight. I'm not trying to get bloated and gain 10lbs, I just didn't want to worry about my weight fluctuation and eating at maintenance. It'll be a happy month long peak with one less thing to worry about. 217 now so even if I drift to 222 or something, then I can pee that out in an hour easy peasy.

This was more ment about people I know cutting to make weight then trying to get it back... where your at is about perfect I think just below

Done right, the depletion/replenishment process it's easy. A big bloat doesn't matter as much to a raw lifter since equipment doesn't come into play. For geared guys, thought it has to be replaced almost to the pound.

Excited to roll into next week.

We could agree thou u see a lot more fails at this then success

I've also seen a lot of geared guys go to far as well

Definitely. Cutting weight is just as much of an art as peaking. Thankfully, I have previous experience from MMA on how to do it more efficiently beyond crazy extremes. I try to keep sweat time to a minimum as well.

Paused Bench
(Starting at max legal, I moved my grip in one finger width each set, just trying to see what feels best. Still not sure)

Biceps/Abs

...I easily did more biceps than anything else today

I'm about 30# over what I should be and it definitely blows. Endurance is down, fatigue is up.

At 11% that isn't hard to do

Well then, I'll do this slowly. Even a solid 10-15 lbs would be good to me

I drank one too many 11% IPA's tonight.

If you do regular conditioning it doesn't have a real noticeable impact.

Back when I was gaining non stop with the strongman focus I didn't really have any issues with "Fitness" while doing basic tasks.

And I think at that time I put on 30+# in something like 8 months maybe?

Yeah, conditioning helps for sure. I just recently picked it back up and already can tell a difference.

If you're conditioned and mobile, you can get almost as fat as you want, within reason. Body composition and physical condition are not close to the same thing.

The first time I weighed 230, I felt a thousand times worse than I do now at 245.

Today was the greatest lower body day I've ever had in my life. I contemplated splitting my squat volume this week, squatting then pulling those reps after. I woke up thinking "nah, too fking early for wraps".

My pulls felt in tune and had the best confidence I've had at that weight. By the last pull, I felt I could have kept going so I thought I'd test out my hips to squat. 605 was buried. 650x2 for a double PR and was fast each rep, but parallel. New wraps, tied tighter than the 605. I meant to do 645 but I realized after that I loaded a crooked bar with a 5lb collar on one side and a crap wire one on the other. Whoops. Bar was loaded to 650 within 25 minutes and hit it at 30 minutes.

Thursday I'll work up to a second attempting on my squat and some heavy assistance.

Videos in a few

Big thanks to Lou & Herder for helping me with the peak/taper. Taking a bit from both of your all's words of wisdom.
