***Log L5/S1 - Slipped disc - Injury, Operation and Recovery Log

Saturday 14/11/15 - 4 days post op

Still having the leg pain today, it came on more yesterday after a couple of trips up and down the stairs, I have been icing it and on all my pain meds and have taken some diazepam which settled it down quite nicely.

Seems like it's such a waiting game ATM coz it's very early days.

Wish I was one of these people who wake up pain free and never have an

Absolutely! It's good for to have someone at pretty much the same stage as me and to share experiences and problems with and get other advice
 
I'm about to take my longest walk yet (gonna try for 20min, with some light hills). I'll let you know how it turns out. I kinda feel like I'm heading to the gym, head phones ready and all that.

Weird question, but how do you find going to the toilet, just been for first time in 4 days! Worried like mad you can reherniate when going.
 
Yeah I am just super careful, lower super slow and don't push crazy hard. If it doesn't want to come, don't hurt yourself forcing it. Miralax is a beautiful thing :)

How was the walk?
My pain as been on and off today, had a few hours of relief and now it's back ATM
 
The walk was good, just feeling it now. Took a lot out of me, so I'm kicking back and watching some football (American style). Was gonna have a few brews, but I'm gonna wait another week

Nerve pain never went.
I still get leg pain in thigh and calf.
My nerve was completely surrounded and compressed tho

Man.... That's awful. I don't have the nerve pain but just a ton of soreness. I woke up this morning and it was rough

I don't have a great deal of soreness just nerve pain.

Did you have nerve pain before? I assume you did

Yeah before surgery I did, haven't had any since then. However, I didn't have the nasty soreness that I do now. 6 of one half dozen of the other I guess. I don't remember if I asked, how did you hurt yours?

You lucky bugger.

Mine was over time lifting thing a and shovelling and sport, just wear and tear on my ligaments, they got weak and allows my disc to slip, then a month ago it finally ruptured so I got myself in for surgery ASAP. Yours a deadlift?

Yep.... Powerlifting. Love the sport, but unlikely I'll be deadlifting heavy again.
 
Monday 16/11/15 - 6 days post op

So feeling pretty good ATM, been for walk which was 4x longer than yesterday. Not as sore today and feeling like my nerve pain is getting under control! So fingers crossed I am going in the right direction

Great news! I feel like I'm going backwards. I hurt more today than I did yesterday. I'm glad you're moving in the right track though bro!
 
Nope not yet. I probably will next week, depending on the doc. I hope so man, I need to get moving. Going from 5-6 days a week in the gym to nothing, going crazy

I hadn't done as of Yest morning but I hadn't had a **** in 4 days then lol. I'll weigh myself now..

Ye the physio told me to tense up so the V bit near your groin tenses

Tuesday 17/11/15 - 7 days post op

Woken up a little bit sore today, did the most walking yesterday since the op so not surprised. Still feel good tho. Maybe just dial it back a bit today with the walking and get some ice on

Glad you're feeling good brother! I'm in an ambulance as we speak. Worst pain ever and my legs give out when I try to walk :(
 
Wednesday 18/11/15 - 8days post op

Woken up with some leg pain and throbbing today, started to have this towards end of yesterday after moving funny and getting sharp pain down leg. Hopefully nothing serious and will go down throughout the day

You might have overdone it a little bit. I'm still at the hospital, can't figure out what's. Causing my pain

I'm currently wide awake and have been for a few hours coz leg pain is bad. I too am hoping it's just inflamed after I twisted and got a sharp pain down leg.
 
Thursday 19/11/15 - 9 days post op

So I still have the leg pain after twisting the other day and having sharp leg pain.
This is worrying me as was pain free this day previous to twisting.

I've decided if still in pain come next week then I will be calling the surgeon.
 
Phoned surgeon today, he wants me to see him ASAP so have to go tomorrow.... So stressful this

Yeah, they said I must have pulled one of the muscles that was cut into, and the inflammation pushed on the nerve. The epidural really helped this time, and they put me on a long acting pain med as well

Aw glad things are getting better.
None of my muscles got cut, they just got moved aside
