Is 420 ng/dl a low test value for a 41 to male?

Just curious as to see what other T values men have around my age.

Don't get caught up in numbers. If you have a Test level that's above the minimum reference level, then find a good dr to try to find the underlying cause of your symptoms of you're having any.

The only real symptom I'm having is I feel overly tired sometimes when I've had plenty of rest, but I push on through it. I'm in the gym 5 days a week and still making gains. I agree numbers can get in the way and shouldn't be focused on, but I never dreamed my T would be on the lower end of the scale. How often should those levels be tested and would it be hard to regain those levels if someone took a SARM and actually got suppressed? Following a proper cycle and PCT schedule.

I had those levels when I was 30...and was not making visible gains in teh gym though I was getting stronger, was tired all the time, slept poorly, had terrible turn around time after having sex, limited sex drive etc.
Before assuming that being tired is a symptom of low test make sure to examine every other area in your life such as sleep hygiene in regards to lightrsand electronics before bed time etc. also stress levels.
honestly it sounds like 420 is probably just fine since unless there is a real pattern of symptoms.

Being tired is not a symptom of low T in itself. Drink some caffeine and don't chase numbers. You are 41, going to the gym 5 days a week, and making gains. Low T is not an issue for you.

That is good to hear! Im learning the numbers are just a range and it's definitely more based on how your body feels within that range! I'd like to have had a baseline back in my younger years just to see how it compares now.

I disagree. Fatigue, or low energy IS a symptom of low testosterone. Further, I think your testosterone levels are are little low for your age and activity level. IMO, if you feel there is a problem, there may be.
It's even more probable your levels are low if you are coming off of suppressive androgens (SARM). What is your PCT? Are you using clomid/nolvadex/arimidex or some OTC product? In addition I would try some further options to boost testosterone (better sleep, lower stress, taurine, ZMA, increased fats, particularly olive oil.
You might be experiencing symptoms of low T if you are tired all of the time, despite getting plenty of sleep, or if you are finding it harder to get motivated to hit the gym or exercise.

No, I have never ran a cycle. I am actually seeing a Doctor about my levels now. They are actually higher now, in the 580 range. She seems to think I don't have near enough free test, so she is working on changing that. I'm not sure I want to be on T from now on just yet, I'm not sure it will improve my quality of life that much right now. I'm still researching.

Ok, I read your question about being suppressed after taking SARMs as you had taken them. 580 sounds pretty good actually. What did you do to raise them if anything?

I started taking vitamin D, zinc, and she put me on .5mg of Anastrozle every 4 days. The levels actually increased before the Anastrozle, I'll be getting bloods again in a week or so. I'll know if it has increased my T anymore after that.

Sweet. So what were the levels before anastrozle? 580 just after the zinc and vitamin d? Is she an endocrinologist or a PCP?

Yes 580 before, she is a PCP that specializes in Hormone replacement, but not an Endo. She definitely seems to know what she's talking about thus far.

Thanks for answering my qs. 420 --> 580 just from adding zinc and Vitamin D is quite impressive, almost a 40% increase in testosterone.
How much vitamin D are you taking, and over what time period between tests?
Did you make any other changes in diet/exercise/lifestyle/supps during this time?

Honestly I can't think of anything different I had done. I totally agree it was a big jump, makes me question the first bloods. 5000 iu Vitamin D^3 and 50mg zinc. I do remember she said specifically D^3. You're more than welcome, I'm glad to help out as much as I can. So many have helped me on this forum.

I get my T checked very 6 months or so and it is always varying between 300 and 500. Many factors can affect it from sleep, stress, time of day, how hard you've been working out, to if you just saw a hot chick. Seriously on that last one.

Hi there. This thread really caught my eye since I've been in a very similar position to the OP.

I'm 49 and for the past 5 years my Total T has fallen from 580s to 425. Six months before the new year - I stopped drinking soy milk and started taking 2000 units of D3 per day and my T levels were 650 in December 2015.

Strangely- I didn't feel any different. Generally a bit tired, somewhat lacking libido, but still able to workout 4 x per week (I also work a ton of hours and have a stressful job).

Regardless - my doc friend thought that even though my T levels are normal, it may be "low" for me and that low T is not based on a number. He prescribed me Androgel recently which I started to take 3x per week and I have to admit I felt better. I stopped it after 2 weeks because I was concerned that it would suppress me for good. Started looking at SARMs but I don't want to mess with these as they are conflicting reports on benefits vs risks. I'm trying some natural test boosters and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm

Yeah, you are smarter than your doc friend. For him to blindly give you test for levels in the 600s is assinine. If he really wanted to help you, he'd tell you to see a specialist and find out what, if any, underlying causes there may be for your symptoms- even though "a bit tired and somewhat lacking libido" aren't really signs of anything other than being normal.

580 is ok but I'd optimally at that age which iam basically that age as well I'd be making sure I had 800 or above. My endo knows 800 is the lowest I'll tolerate if I'm going to be pinning myself once or twice a week. Pinning forever means I'd better be getting a lot out of it. Plus, honestly I feel super at 800 or higher. 800-1100 I feel awesome.

I agree with Ragnar. Fast forward from my last post above – and I ran a cycle of sarms – made some great gains – but my test level was severely suppressed for months - even after a Nolvadex PCT. my doc buddy prescribed me some hCG with som Androgel which I used for 4-5 weeks to get everything back on track and my test was 960 and free Test was 250. He wanted to keep me on it – effectively putting me on TRT – since all of my numbers across my blood work improved significantly. I didn't want to make that commitment so then I did another PCT – this time just running low-dose Clomid at 12.5 mg every day as well as Adex. I finished with a natural test score right after the last Clomid dose of 900 with a free test of 150. The point is – I felt significantly better and performed better on all fronts with my test level in the 900 range. In fact it was like night and day from when my test levels were in the 600s. Based on this, I actually have an appointment with an anti-aging Doc today as a matter of fact :) to go over all the blood work and see what the best protocol is for me to keep my test levels this high – which may be running some Clomid every now and then, or maybe I might just stick to cycling testosterone every couple of months and running a PCT. I need to get all the facts and weigh the options – but I tell you what brothers – life in the 900 testosterone club is mighty fine

If you are chasing numbers you are doing it wrong.
Agree, it's how you feel and how healthy you are that is so individualized. There is so much more to the endocrine system hormones than just testosterone and estradiol:

I also agree with kisaj. I was being much too general with just spitting out numbers to shoot for. It's very person/genetic specific. Some men feel great and are all good feeling wise and symptom at say 500 total testotestosterone, some men don't feel right unless they are up to
800 and some only feel ok up around 1100 or so. That is absolutely true. I shouldn't have been so general with you. I apologize.

Very true indeed. I'm just trying to get my head around going on TRT myself when my natty levels are around 600 – but I feel so much better when they were artificially pumped up to 900 or thousand. Incidentally – I had a call with the TRT doc – that said their protocol is to try to get men to the levels they were at when they were 18 to 20 years old. So based on this – I was pretty much offered a script for cypionate for that very purpose. Funny thing is – this is what my younger self in the 80s used to dream about :) – but now that I'm around 50 I'm proceeding with caution

Well heck if you truly feel better at 900 -1000 that's one definite sign. Still not complete but one huge sign for that level of assistance.

ragnar - D3 is Vitamin D (D3 is the specific type). Most D you buy will be D3. throneof - I had similar experience with D3. Got my Test from 425 to 660

Oh it just vitamin D gotcha. I take a multi vitamin every morning, a Centrum silver. For old men like me. 37. Anyway, I also have D 3. Is the Centrum enough or shouldI use both? My doc gets me to 1100 so I know that's already quite adequate but heck if I can get another 150-250 or so just from vitamin D, I'm all about it.

Get him to check your blood levels then go from there. I take 5000 iu's every other day and 10,000 the other days.

@Rangnar you need 3,000 IUs / day for about a. Moth or so then you can maintain with 2,000. The dosage in the multivitamin is too low. D3 is actually a hormone that regulates about a dozen body functions and is perhaps the most important vitamin to take. You will no doubt feel the difference after a few weeks.

Yes, vitamin D is very important. Make sure you get Vitamin D3 in the store. I dose 10,000 IU per day to get mine into the good range. Here is a graph of where I was before supplementing:

Just as a follow up to the OP - I would get labs done again and if you are low 400s I would not hesitate. As for me, my new labs just came back and I am 437 Total T which is low for me. I'm 50 and feel fine but as I stated I feel much much better at higher T ,levels and I suspect so will you.

Hey bros, and OP - I made the switch after the labs showed I was in the low 400s. I started HCG and Androgel and had to tweak a few things and now I am over 1000 with free T near the top of normal. I also take DHEA and B12 since both of those were low normal. I haven't felt this good in 15 years. Seriously. I could never go back to low normal Testosterone.

That's honestly a ridiculous statement to make. Fatigue IS a symptom of low test. In fact, it's one of the main symptoms.
420 ng/dl is on the lower side of testosterone levels, and incidentally is below the average levels of 75-84 year old males in the Vermeleun 1996 study:
http://elitemensguide.com/testosterone-levels-by-age/

You can make gains in the gym with low testosterone. I have hypogonadism and I am able to make gains, it's much more complicated than making gains = test levels OK.

T levels in the lower 400s at age 40 is definitely something to look at. He's used exogenous androgens/SARMS which could also be suppressing his levels below what they should be naturally.

I tell you what brothers, I was low 400's natty at 49 y/o and could barely keep my eyes open in the afternoon. Since TRT, and top end of both Total and Free Test I have more energy than I know what to do with. Even cognitive skills come easier. My low t symptoms included being tired, achy, low libido, and mild depression. All gone. TRT was life changing for me.

Considerably higher than mine, 219ng/dl....

No wonder I've been struggling to make gains, I'm 47, 225lb and about 20% bf...lifts are ok but not amazing, I can pause bench 225 for a couple of reps and deadlift 405.
