The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Hmmm... Would scoop the pumpkin first personally.

I know you've had and think it's just ok but still want to try ha.

The Graham Cracker Swirl from my offering was nothing to rave over, but again may have been a bad pint.

I basically had NO Swirl

Romolo's Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel

Overall this was a good pint, but would be great if the base was a bit better. While the Peanut Butter flavor was not something as good as what Graeters (Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Buckeye Blitz) or Ben & Jerry's has to offer (PB cookie Core, Peanut Butter Cup, PB World) it was still above average. The key aspect were the copious amounts of chocolate and pretzel mix-ins. With nearly every single bite you get a sweet and salty pretzel compliment, or a rich chocolate piece. Combining chocolate, peanut butter, and pretzels is an incredible mixture of flavors, and Romolo's did a great job with their peanut butter pretzel offering.

Not out yet..
Agree with Boone and Driven here.
There was virtually no swirl and the pumpkin was meh.
About as bad as Graeters. i rank them towards the bottom

but hey.. different strokes some people enjoy it

Limited options up here in Canada but this was another winner.

Pb base is actually really flavorful, swirl is everywhere. (Chocolate and pb) and a very generous amount of chunks and cup pieces. At $4 for a half gallon, these Breyers flavors are legit

No, he meant there are not many options, it is not a limited edition. There are quite a few Breyers flavours here too.

Still much better things to get in Canada
Poutine for example :)
You already have the cream of the crop selections at your place from the states.

Just cracked into Almond Butter Chocolate Chunk From Gelato Fiasco.
Holy moley, this is pure gold.

Regret not getting that one, heard it's better than S'mores

Yep, that's been my go to brand here as they have the best/most mix ins.

Easily if you love almond butter. bascailly a creamy almond butter in gelato form with massive chunks of chocolate .
Espresso Chip review coming soon too. Coffee Paradise, much stronger than Cafe Au Lait (Base wise) but no sugary swirl or beignets. Chocolate chips instead which was a good 1-2 combo.

Want that Almond Butter!!! Ah well, just did another ICS order and I contacted Choc Shoppe and they in turn got ICS to list Espresso Oreo on the site :)

So I am getting that and a few others YAY!!!!! I may also try a couple of Wegmans premium pints soon too.

Nutter Batter, S'mores, and Banana Peel-N from Wegmans
Thank me later.

Espresso Chip from GF is a much denser coffee flavor than the very light/blonde roast from NO. Think of a medium/dark roast but mixed with chocolate (The chips) thats basically what you will get. NO is much sweeter due to the sugary swirl and beignets donuts.

No access to the Espresso chip from GF atm, too expensive to order direct from them again lol.

I have NO Café Au Lait in my freezer so that will happen sometime soon, plus I like sweet! My experience with NO so far has been mixed, I really like their bases. Mardi Gras base was especially good, but lack of mix-ins was a disappointment. I got a lot of mix-ins in Mississipi Debris but it was all chocolate & marshmallows, only 2 malt balls, wtf!! It was more like a rocky road..

My first choices from Wegmans were going to be the Smores & Nutter Batter, but also thinking of Rum Raisan & Crème Brulee... You try those?

Get the banana Peel N
Legit Best banana base you will have with huge chunks of peanut butter cups and marshmallow swirls.

I was skeptical of this flavour based on the name alone, but the pic doesn't lie lol!

I also scooped Choc Shoppe Mac Fudge the other day. Tons of fudge pieces that were amazing. The soft fudge swirl was especially good. The vanilla base was good but very plain. I assumed they went with a very plain base so the fudge stands out more, but I still felt like it was a bit of a negative. I'd probably say A-.
It was not so amazing that i must have it again, going to try some other Choc Shoppe flavours instead...

Gelato Fiasco Espresso Chip Gelato

For those who enjoy a stronger brewed coffee this is right up your alley. If you like chocolate guess what you get the best of both worlds. If you prefer a lighter coffee seek out Brewed to Matter or Cafe Au Lait & Beignets. I would also consider Haagen Dazs Tiramisu as a finer coffee base if you are not into a darker roast/bold tasting coffee. Overall I have 0 complaints with this. As a coffee and chocolate fan it satisfied both aspects in one pint offering. An incredible coffee base from fresh beans in Maine, and massive chocolate mix-ins scattered throughout the pint with Ghiradelli flavoring.

I saw this in MI before and passed for Blueberry and Dark Choco caramel.
How would you compare this to Choc Shoppe Espresso Oreo (have that on order)?

This has chocolate chips not oreo's (CS)
You can read my review on the CS which will help you out:

Invalid Link Removed

This is a gelato (different texture/creaminess) to a dense ice cream (Chocolate Shoppe)
CS lighter in base (blondie/light road)
GF is more bold/darker roast.

that why i write the reviews so you can read them and pick up that information :)

I read them both and Yes I know that they are not identical.
But why compare GF to BnJ and NO then if those are not gelatos.

Question was which do you like better?

You pick MTS RVC over KLP as your fav of Marc's flavourings when they are vastly diff, just sayin ;)

Ok? So your asking for what is my favorite protein powder off a protein line when you were trying to compare 2 Coffee flavors

Your making 0 sense
Comparing a RV to a KL is not comparing 2 different coffee ice creams

All 3 are totally different coffee ice creams what I like won't be what you like as everyone has different taste buds that's why I am detailed in my description so you may know what to expect

Fair enough, if i get a chance to try Espresso chip I'll find out for myself.

Your right I may not like what you like so better off not reading your reviews then, correct?

No actually if you read them it answers your question which I was trying to show you from my writing and links to my reviews

That's why I detail them so much so you know what to expect or how you would compare them to others out there

that's why I specified how the base is on all 3 coffee ice creams (light , blonde, bold, dark) and how the mix ins compliment them

This way if it were to strike your interest you would know what is best for you

That's why my reviews are not 2-3 like bread reviews would not really help someone making a purchase

I know bob hates blue bell, but their pumpkin praline was the best pumpkin ice cream to date imo based on the flavor and texture of the swirls. I've had turkey hill and many others... But none compared

Alright fair, maybe because I'm not a coffee drinker I don't appreciate the nuances between different roasts.

With that said, GF and Choc Shoppe are both espresso flavours. Granted one is a gelato and one is a ice cream, one has chips and one has cookies.
I wouldn't think that would preclude you from making a comparison. But hey nbd.

I have never had Blue Bell we dont have it here.

If you are not a coffee drinker GNO and don't like coffee why are you investing in coffee flavors? Plenty of other options to consider out there and good ice creams that may not be coffee based. I love coffee thats why i grab them

Bob, when blue bell returns to shelves I will personally send you the pumpkin praline ( if I can get it- it sells out so fast)

I finally pulled the trigger on this ice cream...

I love butter tarts and was skeptical whether a store brand would live up to my expectations. The reviews I read online were all favourable and indicated there were a lot of mix-ins as the company claims in their series of "Loads of..." Ice creams. The main deterrent has always been the larger tub size (1.65L). With mkretz in town for a cheat it was Game On!
We made our own sundaes with caramel/butterscotch sauce, mini turtles candies (chocolate covered caramel/pecan clusters) and whip cream.
Invalid Link Removed

I was sure to taste the ice cream on it's own to give it a fair review without the extras we added. The description on the tub is...
Yummy butter tart flavoured ripple ice cream, positively packed with butter tart pieces and praline pecans.

The base is good but nothing you would buy on it's own. However, the mix-ins are plentiful as advertised. The butter tart pieces were so good. For a butter tart lover such as myself it was an A. Since I haven't seen any other company attempt such a flavour I have to give it up to PC. I'm going to give their seasonal ice cream, pumpkin pie, a try now that it's out again.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Blue Bell ice cream is set to be back on store shelves in just days. The company is trying to come back after a deadly Listeria outbreak. Blue Bell fans are waiting for the ice cream to return.

First B&J scoop shop visit. Got the candy bar pie- one of the best I've had from them. Was a pretty run down store... Wasn't impressed with much other than the ice cream. Sorta run down

New Orleans Ice Cream Company Praline Crunch

Invalid Link Removed

Invalid Link Removed

Overall this was different from what I expected reading just the label. Does it top the copious thick caramel swirl loaded in Haagen Dazs Pralines and cream? I would say HD gets a slight edge due the that swirl factor, but the pecans in this pint were superior in flavor with a sugary coating and caramel aftertaste. The base provides elements of nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar on top of a strong caramel flavoring. I was skeptical since nuts are one of my least favorite mix-ins, but with how well the base and mix-ins complimented each other it shocked me. New Orleans takes a basic combination and enhances the flavoring by a large margin. While this may be something you may pass when seeing the amount of selections offered off the New Orleans line, I would highly suggest giving this a scoop.

Damn you!!

I'm scooping a low cal local brand tomorrow night to see if it's decent as a primer for Graeter's Buckeye for the long weekend.

Ninette's Gingerbread Crunch

Had the vanilla last week and it was AWESOME. Its one of the best plain vanilla's I've ever had, "real" ice creams included. The texture/creaminess of such a low cal ice cream is really impressive in these. Lemon pound cake is my next to try. GF said that's the best, and I've heard the chocolate is amazing as well. So far all the flavors I've heard about have been hits.

I would def get the lemon if you have a choice. If for no other reason than its unique.

I first saw them at Whole Foods (Mississauga & Oakville), but I bought it at Fortinos which is the equivalent of Loblaws or Real Candian Superstore in the TO area.

Not a cheap pint though so my hopes are high.

i hate lemon stuff in general, i had a few bites of the NO Lemon Cake and gave it to my grandma, just not my thing.
i asked for chocolate mocha chip or birthday cake.

Lemon Oreos are delicious (the standard lemon gold oreos, not the limited edition chocolate/lemon ones)

Interesting... dont think I would have tried them but now I'm curious
