I work at a smaller nutrition store and a lot of the customers that come in tell us how we're more knowledgeable then GNC and have better product. And a lot cheaper lol

Oh no, the store that has to pay for a brick and mortar location as well as warehousing and distribution is more expensive than online stores that don't have to pay for storefront space and use colo warehousing or forwarding distribution through their wholesaler!

How shocking and horrible of them! They're so greedy, what with their astoundingly high 8.6% profit margins, literal scum of the earth!

While I know its poor business ethics but I want to play devils advocate here.

If x company spikes a product but it is constantly on bogo, since I know its spiked I could double my scoops and still save money while getting the same protein amount (but obviously while using more protein powder). Some spiked proteins would only need an extra half scoop to make up the shortfall yet the price alone could easily justify that.

Also, a LOT of companies use deceitful tactics or other market manipulation techniques (or buy parts at slave rate prices). Many massive supermarkets undercut small suppliers and force them to lower prices far below what they can live off. Not buying from a company with poor business ethics could mean you don't buy from anyone ever


Is this a feasible solution? ;)
 
Customer complains about creatine and amino acids "spiking" their protein tub; posts outrage on forum; buys "premium" protein; buys many tubs of another product containing glutamine and creatine; Internet laughs

Their products are crap and overpriced compared to all other chains. Try shopping at Vitamin Shoppe, huge difference. GNC brand products are crap, everyone knows this.

And GNC owns Muscle Milk, the most horrible protein powder around which also happened to give me massive gut pain for days after using it once. Yeah I'd say they are pretty horrible.

I shop at physical storefronts, don't give me this "brick and mortar / warehousing" nonsense.

I believe ON is good quality. The poster was likely just talking about taste. Seems like half the people in here are more worried about taste and price versus honesty and quality.

Honestly what really really gets me about 80% of the supplement companies in the bodybuilding industry are the straight out lies in their marketing, aimed at taking advantage of noobs and the casual lifter. "400% MORE ANABOLIC VERSION OF OUR LEAN MASS PROMOTING SKIN BURSTING PUMP INDUCING NONSENSE"
It's all lies.

I work at a brick and mortar store that pays for a warehouse and distribution and a website just like GNC and we're way cheaper.

I wasn't talking about taste. I was talking about ON amino spiking their protein so you're getting less protein then what they're telling you.

I think as a starting point, I might start up a blog listing all the companies that do this, alongside copies of lab reports. Good for the consumer and a good start to get action on the companies too. The more info out there, the better for stopping this kind of practice.

ON is owned by a dairy company and uses the same protein ingredients that they sell to half the industry in their protein products
 
There's also a group of supplement companies who hire "undercover reps" to go bad mouthing their competition and do whatever it takes to throw their competition under the bus, without bringing attention to themselves. These people need to be called out too.

Not quite, I'm "whining" about the bodybuilding supplement industry being the shadiest bunch of liars and criminals around, and would like to do whatever's in my power to fix it / improve the situation. I'm annoyed beyond belief at the marketing behind it, the shady tactics, lack of quality, everything to be honest. It needs far tighter regulation and the only way that will happen is by grass roots movements, petitioning local politicians to make a change; whatever possible. Petitions work. Consumers don't have to put up with all this nonsense and bull$hit in this industry.

My initial post was about my pain, sure, but this thread is quite longer than a single post.

As far as a huge amount of regulation the laws are all in place as is. They simply need to be enforced. There are companies that are playing by the rules. If people think that BS is not rampant in almost all industries they would be mistaken.

Based on my 2 minute snap judgement, you havent quite surpassed the gnc high water mark of supplement knowledge.

That's when I personally started and found that my source was wrong on the sources and I also admitted I was wrong. There's a detox review because we sell more then sports nutrition (Protein, Pre workout etc.) we also sell multi vitamins, detox, heart liver and eye health.

It's kind of hard to look at our entire facebook page when you're sipping on your GNC brand protein guy

If anybody at your store thinks there is any validity to detox products whatsoever, they aren't knowledgable.

I don't use any protein product with regularity, I enjoy cooking and I enjoy food.

I'm not being a dick, I have personal experience with slander/libel issues as a result of true statements I've made on forums and elsewhete about multiple brands.

I've got a good lawyer, some other people who decided to crusade against the industry havent been so lucky.
 
The same kind of *******s that spike their products with illegal ingredents are the same type that will tie you up in court for talking about it.

If I talk about it, it would only be after having multiple trusted labs test their product, and will be shared with the approval of my lawyer(s).

If I go that route, guaranteed my results will be going to the FDA / Attorney General before going online.

Ill tell yall right now...the cost id have to pay to make and being a 80% whey protein by vol (which is high by todays standards) would end up costing the consumer like $40-50 for 2 lbs. I dnt know how people think they can get 5lbs or quality whey for $55. Now most of these proteins are only 65% by vol claim but im not shocked spiking is going on. Its millions 2 b made and people gonna make it

Why be dishonest about it though? Why lie on labels? This is against the law.

Sell cheap product with correct labels for those who can't afford higher quality, but don't lie about it and trick consumers.... Not you personally, but just saying in general.

Yes De__eB is secretly CEO of the muscle milk company.

If you think its as simple as slating a company online and thinking they wont retaliate with all the money they have, your best bet is to see a bankruptcy lawyer as well.

Its for your safety hes speaking out, but by all means. Best look into chain of custody and remove posts that seek intent of causing deflamation before you proceed.

Its not a bad idea in theory - but reality is ruthless and people wont just sit tight while you slander them. Expect them to fight back - even if you're right, theyd counter sue or whatever just to keep you in court and drain all your money

Yeah i know bc all that will happen is they get a letter. What someone w some $$$ should do is start a non-profit that purchases random products and have them tested. Not 4 nitrogen but actually random protein fractions. Then if they off by over 10% immediately pull 10 more random orders/samples. And test them....i dnt have the money 2 start that consumer group. Also consumers would never donate to the cause. Some would but not enough.

Youd need an airtight case or a very good lawyer or better yet both to take them down. A slip up with how samples are handled could see it going very wrong lol

im either not understanding your post at all, or its entirely inaccurate. the way i read that after my nap was that a good quality whey concentrate would cost over 20 dollars per pound which is an insane rip off.
