Turff49 Quest for Success

130# DB rows. Sheesh...

I know! I gotta step my game up with you doing 190lb Meadows...

With the exception of one set of bb rows, I really didn't do much prior to that PR. You had done multi-reps. lol

I have no doubt you could surpass that 190.

Thanks for the encouragement but 190 is too beastly for me. When I did 150 that **** was heavy for one arm. Those strong Meadows will definitely help that bench man! Be excited, huge bench pr's coming your way man!

Those 130's were when you weren't feeling strong??!! Wow! Beast!!

Good ole Leg day!
I think it's been 2 weeks since I hit back so it was a love hate relationship with the weights this morning.

Hack squat
150 x 20 - good warm up!
240 x 12
330 x 10
420 x 10
510 x 10
600 x 8
I stopped there as I have to be out in the field again today...

Standing DB curls while waiting for leg press
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10

Leg press
270 x 10
360 x 10
450 x 10
540 x 10
630 x 10
720 x 10
810 x 8

Leg extensions
105 x 20
135 x 10
150 x 10
165 x 10
180 x 10
195 x 10

Seated leg curls
105 x 15
120 x 12
135 x 10
150 x 10
165 x 10

Out of time. Had to be at work in 30 minutes...

I saw "good ole back day", and I was like, "again? ****!?"

Strong leg work man. lol

I was excited to be back on my regular workout schedule...lol. Traveling just screws me up if I'm in a different town each day!

Yeah, my hacks I really pushed as I was trying to beat another guy to the leg press... Rest were probably in the 30-45 second range on hacks and then on from 450 up on leg press they were in the one minute range.

Damn you're a beast! ;) I've been out of it for a few days dealing with multiple family members in different hospitals ... seems like everyone got hurt at the same time. Haven't trained in 4 days or slept that much .... coming back here and reading this makes me feel like a wimp .... gonna try and hit the weights tonight and get back in the swing of things. I wasn't one of the ones in the hospital but I did hurt myself also .... seems like we Irish all like to damage ourselves at once ;) I was working on my truck, nut broke and I slammed my right hand into the firewall and cut my index finger across the knuckle closest to the hand ...deep. Needed stitches but no health insurance at the moment so its splinted and taped up .... gonna have to go light on the pulling movements for a few weeks .... no 190lb Meadows for me

Thanks TK. So sorry to hear about the string of family bad luck.
I cut my index finger a few years ago trying to get a header bolt loose. I didn't get stitches either, cleaned it, used a small piece of plastic, a paper towel and duck tape... It healed but left a funky scar on the finger. Guys are suppose to have scars, I keep telling myself that anyway...lol

What a day! Worked all day with the heat index being anywhere between 101-110 from about noon on. Got home this evening and decided I needed to hit chest. Heat index here at home was 101 while working out, yep, I'm an idiot...lol
Good workout non the less:

Incline barbell bench press
135 x 20
185 x 15
205 x 10
225 x 10
255 x 5
275 x 1 failed the 2nd rep, forgot to breath hahaha

Incline Hex press straight into incline flyes
50 x 10 / 50 x 10
50 x 10 / 50 x 10
60 x 10 / 60 x 8
60 x 10 hex
60 x 10 flyes
Had to take a small break in between on that last set, that's why on separate lines.

Ok, feeling pretty burned out and drenched.

Flat bench press
135 x 28
Just couldn't knock out any more. And wasn't going to even try another set. I was toast...lol

Doing hex press before flyes seems harder than doing flyes and then hex.

Was happy with my incline benching though considering I'd been in the heat from 0800-1640 working. I think Stimul8 saved me today!!

Addict, maybe. Idiot, no.

I need to find time for the hex-to-fly tomorrow.

Nice inclines. I hear ya on the scars thing .... I couldn't care less about having a scar so no worries. Just can't wait for it to heal so I can get back to heavy deadlifts and rows etc.... Worked out last night and had little issue with pressing movements ... forced into a false grip bit still worked on inclines. Pulling movements don't work at the moment .... thinking of buying some straps to use until this heals .... may help with grip on the damaged hand. Never been a fan of lifting straps but I may break down and go that route for now.

Yeah, I think you will enjoy them. Good accessory exercise for the chest. Great finisher to burn the chest out. I prefer inclines doing them but I know a lot of guys do the flats.

Nothing wrong with straps TK. Allows you to focus more on the muscle you are trying to work instead of being limited by grip. As I've gotten older my grip has gotten weaker. And when you have a hand injury they can be invaluable!

Beast, yes, idiot, NO! 81 and humid here that made my glad I lifted early this morning. Nice freaking inclines! SMHS.

Nothing wrong with straps at all. I am anti-straps for deadlifts, but if you're working on some other muscle grouping there's no need to let grip be a limiting factor.

Yeah, wish I could do early morning outside here but the humidity is higher in the am and the Mosquitos would carry me off...lol
Hey, your shirt went out today by UPS. Should be there in a couple days!

No doubt on the humidity and mosquitoes. Here in Texas they will carry you off in a heart beat. I have been lifting in the garage lately and we have gotten into the feels like 95 range so far but not the 101 just yet. Still plenty hot out but something to be said for working hard in the heat. Sometimes it can crush you but sometimes it makes you feel animalistic too! I love it when it is the second one! You get out there crushing it and dripping sweat and just can't seem to find the quit button. The mentality in that instance is quite simply... "ONE MORE SET!" With every set I finish in that instance my mind just says "You've got at least ONE MORE SET IN YOU!!!!" I think sometimes when you put yourself to the fire, doing something exhaustive that you have to force yourself to do in spite of all sensible thought processes makes you more resilient from the jump. You already know it is going to suck, and since you have to do it anyway you put your big boy pants on and start off knowing you have to suck it up. Those can turn into some amazing workouts where your will and mindset can take you into a new area. That is when I love it!

Humidity in the garage after work today, almost had me puking.. i know its going to get hotter..i better get used to it.

Kleen, brother, I need a PWO that makes me feel like you do!

Well currently I am using Body Sport's Mad Dog pre-workout. I really like it for the long staying power, smooth and steady energy, and great focus. In the evening I use about half a scoop and in the afternoon or AM I can use a full scoop. A full scoop is just about perfect for me since I am not a stim junkie. However it has enough kick a stim junkie would be happy with 1-1.5 scoops. Definitely a solid product.

I can't promise it gives the same mindset. Judging from my self inflicted over use injuries that state of mind may just be part of me that simply gets intensified by the pre workouts. Either way I definitely recommend Mad Dog to anyone looking to try something new that doesn't contain creatine.

Will try and catch up later tonight with everyone's logs. Been busy with work(who isn't right!).

Did just get in one of the best workouts ever a few minutes ago.

Started with arms, nothing special here...

EZ curl rotate every other set wide grip narrow grip
75 x 10 w
75 x 10 n
95 x 10 w
95 x 10 n
115 x 6 w
115 x 9 n

Incline Barbell bench press pause reps(3 second pause each rep)
135 x 10
135 x 10
185 x 10
185 x 10
205 x 10
225 x 5
225 x 5
225 x 5
205 x 5 5 second pause
205 x 5 5 second pause
185 x 10 wide grip 3 second pause
135 x 10 wide grip 5 second pause
135 x 10 wide grip 5 second pause

Never really did pause reps with the pause being 3 and 5 seconds. Definitely something I'm going to incorporate.
Wide grip pause reps are insane. Think I felt every muscle fiber in my chest.
Did this workout outside here at the house heat index was just 103...lol

Freak heavy curls! 101 heat index by itself would put me in the hospital!!

Heat index today between 110-115 expected. This is June not August. Summer is going to suck...

On the road all day. Got home and just finished an unusual workout. Inspired by Thomas.

Just 2 exercises:
One Arm BB Rows
Meadows Rows

These were done by alternating exercises

45 x 10 L/R 1arms
45 x 10 L/R Meadows
70 x 10 L/R 1arms
70 x 10 L/R Meadows
90 x 10 L/R 1arms
90 x 10 L/R Meadows
115 x 10 L/R 1arms
115 x 10 L/R Meadows
125 x 10 L/R 1arms
125 x 10 L/R Meadows
135 x 10 L/R 1arms
135 x 10 L/R Meadows
145 x 10 L/R 1arms
145 x 10 L/R Meadows
155 x 8 L/R 1arms
155 x 8 L/R Meadows
165 x 8 L/R 1arms
165 x 8 L/R Meadows
175 x 5 L/R 1arms
175 x 6 L/R Meadows

I'm spent. And not sure I will attempt this again for a long time. I wanted to hit 185 but couldn't. The heat humidity didn't seem to really bother me today other than just being dripping wet. 20(40 if we count each arm as a set) sets kicked my butt though!
I'll catch up on logs after I get some fooooood in me!

Lol. You're insane man. I don't know how I inspired it, but you certainly made a threshold that is not easily reachable. That volume and weight... Wow.

You're friggin' 190 is what inspired me!! lol

Damn ! That much volume and in the heat and humidity .... you're a beast!

Killer volume! Agree with these guys!

Thanks guys. I truly was in a zone that's for sure. Now I'm feeling the aftermath. Today became an unscheduled rest day(still gotta go to work though). Will have to hit legs tomorrow along with chest.

Decided to make today Legs and Shoulders since I did bench twice this week. It was a good change of pace sort of workout. Not as much volume on everything but good semi-heavy session.

Looks like enough volume to me.

Have fun at the movie!

Happy Father's Day!

You too Thomas - Have a Happy Fathers Day!!

Killer Fathers Day session!!

Thanks Mark! And same to you!

Damn fine looking leg session.. how was the movie... Happy Father's day to all my brothers in iron!

Never made it to the movies. Chilled out in the pool and then was on the phone for over an hour with the boy. Really miss him so it's great to talk to him when he calls. Great day over all! Hope yours went great too!
