5-htp overdose...

Careful with this stuff fellas and ladies. I've taken 5-htp in the past with no ill effects. However, two nights ago, that all changed lol.
I had the bright idea that doubling my dose (200 mg, instead of 100) would be a great way to get the perfect amount of serotonin flowing. At first I felt drowsy and relaxed, but about 1 hour after I dosed, I started getting the chills BAD. I was able to fall asleep though. About one hour after I fell asleep, I woke up and felt nauseous. I stumbled to the bathroom with an intense head fog and stomach pain. I nearly threw up and had diarrhea. I was sweating profusely, and I knew immediately the 5-htp had induced a panic attack.
More is not always better. I'm not sure now if I ever wanna take this stuff again. Really freaked me out

Really from 200mg? 200mg is hardly a big dose of 5-HTP. Plus its a rate limiting conversion so its not going to all convert over to serotonin. Are you using any SSRI's?

Sounds horrible but i really doubt it wad due to 5-HTP . Maybe its something other things in it???what do we know

5htp at 200mg is roughly 1/100th-1/1000th the dose needed to induce serotonin syndrome. You either had an interaction with a medication you're taking, have an unknown neurological condition, or simply had those symptoms coincidentally

Glad u responded. I'm in PCT and am taking the following: pharma grade clomid @ 100; l-tyro @ 900 mg twice per day; viron @ 1 ED; DAA @ 300 mg ED; reduce xt @ 3 caps per day; optizinc @ 3 caps per day; and until a few nights ago 5-htp @ 100 mg every night.

Clomid is the only rx.

No neurological history, and hopefully nothing afoot.

I did have some suspect Indian food that night though :lmao:

Any recent use of a MAO inhibitor? Like within 2 weeks

I take 100mg every night. I tend to find it makes me relatively sleepy after about 15-20mins but then I dunno I kind of "sharpen up" a bit. I tend to listen to the radio before I go to sleep so I think I may start taking it once I switch the radio off

I'm confused, because I thought everyone on the interwebz was a doctor?. Have I been misled?
