The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

GNO

Well-known member
It seems there are many ice cream fiends on AM and there is talk about ice creams on several threads so I figured let's consolidate it in one thread for all things ice cream.

The Solution introduced me to premium ice cream (Graeter's and Jeni's) and I have become an ice cream fiend. I rarely bought a tub of ice cream and now have 7 pints in my freezer.

I'll kick it off with a review of Ben & Jerry's Peanut Buttah Fudge Core...

I really enjoyed the blend of chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. Getting both together in one spoonful with a mini peanut butter cup was great. But, by far the best part of the pint is the decadent fudge core. It was a pretty thick strip but still left me wanting more.
My only complaint is that were too few peanut butter cups contrary to the picture from the website above which were the mini mini type. I maybe got 8 cups in total which was a fail since I'm big on mix-ins.

Final Grade: B-

Ben & Jerry's milk & cookies is my go to.
Go to Walmart get the 'brokie'(chocolate chip cookie cooked on top of a brownie) from their pastry area, heat that sum b!tch up & enjoy regret for the rest of the night. ??

I definitely agree with your grade for Graeter's buckeye state, thought it would be a sure A but not their best. I would still buy it I didn't see it in MI last week.

I have a few on my hit list, namely B&J Boston Creme...

That is not buckeye state
do you need new glasses?

Dont waste your time on B&J if you can.. Boston Creme is nothing to rave over.
My bad, you had the Jeni's buckeye right below. On my mobile ...

Had ben and jerrys low fat coffee frozen yogurt last night. Killed a pint then made a CPBC shake to top it off

I've never had B&J froyo but I wonder if it's worth the price vs store brands or froyo take out shops.

I'm buying up New Orleans ice cream stuff. Saw it at a local joint.. On the to try list;

Banana fosters
Cream cheese
Praline crunch

The company looks relatively new. Wife tried their cafe beignets one last night and said it was absolutely delicious.

Idk. It was three bucks for the pint at a local spot. Nice thing about it was i didnt have to cheat to enjoy it. I love coffee ice cream and thier froyo tasted very comprable.

Watch out! I hear a lot don't meet label claims.

Just google it is not even ice cream its fake Some of the label claims were 50-60% higher than what is stated on the tub (150 kcals) few lawsuits to be had.

Oh I an well aware

And any "ice cream" with ingredient #1 as water is lying to itself

Not an ice cream fan, but saw this today on theimpulsivebuy. Anyways, looks interesting. Probably low quality, but I'm curious on how it tastes. I can tolerate ice cream sandwiches. I have to go to Walmart in the next week or so I'll have to take a look.

Probably better than B&J's Cotton Candy which was god awful
Would not buy a generic ice cream sandwich though.

Coolhous Cookies are a MUST if you want an ice cream sandwich:

I'm pretty sure my WalMart has them, but 12 is a lot to commit to for a store brand which is likely mediocre.... I want that cool haus!

Where do I find these coolhaus cookies? Those look fantastic!

Google.com
Jeni's and Greaeters are from Columbus, Some of the best you will get.
Talenti is a gelato the flavor compared to Jenis and Graeters is subpar.

I could imagine from what you post... I never really was crazy about talenti. Theres a spot in rhode island called brickleys, they probably have the best iver tried. Im in ny, so i think the best ive had here was gelato in little italy. I love some basic carvel too.

Big ups to you Bob for mentioning icecreamsource.com There goes all my money
More painful for me because I wish I could order from them but no shipping to Canada

I love ice cream.

Inb4 this thread becomes post your favorite ice cream, only to be told your opinion sucks and you have bad taste buds.

Oh wait, nvm too late. :p

Still available and being consumed after tonight's leg session.

As you make your way down the pint the graham cracker pieces are scattered all over the place. The Chocolate Flakes are hit or miss in the pint. I had a total of around 10 that were little shards that reminded me of taking a piece of chocolate and shattering it on a counter with a hammer. The texture is very light and melts instantly in your mouth. The Marshmallow Swirl is hard to pick up, but there is a small light texture throughout the pint that is limited in appearance. The combination of the marshmallow base, bits of graham crackers, and little shards of chocolate compliment each other perfectly. The only downside is it seems that a bit more could of made this pint spectacular. The base is good, but its not great. The Wegmans base I had in the past was superior as a marshmallow flavor alone. Gelato Fiasco reminded me of a stronger graham cracker base, and B&J's is more chocolate based. Dairy Queen is a basic vanilla soft serve that meshes their mix-ins to give everything an ever-lasting taste. Overall this is a good pint, with a touch more of the mix-ins provided and a denser marshmallow flavor this would be a top rank!

Grade: B

I tried B&J cinnamon buns for the first time last night (eons behind but I'm CDN so I had to drive to US to get it) and was kind of disappointed. The mix-ins were good and plentiful but the base was just ok. I know the pint says caramel ice cream, but tasted more like vanilla. No higher than a B- for me.
