It really depends on your labs. Have you had your pregnenolone levels checked? I'm 41 and I take 100mgs everyday. I started with oral and my levels were about 200. I took 50mgs sublingually for 3 months and my levels dropped to 17! I went back to oral. So back to your question it really depends on what your levels are. Post em if you got em.
 
Have not had labs done on it specifically.

Labs are helpful, but not necessarily required to know if it will help you. You'll know very fast based on energy and mood. I've seen people find positive effects as young as 30 with a low dose. If you are truly low, 10mg won't do much at first and generally you'd start at a higher dose and could back down. 50mg sublingually brought my levels to the top of the range over the course of 4 weeks, but DHEA was still in low mid-range, so I was advised to supplement as my endo wants me in the top of the range. I added in 25mg to start and that brought me up.I dropped back to 25mg preg eod and 5mg DHEA. Now I only take it on the day of injection and my levels are nice and steady.

Let me just say that outside of TRT, nothing has changed my life more in terms of memory, alpha, and general well being than adding in pregnenolone. It is easy to understand why it is becoming better understood to add into TRT protocols.
 
I'm in my 40 also and although I didn't do lab test for pregnenolone I take 5mg few days a week and it helps with my energy and mood. Why take higher dose if low dose is good enough.
 
Honestly because most guys that tinker with hormones aren't looking for just good enough. I am all for low doses of anything to get you optimal, so if it only takes 5mg eod, then by all means stay with it.
 
Pregnenolone levels do fall as you get older; ESPECIALLY if you are on or have taken propecia or other 5-AR inhibitors for prostate or hair loss/alopecia.
 
Think I will start with 20mg for week 1 and then just 10 mg per day.

I don't see the link between prophecies intake and low pregnenolone.

Here's my personal experience with both oral and sublingual. I took 100 Mgs of oral preg for 3 months and my levels got to 207. Dr wanted them higher. I started on 50 mgs sublingual thinking it would help bring my levels up. After 3 months of sublingual my levels dropped to 17. So now I'm back on oral. But that's me. Most people do great on sublingual.

Propecia destroys pregenolone, I just found this out recently, I don't have the medical citation...I should have saved it, but it did state that this is the primary cause of sexual dysfunction from propecia.
 
It is actually because it is a 5α-reductase inhibitor and prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT, therefore lowering libido and causing ED. But allowing a nice head of hair!

This I agree with. But finasteride doesn't lower pregnenolonelevel I the body.
