Red meat Vs. chicken or turkey

Check out the Four hour chef, great recipes and cooking tips and tricks that took my body through tremendous gains and overall better health. Lots of other mumbo jumbo but the overall premise follows a high protein and fat based diet. Lots of meats = happy eater

I believe red meat like ground beef produces better gains vs chicken or ground turkey? I seem to get better gains from beef or steak vs chicken or turkey. My muscle hardness also seems better. ( I do also supplement with creatine). I noticed I have to eat less red meat at a sitting to feel satisfied. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

Back in the day athletes would eat steaks several times a day because they performed better... didn't know why but always felt stronger and recovered faster.. Muhammad Ali had lbs of frozen steaks and bottled water, in glass... shipped to wherever he was fighting. We now know it has the highest concentration of creatine and as well as higher quality protein

This steak or chicken boils down to budget for me, having to eat so much I would prefer steak but the money just isn't there

i personally just cant do chicken or tuna constantly cant stand them

wish i had some guys to go hunting with or friends who hunt would like years worth of game meat

This is my issue. By the time i make chicken breast palatable to me it is no healthier than the red meat I would have preferred to eat to begin with. Fattier cuts of chicken like thigh I like but still would rather have pork or beef. I can get 85% lean for about 3.29 lb, rinse it to get the leanness of about 90% so I am good to go with that. I do like ground turkey 93% lean and can get that for 3.29 per 19 oz.

My protein breakdown is about this:
Milk: 40%
Beef: 25%
Eggs: 10%
Protein Powder:10%
Pork:10%
Grains, Nuts, chicken, turkey:5%

These are not set in stone. I go through periods where eggs are 1.5 dozen a day. Periods where milk is at least a gallon a day and then periods where beef is 1.5lbs a day. The above is the loose averages.

90/10 ground chicken is 2.99 per 16oz, 93/7 ground turkey is damn near twice that here... when doing chilli or spaghetti ill do 80/20 beef thouroughly drained... 50g's from protein powder comes in real handy when food budgeting

90/10??. Screw that cardboard tasting garbage!. I get 80/20....Sometimes 85/15. Fat=flavor.

If peopke are fat concious, it is good to know that the fat within the meat itself is only a small portion saturated.

Not that you should avoid that but still

I prefer eating turkey. It's low in fat and high in protein . Red meats contain lots of cholesterol which is bad for your health.

The cholesterol scare is really a myth... there's lean beef with no more fat than many other animal protein

I had a lot of pink meat yesterday..................Shrimp... YUM !!

Red meat is most definitely higher in calories gram for gram... That's a fact. The mixed calories you eat the more gainz you'll get obviously! Red meat just makes it easier to get more fat/calories in. I think sometimes we tend to eat very low I'm fat just by default. When you don't count calories and just trying to "eat clean"... Chicken breast, veg, rice, potato, etc is all very very low in fat... And I'm some ground beef year and there and that influx on calories may make you feel a little more full ( both satiety and muscularly). I'm a huge fan if grass fed beef and I eat about a pound or two a day as my main protein source until I diet at which point I'll have to switch to a lower calorie protein

It's not because of more calories that beef is better for gains... it's a superior from of protein and has higher concentrations of creatine

Superior source of protein? And since when does creatine (a non calorically dense nutrient) directly relate to muscle growth?

Do explain how the vast superiority of beef protein triumphs increased calories of chicken

Are you not aware of the studies on creatine for muscle growth :p

Ummmmmm yeah all the studies that show it's impact on athletic preformance

Some show lean mass gains :D

haha im just yanking your chain. Both chicken and beef are good sources of protection n

I will also note that, IIRC, chicken has more leucine/g of protein and more protein/g of product. A higher leucine content could be argued into it being a 'superior source of protein'

Only someone preparing for a contest would get a benefit from something leaner than a lean cut of beef.. which you can get at or under 5%... I guarantee you'll gain more muscle with beef than chicken. You think it's a joke about a million athletes being proof but before athletes knew about fat grams or leucine they knew they got bigger faster and stronger and recovered faster eating beef... the proof is in the pudding

Someone on a budget would as well. $2.49/lbs chicken breasts or $8.49/lbs lean steak?

If anything, macro matched chicken+butter will give better gains. That's anecdotal evidence, and even then I've never heard that concencus amongst athletes, and I've worked with national competitors in several sports.

there are too many variables to consider whats better...

Well chicken just gets gross tasting after so many years of eating it no matter how you dress it up. Beef on the other hand is still tasty no matter how much you eat of it. Of course it's a bit more expensive for good beef and great cuts of steak. A variety of meats is what everyone wants though really so their is no point in arguing which one is "better".

Yet you have not provided said proof. How do you know what millions of athletes eat? I work with a few and we do not disclose what they eat. Not only that, but to state their performance is better BECAUSE of the beef instead of chicken would imply that you have run tests or seen many studies on a million athletes where beef and chicken were the only two variables changed.

Seems far fetched, no?

scroll down to page two to see the results of rinsing the beef for reduced fat content.

90% lean beef has no more fat than 90% ground chicken or turkey. As long as we compare apples to apples there really is no difference fat wise. Rinsing 70%(the cheapest ground beef you can buy) results in a very lean end product.

I prefer beef and because I eat primarily beef I think it is great for gains! Had I been eating chicken the whole time I would more than likely think it is great for gains!

At the end of the day which ever one makes it easy to get all your food in day in day out with out getting bored or off track diet wise is the winner for you.

These guys are idiots.... my proof is from years of experience working with all sorts of athletes and trainers. Personal experience. You obviously have none because anyone worth a $#!÷ knows beef is better than chicken or fish for recovery and growth. If you're training your ass off the extra calories are needed... can't believe some pencilneck thinks otherwise.

Are you talking to me? First off I said I love beef and prefer it and it is my main protein source. For some it leaves them feeling sluggish and they can't eat much of it. If you like it and consume sufficient quantities then beef is great. If it leaves you sluggish with no appetite it is not superior.

If you really work with large amounts of athletes as you claim then you should know that you cannot make blanket statements and apply them to all individuals. If you have someone who hates beef and loves fish then I truly believe they will make better gains with the fish as they will be able to consume more of it.

That being said I do agree with you that beef is superior IF the individual digests it well and likes to consume it. Younger guys especially with very fast metabolisms that have a hard time getting calories will benefit from the additional fat calories.

In closing we were having a good debate in here no need to sling insults people can have opposing opinions.
