no way to tell how many mgs of Epicatechin it has but a total catechin content of 580 mg, which seems substantial
and the price is very very good

is this is a potentially viable source?

I would say you may just have to take a stab at it for that price. Follidrone by Black Lion Research has 500mg of epicatechin and its over at strong supplement shop and it has good reviews. But like i said for that price just try it and see how it works.

The beloved Acacia tree enjoys an important place in human history, equally regarded across cultures, continents and religious and medicinal traditions. However, numerous species exist and it's important to know the difference. Our Acacia Catechu Extract is produced from the most common species used in traditional Western herbalism and should not be confused with its Ayurvedic cousin Acacia nilotica. Acacia catechu is traditionally used for internal comfort. Ours is standardized to 40% catechins.

Acacia Catechu Extract

Supplement Facts
Serving Size 1 Capsule
Amount Per Serving % Daily Value
Acacia Extract (Acacia catechu)
(heart wood) [standardized to 40% catechins (catechin, epicatechin)]
580 mg

Subbed to see if this is the same thing as -(-)epicatechin though?

I'm just going to say, based on the price (you know, dirt cheap) it's probably not the -(-)epi you're looking for. I could be wrong though, but that's just what I'm thinking.

It's 40% for both.

.4*580=232mg

Now, let's say it's split 50/50 for both catechins (but in reality it won't be and might contain other catechins as well), you're looking at 116mg per cap.

If you want, buy a bottle and dose it at a minimum of 3 caps, with the possibility of hitting 5-6, maybe even 7. I'll probably pick this up and do the same. Pair it with soy lecithin and it could be a cost effective option.

Can't hurt to try at that price.

At that price you could take 15 pills/day for a month for $20. Interesting...

It says it is standardized to 40% catechins, of which only a small portion will be epi. They actually have studied the amount in Acacia Catechu and it came out to be 4.156% w/w. Think about it when it comes to raws and it runs $6-8k a kg.

By all means, go for it. You just likely would need to ingest the bottle to equal the amount of (-)-epi in epi supplements.

Doubtful, but I am subbed to see how it pans out.

How about the catechin in the product?
Would that impart any benefts at all -even if the benefit is much lower than that provided by epicatechin?

Response from Swanson:

Hello,
Thank you for your patience.

After consulting with a product specialist we found that unfortunately the requested information is not available. We only specify catechins and are unaware of any amount of (-)-epicatechins. Sorry for any disappointment. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

This is actually pretty neat. Good find.

That's 4.156 in whole bark extract, not a standardized extract.

A bulk supply of this would be great, i can get 90% hplc forskolin for peanuts, so having this to add would be nice.

How about this?

No standardization. You can go for it, but you'll have to dose it extremely high, to which you're just going to ask: isn't follidrone cheaper?

Socalnutrition has bulk epicatechin. I found it perusing the web yesterday, I think it was $24 for 10g. Helluva deal, assuming quality is there

I wonder if you could dissolve the epi in a solution and dose that way. Weighing out 300-500 mg would get old.... capping gets old too. Any thoughts? Would make this much more appealing.
