DLPA oh my

The info I would have is that I have been taking those three items for about 4 years and my second is almost 3, so...

But, you need to do what you feel is best.

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty good evidence that the reported infertility issues caused by bacopa may be wrong or at least only experienced at extremely high doses. :)

I'm still going to lay off bacopa and ashwagandha for now though since I promised my wife that I would (she's the one that first brought the possible infertility issues to my attendtion). Hopefully rhodiola and l-theanine will provide a pretty effective alternative. However, I'll probably switch back to agmatine fairly quick if DPA doesn't help as I have no desire to go back to the daily back pain I was experiencing before.

Fertility is a serious and important matter, so you gotta do what you gotta do. Seeing as it is your second, you already know that it's worth it.

And on my anecdotal front, my second child was concieved while I was using ashwagahnda and bacopa..but there's certainly no harm in abstaining from it for a bit.

Take ALCAR..it boosts sperm motility, conceive, go back to using ashwa/bacopa because your pregnant wife will test your nerves, then back to ALCAR after the baby is born to help deal with the sleep deprevation ;)

Definitely. I may hate my job but seeing my son at the end of the day makes it all worth it.

HA! I like your plan. The only change I might make is using rhodiola to deal with sleep deprevation. That stuff worked awesome after my son was born.

Just thought I would let you know that I stopped taking Rhodiola a few months back for a break and I just recently started back up. Yowza, I forgot how I react to it. But, I also wanted to point out that I decided to try the new V by Vitamin Shoppe brand- it is their take on an organic version I guess. Anyway, it is 500mg and 5% rosavins, making it one of the highest concentrates available and it is STRONG. So if you were looking an extra lift, this may be the way to go for a try.

I'll have to check out that brand. Is the effect you experienced from just taking one capsule each day? I'm currently undecided between Gaia and Eclectic (I have both...my wife prefers Gaia). The Gaia brand (120 mg @ 5% rosavins, 2 X day) provides better energy and mental clarity. The Eclectic brand (500 mg @ 3% rosavins, 2 X day) is more calming/sedating but also provides a better mood lift. I also noticed Eclectic makes my head a little foggy. I haven't taken it long enough in the past to see if that effect passes though. I wonder if I would have the same calming and increased mood effects with the brand you mentioned since they both have a higher rosavin content.

Yeah man, if it didn't F with my anxiety, I would too. I absolutely loved it for the first few weeks and then it just turned on me.

Dang... interesting feedback. I used it for maybe a couple months continuously (a few years back now) and had no sides that I can recall.

Yes, just one a day and it is incredibly energizing, but not jittery at all. I find it to be very productive.

I suppose you might get some subjective benefit from DLPA if you fried your system from caffeine or opioid abuse. Seems like everyone is stretching for some new ingredient to replace that which has been taken away, but DLPA is old news.

My wife is the endo, not me. She helps professional athletes rehab injuries under the care of Dr. Andrews. I met her when trying to rehab/heal a broken femur under Andrew's care in 2008. I smacked slab surfing Dungeons and was concerned that my big waved days were over so I paid dearly for the best and met my wife in the process. I did everything I could including HGH, dietary, power plate, bone stimulators and etc.

Wife had researched DLPA a while back as pain control is an important aspect of a body's ability to heal. Reducing the amount of opioids is also preferable for healing provided pain control is optimized.

I tried DLPA during and after opioid treatment. Nada, perhaps because my mu opioid receptors were not fried and did not need the endorphins potentiation that DLPA combined with opiate therapy can provide to someone with saturated mu receptors.

DLPA may potentiate production of endorphins for pain control, but is only a weak precursor for dopamine through conversion to tyrosine. If true, why not just take tyrosine? Regardless, the impact of DLPA on a healthy individual would be negligible, but may help increase pain control for patients on long term opioid therapy with saturated mu receptors.

While tyrosine coverts to Levodopa, everyone with whom I have spoken that has an MD behind their name says stay away from mucana and let your body achieve homeostasis through conversion of tyrosine at its own pace.

I understand the frustration as I was teethed on Supps in late 80s and early 90s when we could purchase PWOs that really worked and could buy stuff like GHB off the shelf at our local health food stores.

As I am sure you know by being on these boards, having an MD behind your name means very little. Those of us that deal with doctors all the time know that there are some good ones, but also many bad ones- especially when it comes to looking for alternative methods of treating and assisting health. They are all too keen to prescribe pharms and tell us not to take natural supplements that we know help as well or better than the $$ making ones.

As far DLPA, yeah it is old news. That doesn't mean it isn't effective or beneficial for people- supplements fall out of vogue for the next thing all the time. Think about boron. It used to be a staple for many powerlifters and weightlifters in general then kind of went away. Now it is coming back because there are so many benefits.

It's awesome that your wife is an endo and that is great to have a source of information right by your side to bounce things off of.

Yes, I have been as critical as anyone regarding your average endo that primarily treats diabetes, osteo and etc and knows very little about hormone xy axis issues. Been saying this on here since 2008 and in 2010/2011 referred many members to my former endo in NJ that primarily works with professional and Olympic athletes and has access to technology for performance optimization that is NASA like.

The MDs I listen to know there stuff and Andrews Clinic in Gulf Breeze is tops for professional and college athletes. Almost all too name athletes, QBs, backs, pitchers and etc. go to Andrews. Their rehab facility is amazing and I trust their opinions. My wife are her team help pro-athletes rehab and reach their optimal limits of performance.

That is awesome and please don't take my comments to discount anything your wife or her team are doing.

I don't. You seem like a real stand up guy. Thanks to people I have worked with over the years I am surfing 40 to 50 foot face all over the world at 47. I have incredible hormone/IGF-1 panels and I have always been natural except for two HGH runs to help heal really bad injuries.

So cool, that is the life. In a similar fashion, at 40, I am still semi-competing downhill mtn biking with all the 18yos that are blowing my mind and snowboard 40+ days a year.

All the lifting and looking after health is done to enjoy the finer things in life.
