Wow just finished reading this whole thing. Great log Kat!

On the machines or free weight conversation. Muscle understands tension, it doesn't know the difference from 100lbs of tension from free weights or machine. It simply responds to the tension. There is absolutely no difference to the muscle, it is still required to fire with enough fibers to move the resistance. The only difference is in how the stabilizer muscles are being used. If lifting for hypertrophy machines cause just as much muscle growth as free weight. They also do not fry out the CNS as bad so they are great for high frequency training and make drop sets or single training both safer and more efficient. There are several machines out there that do the job of free weights and many of them even better because you are not solely relying on gravity's limited direction. Certainly most angles can be hit by free weights with modification and body positioning but working through ROM for those angles can take multiple exercises to hit all of the angles, and can become inefficient use of time when there is a machine there that can work you through the entire ROM in one exercise.

To say that there is something free weights can do that machines can not is simply erroneous because several machines now have free moving handles and or use cables that require you to stabilize the weight. So even the stabilizers can get plenty stimulation with machines. We have come too far to still harbor the mentality that free weight is the only real or productive form of resistance training when there are machines out now that definitely can work the muscle through a better range of motion.

Bottom line, limiting yourself to one or the other is choosing not to use all of the tools available to achieve your physique goals. It is essentially choosing to be less efficient at achieving the goals. It does not mean the end result will be any different just the level of efficiency to get there.

Today's a rest day! I FINALLY got a small tub of bcaa's and glutamine yesterday from the vitamin shoppe. They will be fine until I place an online order for pwo and other supps. Hoping they help--I stay quite sore and very tender to the touch! Lol Gonna squeeze in a little cardio session after work before heading home to work on the cake! Drinking water like crazy because I'm retaining water like a camel! Lol No joke- 8 lbs of it! Ugh Boys are so lucky!
 
Got my cardio in 12 cycles of HIIT! 30 mins Felt SO good to do that again! Had to clean up my mess afterwards! Lol Even busted out 3 sets of wide pull ups SS with knee raises and 1 set of chin ups! Surprisingly pumped and full of energy now!

12 cycles of HIIT? You're way too dry. I have to change shirts every 3 cycles. And 20 minutes into my lift.

It feels like you just got out of a sauna. I find it to be almost therapeutic feeling when your all done.

Thanks! It all runs down the middle. lol Nothing touches up there but everything underneath was soaked!

I have and enjoy it for LISS or medium interval but I get nauseous and almost sick for hours if I sprint in a hoodie. Lol I do enjoy it otherwise!

Happy Thursday! Got a lot done on the cake last night but forgot to eat dinner since I was teaching a friends kid how to make cakes. Had a few bites of chicken and 2 spoons of pb. Still only hit 1400...it's was a rest day though and only did the HIIT no weights. Arms today! Had a great workout! Had to get a guy to put the plates on my lap for bench dips bc I cramped up under my clavicle on reg dips(old injury) First thing he said was "all of those?" Lol Yep! ... He challenged me though- took the 25 off then each 45 one by one making me do more! Talk about a pre burn out! Made them nice and dead for the rest of the workout! Haha

Went by Play it again sports today and bought a weightlifting belt! Gonna see how I like it! They actually had them crazy cheap because they were smalls. Guess not many smalls needed?! Got it for $4.99 O.o Its just an ironman hybrid. I can go from there if I need to later. I'm pretty short waisted so it takes up my whole waist! Haha

Just finished the transformer cake order for tomorrow! Even managed to die my hands black due to a hole in my black icing bag! Lol

Excited about training legs tomorrow! I'll have 3 girls to torture and keep motivated! Bwahahaha
I sure hope my hips/back allow me to get in some good action too!! :D
