Going to gym with a cold?

Ive had the cold for 3 days now and really dont feel as though i can miss another day at the gym. Its not a severe cold....bit of a runny nose, bit of a dry cough and feeling slighty achy. Would it still be fine to go to the gym, apart from spreading the cold to everyone else? :L

Thanks

Depending on how sick you are, you might find your strength is increased but your endurance is decreased, so strength training is okay, but keep the volume low.

You'll live. I'm sure there's all kinds of studies saying you'll get weaker doing it, but I've simply found it to be a matter of honestly assessing how you feel. I recommend not murdering yourself if you go. I do recall that it's been proven that an athlete can go something like 14 days without training and still perform on the same level.

Is there a reason this is in the supplement section?

it depends on how sick you are, a lot of ppl have said it will lower your immune system....i've found however if i go to the gym, i take a multi or whatever, bring Compete or bcaa drink with me....i don't go all out but just build a decent sweat, also stay warm when leaving the gym

i usually feel kind of crappy when first leaving the gym but i feel in a few hours I feel better than if i skipped the gym

i usually would say dont go
treat being sick like deloading phase and get your health back up

another reason is that you have a chance of getting people sick aswell

there was a study on ergo a while back saying that training during a cold might shorten the time it takes to run its course..
I do remember them saying though, go easy don't kill yourself while your immune system is compromised

cheers for all the replies folks! going to go down and not go too mad! i know its only been a few days but i literally feel like im withering away for some reason lol I know this is a completely different topic but has anyone here used DHEA as a supplement?? ive heard of alot of people using it recently with good results! did a bit of research and saw a couple of bad side effects.....any exp/thoughts??? thanks!

In my experience, going back too early or going too hard too soon can cause a relapse. When I get sick now I usually just decide to call it a deload and take enough time off to recover plus a few additional days past that. I'd say if you still feel achy like you say then it is too soon to work out. Some light cardio like walking just to get the blood flowing will work off some energy and help you feel better.

stay your sick ass home. not cool for the ppl at the gym if your sick ass is there touching ur nose then the bars n stuff

do some bodyweight workouts in ur house if ur feeling froggy

It's not worth it.

spreading the cold to everyone else
one of the myriad of reasons I built a home gym, some 10+yrs ago..
knuckleheads that have no qualms going to the gym to "get healthy" while concurrently showing no concern for cluttering up the environment with their sickly germs

as mentioned above: you wanna work out sick? go for it -- at your own damn house

If you actually know that you're contagious & are willing to possibly get others sick because you don't want to miss out on working out, you sir are a selfish prick... Stay home...

I find that hitting the gym actually helps overcome something like a cold in many cases for me. Don't try to break records or anything though. If you are only up for going through the motions, that's perfectly fine. Now if you're REALLY sick, then you need rest and only rest ;)

i agree with this, if you have the flu or a fever then stay home....but ive went to work, felt crappy, left work early went to the gym, straight home to rest and felt fine by the end of the night

never forget to keep water intake high when feeling sick either

Wear one of those health masks and go.

The only reasons that you should not be going to a gym is if you are
a) super contagious
b) uncontrollably shooting sh1t out of your butt hole (actually any hole would could for this)
c) you are vomiting everywhere like a little demon baby.
