thoughts,
man, i never had my head in the game today. i was confused all day. yesterday jj told me to take a couple warmups w knee wraps, but warmups didn't really turn out that way. there were 20 guys to a flight, and only our two monos in the warmup area. i took my opener (325) w no wraps and smoked it. when i came off, clay said he wants me to have a light wrap. i'm like, i've never had a wrap on and now my second is gonna be w one. tbh, i don't even remember the 340, but jj said it flew up. clay told me at least 365 for my third. i was like, i came into this as a tune up for the achilles, and wasn't planning on pushing it. i woulda been happy w 355. well, after looking at the film, today was the day i had 4 plates in me. the 365 looked like a warm up, and the judges told me so.
bench, the number in my head today going in was 265. opener flew off my chest and i think i made a tactical error here, that started yesterday. thursday, i had planned on opening w 235, but went w 240 when jj asked what it was gonna be yesterday. i got a little cocky i think, yeah, 5 lbs, but i think that 5 lbs cost me 15 today benching. if i woulda opened w 235, my second woulda been 260-265, and i.........would.......like......to think i woulda got 260.
i would like to point out that after i missed my last two attempts, jj came up to me and (jokingly) said "don't embarrass my gym."
so what do i do?
deadlift, god i'm stupid. i was really running a little hot after missing 2 bench attempts in a row, RAN up to the bar, ripped it up and it was like sunday at the gym, i paid no attention to tony's down command and looked like an ass.
at this point, i just went off by myself for a few, came back and could have bit a nail in half i was so pissed. shane said he saw the look on my face and just grabbed me by the head, and said just do it. i stuck to the plan and took 405 for my second and it was perfect. here i wish i woulda took a minute and looked at some film, but i was still pretty pissed. stuck to the plan and went w 425 for the third, but i'm pretty sure i left at least 10 on the bar.
in the end, i easily left ~30 for my squat, and ~10 for the deadlift. w/o my tactical error on my bench, there's another ~10 lbs
what could have been...
Sorry you are disappointed with performance, but that squat was exceptional, and the DL very solid. Given where you've been injury wise, I think there is plenty here to be optimistic about. I am impressed.
Sorry to hear of this possible snafu re qualifying for worlds.
Hang in there, "Daddy."
And that's gona be 50+ you pick up at the next meet man. No shame. Learn from it, improve and come back better. We all make mistakes. But not everyone learns from them. Make the best out of this and look forward not back.
Ahh, the joys of moving gym equipment....3 monolifts, our 2nd best platform, every bar/bench/plate/rubber mat/weight tree in the gym had to be carried from the van into the gym. as the new guy, it was pretty much expected that i be there. it was a lot of fun after competing yesterday100 lbs plates feel heavier than they normally do. we got it all in, closed the door and said fck it, lets go home...
Your gym has a large crew man, dam

Oh man - go away for a weekend & miss all the fun! Great work napalm - that squat looked like a breeze. It sounds like you'll have plenty of irons in the fire coming up between traveling & competing - best of luck to you!
napalm said:oh, and i'd like to personally thank the state of ohio for completely destroying my bracket :middlefinger: nobody is going to win a billion dollars...
ok, look. 81% of the guys going for a billion went out w the ohio state loss. you gotta figure, of the remaining 19%, 90% of them went out w the cincy loss. so, how many are left right off the bat?Hey now. I'm from Dayton, picked Dayton.

That sucks man. I wouldn't be scarred to take some IBprofin if I was you. Those are some good ques your getting. Does partial range of motion work hurt too?
Sounds pretty bad ass there Napalm
Yea man. "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can."
and for the record, i'm gonna take the p.ussy way out and talk to amy (apf), and say i won last year, can i get an invite to worlds w/o qualifying?
reasoning: will be in the philippines 4/27 - 5/17, nats in texas are 2 weeks later. i won't be ready.
i can be ready for oct...
Fck yeah napalm. Squatting and deadlifting in the same day makes it a badass day any way you slice it. I learned the hard way. Also, I've learned throughout the years that if I wanna shït talk a 50-70 year old man, I better bring it, because they've been talking shït longer than I've been alive.
Your 50 Damn man I thought you were in your 30's like me. I guess I should read your log more closely lol
Edit : good work
Hey man, nice session. Still a nice pull at the deficit, even if was slow for you.
Lol'd at story
Awesome pulls man.
Also I love when people say that ****
My buddy is 250lb bragging about his wrapped 500 barbell squat and I told him the exact same thing. Me squatting 420 on the SSB wrapped at 180# is stronger pound for pound than 500 @ 250#.
He still didn't get it.. I don't think he's good with math
I've found that the only people that talk about pound for pound are smaller guys.
I'm stronger pound for pound than some of the guys I know, but it doesn't matter because they move more weight. Period.
I think it was Koklyaev that said "the strength of a flea is interesting, but people go to the circus to see elephants."

Vasily Alexeev, the greatest strength athlete of all time, 80 world records, and the original Russian bear, tipped the scales at about 365.

god i loved watching him in the 70's...
yeah, i dunno about that. i've seen some fleas lifting elephant weights recently that have gotten more crowd noise than the elephants...
