Jim's Training to Become a Human Tank!

I like the template. Do you ever work with the axle? I like Sean's suggestion of paused front squats (don't get mad at us, Bev!) Just don't pause them ass on ankles, try to hold up in the hole. Paul Carter just had an article on T-Nation involving a volume cycle of paused high bar, then a volume cycle of high bar, then a short peaking cycle of competition style low bar, so it falls in line with that and also with my philosophy of using hard variations to keep the absolute load on the body low, while still working with a variation that is difficult and provides great carryover.

He says to use either the log or axle, I've been focusing on log because I expect it in more competitions than axle (and I expect it in TSM).

I'm gonna go with the front squats for her I think.

I agree on front squats, very helpful for a sumo deadlifter.

Though doing JM conventional followed by 5/3/1 sumo block pulls sounds like too much work. I rather see DE sumo against mini's instead, she gets great form work off the floor to keep the movement tight, and still hits extra lockout.

He recommends that the lower body days only be done for the prescribed reps, if that changes your opinion.

That seems more feasible, but if her hips can handle it, I feel like id prefer DE against bands.

I'm not a big fan of DE work, typically. Do you think it would be that much better than doing the 5/3/1?

The way he outlines in the book is to do Front Squats after Deadifts and then Block Pulls after Squats.
Even just 2" blocks can work around mobility issues, if necessary.

Yeah, but the ones I have at the gym are 4 lol.

Also, Sean1332, how much did those Rheband briefs cost you and is it worth it to get a pair?

They cost me $50 I believe. I like them and my hips feel much better when pulling sumo (even outside of sumo, they make it feel better). They're knee sleeves for your ass. There may be cheaper versions out there. I think I saw something on EFS. NomZ had something similar but they tore so either he got fat or they suck lol or quads of steel

I had the strength shop briefs and they tore at the side seam like I expected within 2 months of light use. They retail for $35-40 I believe, I think I'd choose the Rhebands for the longevity.

I'm conflicted on getting more equipment lol. I figure that I intend to gain a significant amount of weight in the next 5 years so I'm not sure it would be worth upgrading any of the equipment I currently have until I get to a more stable bodyweight....

Anyway, Deload OHP.

Strict: 105 x 2 x 3

a1. Catback Pulls: AVG x 10 x 3
a2. Chin-Ups: BW x 5 x 3

DB French Press: 35 x 8 x 3

Bleh. I hate deloading.

Gotcha...I don't know, I guess it comes down to if you got the money and if it can last you through a weight class. If it will be protective and you have the money is seriously consider it.

Did some Farmers yesterday, used different handles than I usually do. They were harder (they are powder coated and slick as f***). Tried 200 for 50', made it 35 or so. Gonna do some heavy farmers tomorrow (30-50', hoping for 250 a hand) and tire flips for distance. Right hip has been acting up the last couple of days, I'm trying to keep it stretched out and hope it won't be to much of a bother tomorrow.

Today:

Deload CGBP

CG : 155 x 2 x 2

a1. Pushups (hands elevated): BW x 10 x 2
a2. Lateral Raises: 15 x 8 x 2

BB Curl x 15

Boring. At least it's over tomorrow.

I'm gonna be completely honest here and say that when I move on from the JM to something else (probably some spin on the conjugate again) it will mostly be because of the frequent deloads. I hate deloading, a lot. I understand that it is necessary to deload on occasion, but doing it every 3 f***ing weeks is retarded. /endrant

Also, gonna throw out a poll here.....

TPB or TDB/Okie for my first bar purchase. I mostly want the bar for deadlifts (because the rogue bars suck balls to deadlift with), but also like the TPB for all around lifting. I'm not sure what APF uses for Deadlifts (whether it is a deadlift bar or just a TPB) but I much prefer it to the rogue bars my buddy has at the gym. Either one will really be better because the knurling on the TPB is 1000x better and it does have a little more bar whip than the rogue bars, but I'm not sure if I should just ball out and get the DL Bar first (or at all).....

I'm not saying I passed out after a failed stone load today, but.......

I might have passed out after a failed stone load today.

Update coming after this Chinese food.....

FINALLY, the deload is OVER!

Events:

Farmers: 200 (per hand) x 50', 250 x 10' ( :( ), 220 x 50' (2 drops)

Tire Flip: 450 x 65'

Stone Load: 235 x 48", 235 x 52", 235 x F 57" (Passed out after this, on video too lol)

The final load would have been a PR (height) as, it was close but I couldn't quite get it. Also, was hoping to hit a PR distance with 250 per hand, but that didn't happen (although, 220 x 50' is a PR even though I would've liked to do it with no drops).

Video coming later.

You totally ate shít. That's pretty badass. How ya feeling? Hell of an effort, thought the whole vid. What's your deadlift max?

That last stone was so close!

I think it's awesome your wife participates. I assume that was her in the background.

I wanted to give it another go, but everyone told me not to. Honestly, I felt fine, I was just annoyed at missing the load and then the next thing I knew they were rolling me over and I was on the ground. Smacked my chin pretty good on the concrete there, it would've been worse if I wasn't on the raised platform which stopped me from hitting the concrete full force, and I apparently had enough sense to break my fall a little bit.

I was pretty shaky for about an hour afterwards (and a little light headed) but about 30 minutes after I finished eating I felt fine.

DL max is 425.

Multi Quote is busted on the computer again.....

Yeah, if I had gotten my hands under it more when I went to push it I would've gotten it. And yes, that is her.

Glad you lucked out and didn't bash your skull.

And I was just curious about the comparison between deadlift max and the farmers walks.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get a mouthpiece too because I clench my teeth when I lift but hadn't gotten around to it before today. Now I have one though.

Most people will be able to pick up a decent bit more with farmers handles because the weight is closer to the center of gravity and it is a shorter range of motion. More similar to a trap bar deadlift than the barbell deadlift.

Yeah, that could've ended a lot worse.

Holy **** dude! Your are on strong willed dude. Awesome work and glad the spill didn't end up worse.

That's not what we meant by "use your head"

Okay sorry for the corny joke. Ouch. You're a trooper though.

DL Accumulation 8's Wave

DL: 260 x 8 x 4 (Hook Grip), 260 x 20 (Straps, TNG)

Front Squat: 185 x 5, 215 x 5, 250 x 8

a1. Lunges: 80 x 16 x 2, 90 x 16
a2. BB Row: 205 x 6, 185 x 8 x 2
a3. GHR: BW x 10 x 3

This was terrible lol. Every part of it. There were times that I legitimately believed I was going to pass out again, I raised my head and closed my eyes after one of the giant sets and almost fell over lol. This was a workout that I will be sore from, the TNG Deadlifts fried my lower back, glutes, and my quads and hammies are done from everything else. I will be surprised if there are parts of me that DON'T hurt tomorrow....

Video uploading.

Although, Rob, I did do 255 x 17 (or 15?) in the last training cycle and this is better than that. Although, I didn't use straps for any of those, and I didn't TNG.

When you are front squating with that grip what angle are your elbows, and is the bar against your neck?
