Swanson's Penultimate 5/3/1 Powerlifting Log...for real

Has anyone else had trouble logging in to AM via either the Tapatalk app or the AM app?

This is the first time since 12/19 that I've been able to connect, and it's via the am.com app. Hell I can't even find AM in Tapatalk.

No issue here, I use android in case that matters.

I occasionally do. A lot of times my post sends say loading forever.

For me, that's typically a connection issue. I reload my WiFi, restart the app (not the whole phone), and it send just fine. (I typically copy the message in case it doesn't go through so that I font have to retype it)

That OHP is darned beastly, Hungry Man. And of course incline was impaired after that. How could it not be?

Yeah I'm sure that was the case. Shoulders were on fire so I imagine the IBP told a hit.

In case none of you venture over to T Nation, Wendler is laying out a 20 week program-"Beyond 5/3/1 v1.1".

He lays out big lifts, mobility, conditioning...absolutely everything a trainee needs, Wendler has programmed.

Check it out.

Is that on his new forum there? Or an article?

It's a workout-2nd one down on the workout page.

It's pretty fücking interesting, man. Leaves NOTHING to question.

Think its the one I posted on your log sean

Edit: it is

I'm ordering a vest tomorrow. I'm totally in on the 1.1.

**** I feel like a little kid on this Christmas Day, stumbling onto some JW programming.

If he were Lilly, he'd charge everyone for it. ;) :p

I thought I'd get a vest as well.
the program seems cool but I'm just going to stick with what I'm doing seems to work for me

I just wrapped up a 4 week cycle, so the timing is perfect for me.

I'll readily admit that I'm probably the #1 person on AM who gets paralysis from analysis. Even with 5/3/1, I end up fücking around the assistance work or something.

This is 20 weeks of Wendler laying it all out with Beyond 5/3/1. I don't have to think, I don't have to program (myself, I LOVE programming for others), and it's as simple as can be.

I'm excited.

Thats the same reason I like 531 I got the fake app that helps me track my main movements...

You going to use the supps he lays out too?

Get it, brother. This'll be good for ya!

Agreed!! I need it to get my squat up close to your level.

No, I'm very happy with the supps I use now. My intra is damn near identical to Plazma at about 40% of the price, and I don't drink much protein.

I'm a whole foods guy. If I could eat steak while I trained, I would.

I think most everyone would like to have a squat at seans level
I am a bigger fan of that man's bellybutton. It is a vision, particularly with a little garland in it, in the form of lint.

The thing u come up with lol
I wish it were just fantasy. If it were it would be hairless and tanned, lol. C'mon Sean, show that sexy button to this crowd.First shot of small-batch bourbon on the rocks on deck. May the cheer begin ...Time to start cutting sweet potatoes in my apron.

Quick, non scientific poll;

How long is too long to prep for a meet?

What's the ideal amount of time, assuming trainee is healthy and adequately equipped to train, to start training for a specific competition?

I don't really think there is a too long...just more so that most people can't train in the 90%+ range of weights for too long. For example, if you did a Ed Coan peaking program you just back track from the meet the 9-12 weeks. Overall, though, I personally already have the next meet in mind and plan to always have one that I train for even if it is 6 months away. My training will just switch some close to the meet to feel heavy weight relative to my capabilities.

I'm with Rob. From what I usually see, the peaking cycles or meet prep cycles are anywhere from 6-16 weeks.

I've seen them written out anywhere from 9-20 weeks. I think I have one in Tate's vault that's 20 weeks...

Just wondering how people like a 20 week ptep, if they do at all.

It's basically western periodization w accumulation, volume, power, strength and peaking phases.

Edit: I did 12 weeks going into worlds. I felt it was a little short. It was my first shot at a 'real' meet prep. I did a horrible job at it and was injured most of the time. Had to take a couple weeks off at the end.

Didn't go anywhere near what I had planned...

I'm trying to plot my course, and I'm thinking of 20 week prep by double cubing. Perhaps one cycle sumo and the next conventional, but that's about it for variety. Or I was thinking of doing the first wave of cube ad nauseum to "build a base".

The reason I ask is because that 5/3/1 v1.1 is 20 weeks, and if I start Monday that'll put me @ 20 weeks on the Friday prior to a meet I'm dying to do. One down week then go kick ass on the platform.

It's a non-tested fed as well, so... >:D

I emailed Wendler on his thoughts but haven't heard back yet.

Sounds like 20 weeks of 5/3/1 and a Test cycle.....

I'm on TRT, and oddly enough once my total test goes >850 or so, I get wicked nasty sides. I think I may consider another compound to add to my TRT, while keeping it where it's at.

Well in that case, I would go all Nike on it.

I'd like to; T-Nation isn't publishing the last 15 weeks for some reason. I can program it myself, but damn it I wanted Wendler to do it.

Any compound suggestions to run alongside my TRT?

This might also be my last raw comp...somebody is in my ear about going multi-ply, and I'm really considering it.

I like Epi, it's not too harsh and excellent for strength. 6 weeks at 40mg and you'll be a happy guy.

I have a couple unopened bottles of RPN Havoc, so that's certainly an option. I'll have to do some more research on it.

In the event the 20 week program doesn't get released, I think I'm going to run a 6 week Boring But Big variation 2 as a prep/accumulation phase, deload, then settle into a 12 week program to the meet.

At that point I'll decide how to move forward.

What about one of the strength and peaking templates in Beyond? Thatd seem ideal for meet prep after your initial template

You're right, and I think that's where I'm headed. I'm pretty sure one of them is 12 weeks, so it'll be perfect.

I'm building the BBB Excel spreadsheet right now, and these sure seem light at 40% of TM, but I'll bet by rep #50 I won't feel that way. :biglaugh:

My work capacity suuuuuuuucks. These took me a solid 45 min to complete.

Roll outs, planks, dead bugs.

Puked on the way to the Jeep.

Good squats, man.

We have that same smith/rack at work. I ****ing HATE it!!!

Do you think I hit depth? I can't really tell; I need to film from a different angle, but that POS smith thing is against the wall so I can't get a front angled view.

I hate it to, but some dude was using the other "rack" to do wrist curls. I'm tall enough that even in the top holes, I hit my head on the smith bar when I unrack. That helps focus.

I paused the video in the hole each rep and you were just under parallel (from what I could see)
