DC or 531

What training regime do you guys think is better for strength and size (lean mass) going 4 times per week? DC Training or Wendlers 531.

I'm a fan of 5/3/1, using Dave Tate's Periodization Bible as an assistance template. I started out with that. Combined with food, I went from 190ish to 225 and strength went through the roof.

im a big believer in the the Big But Boring 5/3/1 workout myself, but with the beyonf 5/3/1 out now and seeing thte new BBB setups ill be looking into tweeking mine

I'll be general and also echo along the lines of what Tate and Wendler said in a seminar once...
The most important thing to remember is consistency, focus and determination on hard work. Points after that are secondary really.
IMO, pick one, marry it and run it into the ground for 6 months. Don't change in 4 weeks citing x does not work.

Wendler's new book. It's 150 pages of amendments and variations you can apply.

Interesting. Perhaps ill ask for this for Xmas :)

I've never done 5/3/1 I'm 25. Been training since 14 for football until I was 21. Been doing "bodybuilding" type training since then...

I played at 180-190 and I am 165 now... Would like to get some lean pounds on... Been doing a pretty straight forward progression on my big main lifts (adding 5-10 pounds per week) in the 3-5 rep range... But I'd like to get a proven system. I love the auxiliary work tho.

I'm a big believer in changing routines to keep things fresh.... But all I hear is positive things about 5/3/1...

How do people incorporate cardio for it, if it all... HIIT, prowler work, and a LISS day... Does the book cover that? I'm mentally addicted to some type of cardio every week and have had to gradually decondition myself and reduce my cardio to make progress with the weights and physique

Takes a special kind of maniac to get the most out of DC training......that being said 531 is probably the better bet.

I wish I could find a clear and concise DC log

Always wanted to run it but I wanna get it 100% right. I have no issue sticking to a routine to a T. Just seems like there's a lot of "moving parts" to DC

I prefer 531. :)

I have ran both routines and focused around 8 months straight on 531 and 6-7 on dc.
Both require good log book following to get the most out of the programs.
DC is very intense and beating sets week after week gets hard even when changing lifts. Keeping rests short and intensity high makes short workouts but great growth.
531 is great for focusing on big lifts and following percentages really helps achieve PRs. Boring but big is easy way of packing on some size.
I eventually incorporated aspects I favored from both routines and combined them.
I think the key for results from both routines is eating big.

I wouldn't do 4 days a week with DC. It is harder to train with the intensity needed for DC. Most will probably like and get more out of 531.
