napalm: 12 weeks to WPC Worlds...ya, really...

The bench eccentric didn't look that slow..... It slowed down a significant amount in the last inch or so, but it still looked faster than my 251 in Aug.

Yeah, I've been thinking about what herder said: it's more important to stay tight. And if (IMO) it's a little slow and I stay tight, so be it.

I'll go back 189 pages in your log and find that vid, I'd like to see it again...

I used to have a sick high and tight. Then I started shaving it. I tried growing it back out but nothing came lol

Great job on the bench!!!!

Is he your son? :)

Your concentric is much faster than mine was though.

I think I'm gonna forget about both and just try to stay tight. I'm kinda in uncharted territory for me. I've only benched in comp 1 other time, 7 months after my last shoulder repair and I missed 215 for my third...

**** is this Star Wars?
Nope, just basic anatomy. A concentric muscle contraction shortens the muscle. An eccentric contraction lengthens the muscle.

They're also parts of a lift. In the BP, the eccentric is on the way down, the concentric, up...

Thanks for the lesson bud. I had anatomy senior year of hs but I dropped that like Todd Pinkston

Btw napalm I saw the breakfast club. Movie was solid. I've been in my fair share of detentions believe it or not, and that brought back some memories

bench - still trying to figure out where i'm atwarmupband pull aparts 5x12bar x2x1595x5135x2x5185x5205x2225x1250x1, here it is:thoughtsnot a very good touch, but it came off my chest pretty good. i still am a little slow on the eccentric and i don't know fcking why. the manager of my gym, who spotted me said he thinks 275 is there. 2 months ago i would have been happy w 250, now, i'm not sure where i am. i def don't want to leave anything on the bar in prague, but i also don't want to waste a pr in the gym. i think i'll try 260 next week and concentrate more on a faster eccentric and a better touch. any input is appreciated...
Speed was fine. That last inch or two is where you were thinking too much. I hate seeing people bounce off the chest from a rapid downward momentum and it looked like you were trying to avoid doing just that. Slow and smooth is how I roll on heavy 1 rep bench. Not so slow I waste too much energy but slow enough that its under control. For me its easier to remember my cues when its slow; pinch the blades, activate lats, pull the bar apart, choke that bitch like it owes me money, hold my breath. Once the bar touches I shove that bitch up as hard and fast as I can while exhaling. Remember this: slow is smooth, smooth is fast...

Thanks bromanchee, probably correct in your assessment that I'm thinking too much...

Not sure if this is good or bad but bench is the one lift (out of the big three) that when I'm going for a 1RM I don't think of cues, I just press that sh*t

Every kid that has ever went to high school is one of the kids in the movie, or a combo of a couple of them...

Got out late from work, just some mobility today.

Foam roll calves, hams, quads, it band, glutes, upper and lower lumbar and obliques.

Tennis ball supra and infraspinatous, piriformis, obliques.

Mashed everything I could reach w the stick.

Still a little lingering oblique pain. We'll see tomorrow w squats.

:feelsgoodman:

Squats, new cycle, 412 1rm, 371 TM 3x3 70/80/90%

Warm up Hip flexor stretches

Mashed everything with the stick

135, 225, blah blah

Work 275x3 305x3 335x3, here it is:

Not my best effort, the third was about a 1/2" high. That's the heaviest triple I've ever done and that shyt was heavy!

Thoughts, As with my bench, I'm in uncharted territory w the squat too. I'm glad I'm at the end of my training cycle because I'm starting to feel pretty beat up. This is also about the time I start second guessing myself as to maxes, especially after things like missing the third rep today. My template says 65/75/85% for 5's next week but I'm gonna skip it and go to the 75/85/95% 531 week, and the last will be my opener for the last time.

I got 3 weeks of training left, I want to squat for the last time the 24th, and then lift on the 30th.

I can see the end now...

EDIT: worst walkout ever. I'm not going to walk out in Prague = crash course getting the feet right in the monolift.

I bet if you laced up your shoes you'd be good for another 10-20 lbs. youngsters nowadays.
Pfft on tying the shoes, never have. You bring up a good point though troop, does not tying my shoes contribute to my (historically) shytty walkout?

Lol. thats why I love boots. the ankle support just gives such a solid feel to the foot

It could very well contribute to a lot of things. Not so much worried about the ankles, as the support isn't that big of a deal, but having the base of the shoe loose and free to move around could cause instability in the walkout and possibly other areas of the lift itself. Or maybe I'm just dumb.

That settles that. Shoes will be tied next week.

<---not paying attn to the little things ATM...

I gotta agree with Para on that. I just assumed you were set on not tying them. It should allow you to get your feet situated properly. I bought my wrestling shoes a half size small just so that there's zero movement.

I just never have, and until I started lifting (relatively) heavy weights, the walkout has never been an issue.

Tbh, I think my walkout was shyt at nationals, so it was before then...

I mentioned it because I notice a difference when I squat in nike frees vs. squatting barefoot. The amount that my feet shift under load in the frees is pretty noticeable and I don't normally squat heavy. I notice it most once my knees turn out.

Good info, I can't wait till next week to test it. Where I think I lose it are the little foot adjustments I do after my two steps back - well today, 2 1/2 steps back. I do it every time too, I like shift side to side to get my feet where I want them

Thanks for pointing this out troop...

Fun with pitbulls

Zero to 1k, then disappointed there was nothing to bark at...
