Now talk about straps weakening your grip I agree belts should only be used at 85+ % of 1 rm but I also think the average athlete does not train their core to be "strong" so belts can be used if you have a weak core just work on bringing it up.

I got several herniated spinal discs, I also have to wear a certain type of belt during several exercises. Although the only time I wear it is when I'm doing cardio, I never wear it while I lift.
I recently hurt my lower back at work so I started wearing a belt on certain lifts, I can't wait to get it off, if I can't lift a weight without a belt then I shouldn't be lifting that weight and I need to strengthen up my core so that I can that's my theory on it,
