New car buying tips.

The family has outgrown our large vehicle and with the in-law visiting for the next 6 months I need to buy a new car sooner rather than later, else we'll have to take two cars where ever we go!

We've set our minds on the Mazda CX9, this is a sporty SUV or cross over so we'll not be buying any mini vans!

I've called around and was able to get 10k off MSRP and with all options we're looking at 25k.

I'd like to hear about some tips I can use to lower my price, I know the economy is bad right now and car dealers not able to sell many cars due to the lack of financing however I'll righting a check for this so maybe i can leverage that!

Let me know what tips have worked for ya at the car dealer ships
 
Right now with you writing a check you have all the power. There's plenty of dealers out there. Go in with a realistic price visit atleast 3 dealerships and play them against each other. YOu can get more off of that car.
 
You might have done this already, but set the dealers up against each other.
Get a whole list of dealers and sit at home with the telephone and a coffee.

Call the first one get the best price and his name. Call up the second one and tell him mr.smith from this dealership can give it to me for this much can you beat it. So on and so on. Youll get to a point where theyll say "if you can get it for that price go for it"

Prob the best way for getting the price down.
 
I was working 4 dealer ships today and got a good deal on an 08 CX9.. the last guy i called told me the dealer would lose some $2700 if he made such deal and would not match, he went on to say the numbers don't make sense and said go ahead and get this deal.

the car had been delivered back in Feb and being an 08 he was more inclined to get rid of it.

i did not get a good deal on my trade in but considering it has 129k miles and was ready to start falling apart i dont feel too bad about leaving some money on the table for that car!
 
actually right now new cars have great incentives that bring their price close to used cars, I was able to 10k plus off msrp... some used cars will still cost much more.
 
My only advice is: be willing to walk and make sure the dealer knows this. You may even suggest you "saw the same car down the street for cheaper, and your going to take a look ... be back in a little while"

One trick is don't work off a monthly payment. Work out the actual PRICE of the car itself. Also make sure that u find your own financing if possible. They'll get cha.
 
Yeah man for sure, just make sure to remember that you hold the power and dont be afraid to walk away. Either they will cave or you can find a better deal elsewhere.
 
I wil neverl shop car lots again ( at least for new cars). When we were look'in for a new car for my wife (she wanted a Lexus, of course) I visited all the car buying websites like Edmunds to get a ball park figure on what I should be spending, and any tips I could find. Then I started reading about online car buying. So I started visiting the different dealer's websites requesting quotes. I went all up down the east and west coast of Florida getting quotes for the ES350. I then began pinning dealers against each other with opposing quotes. With rebates and emails of other quotes I was able to save about $15,000. I got her exactly what she wanted. Color an options.

Online salesman get commissions off total cars sold (bulk for the month) not individual sales. The only time I actually spoke to the salesman was to bring my wife in to see and test drive the car. Then to sign the papers and pick up the car.
 
With all of this talk of car buying...if anyone needs a CarFax run, PM me. I have an unlimited/dealer account with them (I buy government vehicles at auctions and sell them for profit, just as a hobby).

I dont need a carfax, but if you can find me a good 350z for cheap, lets make a deal lol. Not that i dont like the rx-8, but ive always wanted a 350 since they came out
 
I used to sell cars when I was younger...

99% of the time you can get more off a used car then you can on new. New cars will save you money in the financing - 0%apr etc... You usually have to use in house financing for those incentives.

Like Aaron said never work the payments EVER. Always go straight for final price, I made quite a bit of money working the payments. $3200.00 in one sale.

A lot of dealerships will show you price +++ don't forget about those +'s its extra money your paying.

They will try at some places to good cop bad bad cop you its one of their favorite tricks.

Never ever talk about having a trade in until you've worked out the price of the car your purchasing. Never! They factor that shít in fellas. You keep that shít to yourself until the final deal is made on the new vehicle.

Ask them what the whole sale price of the new vehicle was. Tell them that you're willing to spend a certain amount over that because you know the dealership has to make a profit including them blah blah blah.

I hate to say this also, a lot of this has to do with credit, if you have the credit to buy in this economy you get everything from them. Do what you please and demand the world. It sucks that its such a game but remember you're buying the car not the douche in the tie. They're swindlers all of them I don't care what they tell you they have mouths to feed and will try and make the biggest dollar amount on you possible.

My recent experience with warrantys:

Had a 20,000 mile or 2 year warranty on alot of parts.

Obviously most people drive more than 20k in 2 years.

My plan had 6 months left, but I had gone over the mileage by 1,000 miles.

My new oil pan cost $400 :(

Lots of good tips on this thread.. I always recommend friends to set a price limit mind set before going in to make such purchase, if the seller does not meet your price range just walk away, most times car sellers after spending time trying to get a sale are more inclined to not let you just walk away.
