Can a pain med Norco lower T levels on TRT.

pmgamer18

Well-known member
I have had low testosterone for over 32 yrs due to a head injury that damaged my Pituitary. It tells your body to make hormones so I have to treat my low Testosterone,Cortisol, Thyroid and Growth Hormones. Due to the low Growth Hormones I ended up with 2 blockages going to my heat and I needed Heart Bypass Surgery 3 yrs ago. After this Dr.'s told me to go on Statin Drugs I did not want to take them meds but the told my wife and kids I would not live out the yr. if I did not go on them
I knew about the Sides and never had low Chol. in my life. Now last yr. Sept. my pain was so dam bad on them Statin Drugs I could not stand up or walk. Now Dr.'s listened to me and took me off the Statin Drugs but it was to late they damaged my muscles and I am in a lot of pain.
I was on 3 pain meds one the FDA took off the market Darvocet and this one worked very good for me no sides.
I was then put on Vicodin 3x's / day but this slowed down my voiding and I ended up with a bad bladder infection and did not know it due to the infection.
We could not get rid of the dam infection until they took me off Vicodin and put me on • Norco/Lortab acetaminophen/hydrocodon 10 mg/325 mg PO Tab. 3x’s / day.
I know a lot about low Testosterone in men and work as a mod at this forum helping men.

So they don't need to go down that road I did it took me 23 yrs being told I am Primary and I am not.
Anyway my problems now on this new pain med Norco is it lowered my Total Testosterone levels and made my Estradiol levels go why up. I take Aromasin 25 mgs to keep my Estradiol levels down. I only needed it one pill every 3 days now on Norco I need 2 pills every 12 hrs.
I break out in a sweat on the top of my head, face and upper body and feel panic problems.
I do a Test C shot every 3 days 70 mgs and this dam med lowered my testosterone levels from 1125 down to 550 in just the first 2 weeks on it.
So my Dr. had me doing a test C shot 40 mgs every day for 2 weeks to get my levels up.
And we cut the Norco dose down to 2 pills / day.
I have been back on my Test C shot e3d but now it's 80 mgs. I was feeling better but started back on e3d on my test C shot last Monday and yesterday I had to waves of sweats and Panic feelings yesterday.
Is there a pain med that works good but dose not mess with hormones. I can't see doing this much testosterone and taking this much Aromasin just to stay on this pain med.
==================================================
This is a copy of a post on Nov. 9 right now I am back on 70mgs of Test C shots E3D and not doing any HCG. We have cut the dose of Norco down to one half a pill 2x's / day.
I am starting to think Aromasin does not work anymore and other men at forums said Aromasin after being on it for a time stopped working.
Has anyone here had this problem with needing more Aromasin to keep E2 in check.
I am thinking about switching to Letrozole is anyone using this if so how did you start on it and how much do you need to keep Estradiol E2 in check.
Estradiol as been a big problem for me for many yrs just can't find a way to keep it down.
Thanks Phil

The answer is that the hydrocodone in Norco can definitely slam down your T levels. It is tough to find better pain killers than opioids if that is the class of medication that helps you. Most of the opioids can adversely affect T levels. But some may be better for you than others. The only way to know is to try alternatives. Be sure to check side effects before starting. All of these carry some risk. If you can find a non-opioid drug that works that would likely be better. It seems pretty crazy to me to fight this problem with an AI.

Right now I am weaning off Norco I am down to one half a pill 2x's / day and not feeling any pain I think most of my pain was from the kidney infection I had for about 10 months that the pain med was hidding.

But I feel I have two problems the Norco pain med. and the Aromasin not working.

I think the muscle damage I suffer from being on Statin Drugs it getting better I hit bottom a yr. ago last Sept. and could not stand up or walk with out the help of a walker.

I did try Ultram (tramadol) but at the time I think I still had this bad Kidney Infection from going on Vicodin the first of this yr. So when I see my Dr. I am going to ask if I need something for pain to let me try Ultram again.

Still my Estradiol levels are a mess this morning I took a Aromasin at about 4 am I woke up in a sweat and feeling like panic. I then went back to bed and later on woke up with dam hard morning wood. I gage my Estradiol levels by my Rem Sleep Wood and as long as I have them I know my Estraidol levels are not down to low from taking to much Aromasin.

I just don't feel Aromasin is working anymore.

The mechanism by which opioids lower T is most likely by increasing aromatization. This is directly fighting against the action of aromasin. Ultram is also an opioid and likely to have similar issues. If you can wean yourself totally off the opioids that will be the only way you can test this.

Quote from: Single opioid administration modifies gonadal steroids in both the CNS and plasma of male rats
I. Ceccarelli, A.M. De Padova, P. Fiorenzani, C. Massafra and A.M. Aloisi,

"Therefore, one of the most probable hypotheses to explain the present findings is that, immediately after treatment, low opioid concentrations induce a reduction in synthesis (low testosterone, low estradiol) while high concentrations lead to an increase in aromatization (low testosterone, high estradiol), i.e. in addition to decreasing testosterone production, morphine, tramadol and buprenorphine (high dose) would also increase aromatization of testosterone to estradiol. In the fentanyl groups, the plasma estradiol levels did not differ from control with either dose, but the E/T ratio was much higher than control in both the low and high dose groups. Thus, we can hypothesize that testosterone was decreased in fentanyl-treated animals, either because it was not produced or it was reduced to DHT via the 5-α reductase pathway."

Yes this is what my thinking is come off it all and see how things work. But it odd I was on Darvocet, Ultram, Vicodin and then Norco it was after going on Vicodin the first of this yr. my voiding slowed down. But I had no problems with feelngs of high Estraidol yet Anti's would not cure my bladder and kidney infections until I went on Norco. But as soon as I was on Norco for about a week going from 2 pills /day to 3. I started to have flashing loss of wood, sweating and panic feelings.

So your right the only way to tell is Aromasin is not working is to come off Norco. And all this is a pain because to change this drug from Aromasin to Letrozole I need it pre approved and my Dr. as to send a letter for this to MedCo to cover the cost.

Well this morning I am down to one half a pill / day and this is the best I have felt in a long time. I did my Test C shot this morning and took one Aromasin at about 5am. Then later I felt like my E2 was going up so I took one more pill this I found was to much I went to low.

So it is the pain med Norco doing this and the Aromasin is working. I feel sore but not in any pain so I think my Statin Drug damage is getting better and being on them strong pain meds was masking it. I think most of the pain I had from the first of this yr. was from the bladder infection that went into my kidney's. Now that this is fixed after having it over 10 months I feel a lot of the pain I had was from my kidney's.

Well know I know why I needed aromasin every 4 hrs on this pain med.
You have the proof to back it up. ATM was barking up the wrong tree. LOL.

Yes them guys we wrong about Aromasin not working after a time it stops working if your on pain meds.
like the link says
================
AROMASIN should be used cautiously with drugs that are metabolised via CYP 3A4 and have a narrow therapeutic window.

I posted about what you found at ATM and no one repleyed about it.

Go figure..I even provided the evidence right there in the drug instructions. It took me a whole 2 mins to have it validated. LOL

Still at ATM no reply nothing I find it very strange how much I helped guys out over there yet when I need some help I don't get much there.

nastrozole inhibited reactions catalyzed by cytochrome P450 1A2, 2C8/9, and 3A4 in vitro with Ki values which were approximately 30 times higher than the mean steady-state Cmax values observed following a 1 mg daily dose. Anastrozole had no inhibitory effect on reactions catalyzed by cytochrome P450 2A6 or 2D6 in vitro. Administration of a single 30 mg/kg or multiple 10 mg/kg doses of anastrozole to healthy subjects had no effect on the clearance of antipyrine or urinary recovery of antipyrine metabolites. Based on these in vitro and in vivo results, it is unlikely that co-administration of ARIMIDEX 1 mg with other drugs will result in clinically significant inhibition of cytochrome P450 mediated metabolism.

Adex should be better for you then aromasin in this respect.

OK great now how to make the switch I guess I will talk to my Dr. about it tomorrow. I am trying to get by on only one half the pill of Norco today I need to get off this crap.

I guess I will be like my co mod Ryan he and his Dr. do 3 to 4 pills of arimidex / day. His Dr. says some men need this much to keep E2 down.

I was doing 2 mgs. / day of Arimidex when I switched to Aromasin thinking this would be better. Yet at the time I needed this much Arimidex I was on Darvaset (spelling) do you feel that pain med could stop Arimidex from working.

It does not look like it has that high of affinity for specific p450. It may take time to get into your system and other drug out if you are going to switch.

Darvaset also contains an opioid so it may also mess with your AI.

Yes I think your right at the time I was on Arimidex and found it was not doing the job I needed more and more of it. And when I posted about this I was told it was Estradiol Rebound Effect I could take a 1 mgs pill in the morning and end up very high again by dinnner time. Now I know it was the pain meds.

At least I am glad you are finally getting some long over due answers. You are getting the proper help from your Dr. People can not stand when I am right which was even verified by your Dr who is very respected medical professionals IMO. He has helped you like no other. Some times they just need to be lead in the right direction because medicine is every changing and its hard to keep up on all the information.

Yep and at MESO Dr. Scally stuck his 2 cents in on the thread I put on there and it's like he is the last word. This is way I don't post there anymore.

It is highly unlikely [improbable] that hydrocodone [or any narcotic] altered the metabolism of Invalid Link Removed (Invalid Link Removed). As I have said before, it would be a reportable event. Can anyone imagine what an absurd and ridiculous claim you are making!!! Think About It. The drug is used in BREAST CANCER where the use of pain meds is common. I will stop there.

7.1 Drugs That Induce CYP 3A4

In a pharmacokinetic interaction study of 10 healthy postmenopausal volunteers pretreated with potent CYP 3A4 inducer rifampicin 600 mg daily for 14 days followed by a single dose of exemestane 25 mg, the mean plasma Cmax and AUC 0–∞ of exemestane were decreased by 41% and 54%, respectively.

Significant pharmacokinetic interactions mediated by inhibition of CYP isoenzymes therefore appear unlikely. Co-medications that induce CYP 3A4 (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or St. John's wort) may significantly decrease exposure to exemestane. Dose modification is recommended for patients who are also receiving a potent CYP 3A4 inducer [see Dosage and Administration (2.2)].

7.2 Drugs That Inhibit CYP 3A4

In a clinical pharmacokinetic study, coadministration of ketoconazole, a potent inhibitor of CYP 3A4, has no significant effect on exemestane pharmacokinetics. Although no other formal drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted, significant effects on exemestane clearance by CYP isoenzyme inhibitors appear unlikely.

Well I am not here to start anything and I will take what my Dr. told me after looking this up. And what it said in the insert that comes with Invalid Link Removed.
I will take over them stuies you posted after all a man should not need 4 25 mgs of Aromasin to keep his Estradiol levels down and my labs proved I did not end up to low.

And I will bet you don't think taking Statin Drugs can damage muscles.

=================================================
Interactions
AROMASIN should not be coadministered with oestrogen-containing products as these would negate its pharmacological action. No formal drug interaction studies have been carried out. In vitro evidence showed that the drug is metabolised through cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 and aldoketoreductases and does not inhibit any of the major CYP isoenzymes. In a clinical pharmacokinetic study, the specific inhibition of CYP 3A4 by ketoconazole showed no significant effects on the pharmacokinetics of Invalid Link Removed. A possible decrease of exemestane plasma levels by known inducers of CYP 3A4 cannot be excluded. AROMASIN should be used cautiously with drugs that are metabolised via CYP 3A4 and have a narrow therapeutic window.

Why I am over here...When there is no BS, drama, boasting, I think people get proper help and going in the right direction with their health. When you leave the politics, and other crap out of the forums it actually becomes beneficial. IMO this is one of the best forums out there. I get numerous emails a day from people who are going in the right direction by not micromanaging their health like many try to do. I tried it for years only to end up making matters worse.

Matrix,

I am on day two off the pain med Norco and I did a shot of Test C this morning I don't under stand this I am off the med yet my Aromasin is still not working. So far today I have had 4 25 mgs pills I just took the last one an hour ago and the panic attack stopped. This pain med must have a long half life.

So here I sit one more dam bad day and I am starting to have a lot of pain again in the morning it gets better later on by 11 am not sure yet if I will need a diff. pain med.

What about switching to adex? I am sure you have enough for an army? Letzerol is just 2 much of a gamble IMO due to it such long half life.

I am not sure it will work as I was on the pain meds doing Arimdiex I had the same problem I would take a 1 mgs pill in the morning and be to high by dinner time for Estradiol and my Dr. thinks the same thing is going on from the Norco and other pain meds I was on it was stopping the Arimidex from working. Yet my co mod and his Dr. do 3 to 4 pills of Arimidex / day and they are not on pain meds.

I asked my Dr. about going back on Arimidex and he wants me to stay on Aromasin to see if it starts working again. I did good yesterday only needed 2 pills. But today after my Test C shot I needed 4 pills so far. I am just now starting to feel better. The with Draw is nothing it's the dam panic attacks from high Estraidol that do me in.

Like I said in other thread more ways then one to skin a cat some times :)
Its strange I have more people contacting me from meso rarely post there. Even have people from ATM contacting me after kicked off the board we started ...amazing how universe and karma works... It is so true what comes around goes around..

Phil, can you take an E2 blood test, to confirm the suspected high Estrogen? Just maybe, it could be something else.

Sometimes side effects of pain meds may effect other parts of ones brain dealing with mood, energy, and motivation. I see this occasionally.

Yes just got my labs back for Estradiol and all my E2 was 20 pg/ml doing a morning fasting lab test. But the day before this I had four 25 mg. pills of Aromasin. So the thinking is if this Aromasin was working I would be very low.

Today I did my Test C shot need 4 pills of Aromasin but noon to over come the flashing and Panic Attacks I had when I got up. I did my Test C shot at 2am and too one pill of aromasin then need one more pill at 8am then one more at noon. And I can still get it up so if I was going to low all this Aromasin would kill my wood.

The pain med Norco stops Aromasin and Arimidex from working.

I found out this pain med can live for about 2 weeks after stopping it. So my Dr. said taking this much Aromasin will not hurt anything as long as I don't go to low.

You have one of the best dr's out there..IMO
How old is the batch of aromasin? is it some how different?

And he told me if I run out he will order a gross of it for me at his cost because MedCo will not cover 4 pills / day.

Update:
Today is day 4 off Norco a Pain med that is stopping my Aromasin from
working. This morning I went back on Arimidex .5 mgs at 2 am went back to
bed and later has good RSW. Yet at 8am when I woke up I was having problems
with high Estradiol levels.
So I took .5 mgs more of Arimidex I am now starting to think this dam pain
med as caused my body to make nothing by Estradiol and big time.
I am sitting heat thinking I am going to tell my Dr. it's time to stop TRT
and Try Clomid.
Yesterday I made in on 2 pills of Aromasin until 6 pm then I had Flasing
and Panic feelings and need to take one more Aromasin. And the thing about
all this is it happens day by day like clock work.

bed and later has good RSW.

It seems like you are having some serious rebound problems. Is there any way you can back off the AIs for a while and tough out the panic attacks?

Yes and we tried doing this this I suffered for 8 weeks trying this and when my labs came back my Estraidol was above the top of the range. Yes after you push past the Estradiol spiking up on you and it levels off very high Panic is not so bad. But now SHBG goes way up I can't void my prostate gets inlarged my Free and BIO T falls and the list is long.

Stopping AI's only makes one sicker and sets them back on there TRT you can pump your self full of Testosterone but it is all bound up due to high Estradiol that drives up SHBG your levels for TT look good but the Testosterone in your body is not working. So next comes the joint and muscle pain.

Did you do this when you were off the pain meds?

Yes we did this many times going back some yrs even before I had heart bypass surgery trying to figure out why Estraidol is such a dam big problem for me. I had many problems until I found out about high Estraidol levels and got them down. I had ED, could not reach an orgasm, BPH, Sore and hard nipples, rashs on my body and legs every between my little toe on my right foot this there. I had panic attacks, brain fog, fatigue and would break out in hives for no reasion. All this went away getting Estradiol down and I suffered with this over 10 yrs.

One needs to get the proper estrodial test done as well other words they may be suffering for a long time. I had a DR I was consulting with had a patient that having all e2 symptoms but normal readings. The Dr's patient linked up a consultation between me and his open minded DR. It was found out that he had been going to lab corp and having the estrodial sensitive test done for 4 years. The test kept coming back 10-15 which baffled the Dr's. After hearing the all the information, I suggested they goto Quest and get the 4021X test done (estrodial sensitive testing). Results came back 51. Its been about a month on an AI and the Dr's patient is doing good. Now the Dr is using just Quest testing if at all possible. If it was not for me and pmgammer18, Dr John would have never known this. It was not well over a year after making numerous posts it was finally recoginized. We all were running ultra-sensitive estrodial from quest <29 and getting all kinds of funky reading <2. Since I am supervised by the DR, I was able to call Quest Labs directly and talk to one of the scientists. After an hour long discussion, he kind of came to conclusion there could be a margin of error. If any one every tells you different. Both Phil and I suffered together through this for a long time. Not only will I attest to it, but also he will as well. Some trends in HRT and identifying some hidden variables Phil and I were the ones you went through it so you did not have too..

I'm really curious what your latest take on progesterone is. It seems that you did that during this period on pain meds. I'm wondering if you think it might be worth revisiting as a way to counter estrogen.

Yes I remember how Quest labs come out with this new Ulta Sensitive Estraidol test with a range if <29 it was the rage all over the forums. But I did not trust this test and when I did it it came back saying my Estraidol was <2 WTF how can some one live with a level this low. So my Dr. called them asking if any blood was left over and if so run the #4021 test we allways did it came back at 39 pg/ml and I felt high.

Quest still runs this test and in some states tells men this is the only test they do don't buy this tell them your want the #4021 test and if they will not run it fire them.

Go to LabCorp but don't run there new Sensitive Estraidol test it dose not work and tells men they are lower then they are. Get there older test.

Correct one for lab corp is 7.6-42 not 3-70
