Want more go from my preworkout

I just got a tub of Maniac from AISportsnutrition and I have a few good things to say about it. It does taste amazing, provides a great pump (although I am taking 1.5g of agmatine on training days...), better endurance/less fatigued, and provides improved focus over some others I've tried. My only complaint is that I'm not as energized as I was on previous supps. I recently finished a product called "stim-max" and it was unbelievable and half the price of Maniac. It was mostly caffeine and tasted terrible but kicked in really quick, kept me tweaking throughout the entirety of my workout and didn't really make me crash. I was just wondering if I would be ok to add 1/2 or an entire caffeine pill to Maniac. It dosen't say how much caffeine is in it but I think that with a little more it would be amazing. The only difference between when I was taking the old supp and the new one from AI is that I've quit smoking... Also, I took three weeks off all preworkout supps before I started Maniac and have even gone up to 2 servings with little noticeable difference. I'm not that big of a guy and don't drink a lot of caffeine regularly so I'm thinking that adding a little more caffeine might help. Thoughts?

Not that big of a guy? You're listed at 6'2'' 205 man, give yourself some credit.

Nicotine has stimulant properties so it is entirely possible that your having quit smoking is having some percieved negative effects on your energy level, even having given yourself a few weeks off preworkouts.

Caffeine/stims in preworkouts facilitate intense workouts, not cause them. You should ideally look for a preworkout that gives you the slight "pick me up" that allows your own mental drive to kick into gear and drive you, not crack you out and have you speeding through the gym with heart palpitations. In all likelyhood, maniac's blend has a reasonable, sane amount of caffeine and any more likely isn't going to help your workout intensity. At high enough doses, caffeine actually has depressant properties. Eventually you're going to develop a tolerance to caffeine, so the best strategy would be to keep a steady, daily dose at a consistent time and wean yourself off if you want to cycle off.

Agreed

Dude buy some bulk beta alanine, throw 4 grams in with your Maniac, and tell me what you think.
I pretty much require beta alanine for the extra drive. If my pre doesn't have enough I just dip into my stash.
Beast Sports has a preworkout called Beast Mode which has the perfect amount of Beta Alanine for me, and a low dose of Niacin as well. Online it can be found for mid $30. The only other pre I've tried that has that feeling in one scoop is N2KTS.

Don't get me wrong, AI Sports makes some great supps, Maniac being one of them, but a lot of people don't feel a pre is that effective without beta alanine. I put 4 grams in with my Maniac samples and it was spot on.

This is probably your best bet. Also it seems, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but having a halfway empty stomach helps with the energy boosts. If I've just eaten I don't get the boost from a lot of pwo's, but if I do it before I eat I get the energy.

I think it help more for quicker absorption, aminos are not competing, etc....but yeah if I don't eat and take a strong stim pre workout I'm wired.

Also Wicked by Taurus is now 25 % off...(=

Thanks for all the input guys. I have started eating a significantly bigger breakfast which is usually about two hours before I lift. I would think that this would give me more energy but perhaps the preworkout isn't kicking in as hard because it's not being taken on a completely empty stomache any more. Thanks again. I'll look into the beta alanine as well.

Your larger breakfast wouldn't happen to contain a super high amount of carbs would it? I do try to get in as many carbs as possible for breakfast to spike insulin, but then you have to remember that if blood sugar spikes, it can crash too. What goes up must come down. And with a big insulin spike, you're triggering the output of Tryptophan in the body, making you sleepy. So without keeping your blood sugar level maintained, what you're left with is low insulin level, which means low energy, and Tryptophan dragging you into a slump on top of that, with no energy in the body to combat it.
It's most noticeable after the first meal of the day since you fasted all night.
Try doing something like adding cheese in to your breakfast or eating a handful of nuts or trail mix about 45 minutes before your morning workout and see if that helps and see if that helps your energy levels.

Try Driven Sports Craze, it's an entirely different animal than 1,3 based products. The energy is smooth and non-jittery, but it's the best focus mood enhancing PWO that I've tried.

Man, I remember they handed out that muscle marinade stuff when I worked at vitamin shoppe one day in sample packets. I loved it, but it never ended up making it into the store :sad3:

I've been eating roughly 50 grams of carbs for breakfast along with about 20 grams of protein. I'm never really hungry in the morning so this is all that I can force down. I had been skipping breakfast all together and I feel much better throughout the day now that I'm starting my day with some food. Thanks for all the help guys. Btw I've been taking 500mg niacin tabs as needed as a mood stabilizer and it's really helped me with my nicotine cravings and non-smoker rage. I never take it any time near when I'm going to lift because I feel that it calms me down which would probably be counterproductive for my workouts... What do you all see as the benefit of niacin (B3) in a preworkout? Circulatory enhancer?
