Yohimbine HCI vs. Alpha-Yohimbine

I guess. I eat 2-3 meals a day, no snacks. It's not very difficult for me to dose even 3x a day in a minimal insulin state

3-4 hours after a meal is another option. I dont think I can train first thing in the morning anyways, and caffeine on a empty stomach makes me feel like I have the flu and went on a roller-coaster ride. Ill be dosing 4 hours after breakfast.

Do you know offhand other than SNS if any other companies who have reps on this forum sell yohimbine HCL?

I was considering both hcl and alphaY. There is PES which they came in and blatantly pimped AlphaT2 (although I still love them)...there is Genomyx, there is USP but I do not think they are with us anymore.

Nutraplanet sells yohimbine and they have reps. AMS has yohimbine in their Hyper Trop-x. LG uses yohimnine in almost every product including their protein (j/k). Im sure there are a few more that have yohimbine in their product line such as controlled labs.

Primaforce has a yhcl product.

I dont think they have reps here, the question refereed to reps on our forum and yohimbine in their product line.

Although I wouldn't want primaforce reps from other boards in this thread shilling.

I didnt realize you were a rep for AI. I just checked your product line and no yohimbe so your safe for now :) lol

I wonder if anyone has experience with topical Y-hcl? Is there any benefit to using it topically over ingesting it?

Yeah, given how a $10 bottle works out to 10 servings I was hoping to find someone to trade with for it. Then again, to use only preworkout 3 days a week I guess I only need 2 bottles to reality give it a shot.

Ive heard mixed reviews on that. Its also been used in an injectible

Tried to get you another study but you need to pay to see this one-

Lyle McDonald mentioned that since topical yohimbine raises blood pressure anyways, that would be a indicator that its going to the blood stream so its direct localized effect is irrelevent. Thats off the top of my head Id have to double check where I saw that.

I dont mean to come across as if LM is my ultimate guru when it comes to supplement though, I do have some personal disagreements with him.

Underground lab, was a mix of clenbuterol and yohimbine hcl. Can't recall the product name offhand, was a cool name I recall :-)

Edit - the name was Helios

Regarding topical Y-hcl. Although not conclusive, still suggests sticking with oral:

Abstract

The fat on women's thighs is more difficult to mobilize due to increased alpha-2 adrenergic receptor activity induced by estrogen. Lipolysis can be initiated through adipocyte receptor stimulation (beta adrenergic) or inhibition (adenosine or alpha-2 adrenergic) or by inhibition of phosphodiesterase. Since many women desire regional thigh fat loss, a series of clinical trials were initiated using one thigh as a double-blinded control. Trial #1: Five overweight women had injections of isoproterenol at intervals around the thigh three times a week for 4 weeks with diet and walking. Trial #2: Five overweight woman had ointment containing forskolin, yohimbine and aminophylline applied to the thigh five times a week for 4 weeks after hypertonic warm soaks with a diet and walking. Trial #3: Eighteen overweight women were divided into three groups of six and trial #2 was repeated with each agent alone vs. placebo using forskolin, yohimbine or aminophylline in separate ointments. Trial #4: Thirty overweight women had 10% aminophylline ointment applied to the thigh five times a week for 6 weeks with diet and walking. Chemistry panel, theophylline level and patch testing were performed. Trial #5: Twelve women had trial #4 repeated with 2% aminophylline cream without a diet or walking. Trial #6: Trial #5 was repeated with 0.5% aminophylline cream. All trials except yohimbine ointment gave significantly more girth loss from the treated thigh (p < 0.05 to p < 0.001). Chemistry panel showed no toxicity. Theophylline was undetectable and patch testing was negative. We conclude that topical fat reduction for women's thighs can be achieved without diet or exercise.

haha that is a pretty cool name. Clen and Y-hcl ? i thought clen would over power the effects of yohimbine anyday.

Thanks, oral it is...uh...no homo.

Yohimbine antagonizes alpha 2-adrenoceptor, clen is a Beta-2 agonist. 2 bullets 2 different specific actions.

Have any of you ever taken just a bulk AY product? It seems on a price point basis alone Y would be preferable to AY, unless you were VERY prone to a particular side effect of Y.

Its not about price to me, its about which will gives most effective results. Both are decently affordable in my opinion, but Id rather pay much more for something superior for example.

Measuring 20mg with any accuracy is a pain

So is your plan to dose like the soccer study, 10mg 2x a day? I'm not sure which way I'm going, picked up a bottle at vitamin shoppe last night

I do not think I will dose like the soccer players, but that does show it may work well dosed a little lower. The one issue with the study is I dont believe it states what times the soccer players took their yohimbine, and also it doesnt indicate whether or not its better than Lyle McDonalds protocol (dosaging based on studies as well). It does show there is some flexibility here. I may have to favor Lyle McDonalds protocol as long as I can handle the dosaging, and I believe I will be dosing 5 days a week once per day. I may throw in EC once or twice a day at 4-5 hours apart, but will not be using E w/ yohimbine for safety reasons.

I will be using it for both cardio (twice a week I hope) and intense lifting sessions, but I do not believe Ill be doing aerobic lifting, so Im not being totally dogmatic with Lyle's protocol. Ill be dropping my pre-workout Powershock and also dropping my Pump-bol (there is a small amount of carbs in it) and most likely train 3-4 hours fasted after a meal rather than first thing in the morning.

Lyle does say its ok to have a small protein shake or small meal as soon as training is over with.

Id say in your case Easy, if your jacked and much heavier than those soccer players, 10mg may have much less of an effect for you in regard to fat loss. Im assuming this is the case, so If I was in your should Id consider LM's protocol.

This is good stuff

Q: What is yohimbe/yohimbine?

Yohimbe/yohimbine is an alpha-2 antagonist, meaning it inhibits the effect of alpha-2 receptors. This has many effects in teh body including to help mobilize stubborn bodyfat; it also has a tendency to increase heart rate and blood pressure. Other side effects are also possible and individuals prone to anxiety attacks must not use yohimbine. Yohimbe can also cause water retention which can mask fat loss.

Q: What is the difference between yohimbe and yohimbine?

Yohimbe is a herbal form of the compound. Most yohimbe products are extracted from some type of bark and contain not only yohimbe but a number of related alkaloids. The alkaloids can cause a number of odd side effects including chills and sweating.

Yohimbine HCL is the pure pharmaceutical form of the compound. It has far fewer side effects and is what I recommend. The big drawback to yohimbine HCL is that it's only available in 2.5 mg capsules and you end up having to take a handful to get an effective dose.

Q: What's the effective dose of yohimbine?

0.2 mg/kg bodyweight taken with caffeine 30-60 minutes before fasted cardio. So a 70 kg (154 lb) individual would take 14 mg. Since the pills are only available in 2.5 mg doses, the individuals would take 6 of them, getting 15 mg total.

Q: Why do I have to use yohimbine/caffeine fasted?

The increase in insulin from eating anything will negate the effect of yohimbine completely and the negative studies on yohimbine invariably used it in people who had eaten.

Q: I bought a herbal form of yohimbe that says it contains 1200 mg which is 10X what you say I should be taking. What's going on?

Of that 1200 mg bark, only a small percentage is actually yohimbine. So if it were standardized to 0.2% yohimbe alkaloids, each pill would contain 1200 mg * 0.002 = 2.4 mg active ingredient.

Q: The product I bought doesn't say what it's standardized too, how do I know how much is in each pill?

You can't. Throw it out and get a better product.

Q: Can I take yohimbine with ephedrine?

While some have done this, usually lean individuals at the end of a diet, I do NOT recommend this. The potential for side effects is multiplied with the combination. Heart rate and blood pressure can do some ludicrious things. Don't do it.

Q: I bought a fat burner containing yohimbine and ephedrine, why are they doing this if it's dangerous?

Check the label, odd are it only contains a few mg of yohimbe/yohimbine, far below the effective dose. They threw it in to get it on the label but it's a useless dose.

Q: What if I want to use yohimbe in the morning before cadrio and EC later in the day, how long do I have to wait?

Wait at least 4 hours after the dose of Y/C before taking EC so that the yohimbine can clear the system.

Q: My bottle says that women shouldn't take yohimbe, why?

There is an old (wrong) idea that yohimbine raises testoterone. This is becasue yohimbine can cause erections (by incresaing blood flow to the penis) and it was assumed for years that anything that caused erections did so by raising testosterone. Yohimbine has no hormonal effects.

Q: You mentioned water retention above, how long do I need to stop taking yohimbine to drop the water?

At least 3 days, you'll pee your brains out and then it will have cleared. This is important for pre-contest bodybuilders/figure/fitness athletes who are using yohimbine. It should be dropped early enough to get rid of any water before the show.

Q: I want to lift weights and do cardio afterwards, can I take yohimbine?

Yohimbine can cause some really weird heart rate effects around high intensity activity. the best way to take it for a weight -> cardio workout is to take the yohimbine an hour before you'll be doing cardio. That is, if you have a 40 minute weight workout planned with cardio afterwards, take the yohimbine 20 minutes before the start of the weight workout. This will let the yohimbine exert it's maximum effect when you are starting the cardio and you won't feel like you're having a heart attack during the weight room workout.

So is your plan to dose like the soccer study, 10mg 2x a day? I'm not sure which way I'm going, picked up a bottle at vitamin shoppe last night

Yohimbine has a cumaltive effect in tissues, and chronic long term use (4 days or more) and effects only seem to accelerate with time.

Im planning on using 5 days a week minimum. I just got my pills in earlier, dose 5mg just to assess tolerance, so far I feel fine. Tomorrow Ill dose 7.5mg pre-training fasted before going up.

Keep in mind, bcaa's may trigger a slight insulin spike and half and half in coffee inhibits fat loss through ASP which may eliminate the fat loss effects yohimbine has to offer.

So I read through this thread and some of LM posts and decided to up the dose of Yohimbine that I'm taking. I took 10 g last night before my cardio session and had good energy for it (also had 160 mg caffeine) and didn't notice anything adverse...so far so good. Today I tried it (again empty stomach) about half an hour before my workout. This time I took 15 mg. Again, I had good energy and no noticeable sides. HR didn't spike when monitored. My wife however doesn't seem to handle it well but we're still playing with that to see if it was the Yohimbine or something else she took along with it. As for the BCAA's triggering an insulin spike, I'm not too sure about that since it has no sugar/carbs and is already in a easily absorbable and usable form. Not promoting anything, just my thoughts.

Nice post, please keep me informed of your progress. In regards to BCAA's spiking insulin, it may be very minor but we want to avoid any potential blunting of yohimbine's effects. I have to find

Did you wife consume caffeine with the yohimbine in a fasted state? If so its possible that the caffeine is putting her in a hyperglycemic state. I have this effect as well, you feel sick and nauseated. She may cut out the caffeine and just take 1-3 grams of tyrosine if she narrows down the issue to being caffeine.

Reading that study, it sounds more like they are saying that leucine passed through cell walls and activated mtor pathways even without insulin.

I'll agree that BCAAs could raise insulin, but leucine alone doesn't. I think there's at least one other non-insulinogenic amino, but having crap luck searching using my phone.

I can see the importance of not spiking insulin at the same time as consuming the yohimbine. It seems, however, to be a greater risk factor for those who are in a keto diet as you previously mentioned. Interesting for sure and I'd like to see more on this.

Yep, and what complicates it further is that she also had synephrine. I have all three of these separately so we're going to see which one it was that made her feel crappy or if it was the combo. I've tried this combo and I'm fine with it but we all know how some people can react differently. I do have some tyrosine on hand as well so we'll give that a shot too.

^This.

On the surface yes insulin may be negative for fat loss, however you have to look at several things. First and foremost is what is the concentration and it's effects on insulin. Leucine's effects on insulin is pretty controversial at best. Look at Anthony's data 2000 showing no effect. Later Anthony came back and postulated that the leucine may only acutely and transiently increase insulin. However, what we do know is the Leucine has tremendous effects on downstream insulin related pathways, i.e. mTOR, etc...upregulating machinery behind protein synthesis, etc..Protein synthesis machinery is very ATP demanding and substrates would be required for this to happen, hence why it is postulated leucine to be beneficial in fat loss. I know its a bit counterintuitive but I would not hesitate for a second to put leucine with yohimbine...I could go further as well to argue half life's of each of the compounds, etc... but I don't think I need to.
The read he is referring to is the following reference:

Potential Importance of Leucine in Treatment of Obesity and the
Metabolic Syndrome1–3

ABSTRACT Diets with total protein intake .1.5 gkg1d1 and carbohydrate intake ,150 g/d are effective for
treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and the Metabolic Syndrome. These diets improve body composition and
enhance glycemic control. During weight loss, protein-rich diets reduce loss of lean tissue and increase loss of body
fat. Specific mechanisms to explain each of these clinical outcomes remain to be fully elucidated. We propose that
keys to understanding the relationship between dietary protein and carbohydrates are the relationships between the
branched-chain amino acid leucine and insulin and glucose metabolism. Leucine is known to interact with the insulin
signaling pathway to stimulate downstream signal control of protein synthesis, resulting in maintenance of muscle
protein during periods of restricted energy intake. Leucine also appears to modulate insulin signaling and glucose use
by skeletal muscle. Whereas total protein is important in providing substrates for gluconeogenesis, leucine appears
to regulate oxidative use of glucose by skeletal muscle through stimulation of glucose recycling via the glucosealanine
cycle. These mechanisms produce protein sparing and provide a stable glucose environment with low insulin
responses during energy-restricted periods. J. Nutr. 136: 319S–323S, 2006.

"BCAA acted independently of insulin signaling on isolated pancreatic acini from diabetic rats."

Wonder how it works in non-diabetic rats. I cannot even count the number of things I have read that do this and that with glucose or insulin in diabetic rats, but do nothing at all in normal rats

This was my protocol i posted on another forum a year or two ago.

This board is obsessed with cort control supps...

I posted a thread on yohimbine hcl that is scientifically supported for fat loss. EC is scientifically (clinically in humans) successful in fat loss.

Having said that I would employ the following strategy:

Make a custom capsule with 5mg/cap of Y HCL, 50mg caffeine, 800mg's tyrosine. With discount code at custom capsules a 30+day supply is only about 22 bucks. Take 4 caps (work up to this for a 200lb male) pre-fasted cardio.

For the remainder of the day I would use EC between meals. Maybe 3 doses on days off of fasted cardio.
Once you hit sub 9-10% bodyfat then maybe I'd utilize a cort reducing supp or topical localized cream.

You should not be mixing tyrosine and yohimbine. It causes the cheesing effect. That was the reason the original SPIKE was pulled...there is clinical data on it.

I know people will still do it and formulas still do it, but there are better ways to go about it

Was unaware. I'm pretty sure that is Lyle's suggestion in his stubborn fat loss book.

Lyle isn't perfect either ;-)

Yup...and we do have to remember he still is a book seller.

I think I might use Y and C for fasted cardio and then EC for two more dose during the course of the day, I have only read half the stuff in here and will do the rest when I have time. The thing I wonder most about, which I know no one has a 100% answer to is if taking a powder like BCAAs during cardio or LCLT first thing in the AM and insulin response negating the effects of yohimbine. Thats the only reason I hesitate, because I like my BCAAs when doing fasted cardio.

I dont know about the BCAA's at this point, I have to research more prior to conclusions but it seems safe bet to use. Personally, this morning I just ate a better solid meal w/ a little more protein and skipped my bcaa/eaa drink and I think Ill be fine. Just playing it safe than sorry over something I dont feel is mandatory if your eating well anyways.

Im running a fasted style diet where I have a 16 hour fasting window, From tomorrow Im going to start using the Y-hcl at jus under 20mg total for the day split into two doses...One dose 20 minutes before a 10-minute boxing session + Ab workout of 7-9 sets...And take the other dose towards the early evening a good time apart from a meal so the insulin doesn't take away the fat loss benefits...I'll try sticking to this for 3 weeks and see how it treats me as after waking up around 8am ish I donth ave my first meal until around 2.30pm so theres enough time to keep my insulin out of the way of interfering with any fatloss from the y-hcl.

I shall report back here with what type of fat loss results im getting if theres any interest? Thanks guys to bringing up this discussion. Need to use up my tub as ive got jus under 4grams waiting to be used lol.

yes sir! I've been following along but really didn't have too much more to add. If insulin spike is a concern, then maybe offset it preemptively with a GDA to negate it?

For one of my first doses took around 7.5mg 2 days ago, 4-5 hours after I had a bit of a headache but it wasn't that bad, subsided after 2 hours, Im guessing thats due to a blood pressure increase? Anyway Ive taken it for a further 2 days in higher doses, feel fine now no headaches to worry about...Visually my obliques area is looking leaner and tighter already (fat loss happens quick on the IF diet) and I haven't seen the lower part of my abdomen look this flat since I did a proper Keto cycle some months back so I know its working.

Guessing that taking 10mgs during a fasted period may help with the increased blood flow that we're said to get on the IF'ing protocol, so we'll see. I'll report back in 3 weeks maybe with a before/after If i can make some time. But so far, so good, definate fat loss already.

Cool, yohimbine is living up to its claims. If you feel a tingling sensation in your abdomen its actually a true sign that its working too, take notice!

Im up to 12.5mg on friday, today Im using 15mg I should feel 100% fine.

Oh, good thing you reminded me bro...I did notice it just about 10-15minutes yesterday before I had my workout and also noticing a sensation near the abs right now, 45minutes after taking another 10mg ish.

Will keep a look out and im making sure that I try take it empty stomach and on the high carb days like today I take it atleast 90 minutes after a meal so that my insulin will have started to come down. Ive got a 4gram tub here so I should have plenty lol.
