I just received a bag of these a bit ago, and I ran out of my chocolate raspberry so I thought I would give these a shot and see what I think. Up to this point I have been a huge fan of chocolate raspberry so much that its the only flavor I've tried and have been hesitant to risk trying another flavor. My first impression was a good one when I seen the little pices of apple in there mixed in with some nuts and oats. As I mixed it in with the honey and peanut butter, the aroma hit me and it smelled awesome!! I was just hoping that they tasted as good as they smelled....
Consistency 7/10 These bars were a little more gooey and sticky than the chocolate rasberry that I was used to, but after getting them seperated and shaped to form I put them on individual pieces of wax paper and stuck them in the freezer. After doing that (I did the same with the choco rasp bars too) the consistency was much better and they held their form pretty well and were not near as gooey.
Taste 9/10 I was very impressed with the taste of these and they were actually much better than I thought they would be. The only thing that would have made the taste better would be if the apple taste was a little stronger. It was a little mild in my opinion and the only thing that kept me from giving these bars a 10 on taste.
Overall 8/10: Overall these bars exceeded my expectations. They tasted very good and just as with any of the other better protein bars, the all natural ingredients and profile was great! They work great for adding in cals and protein on my higher calorie days and I will enjoy these sour apple bars until they are gone. I still love my chocolate raspberry bars, but these will make a nice change that I can alternate every other batch for some variety. There are also some other things I have thought about doing that would make these sour apple bars unbelievable. Adding some whipped cream to these bars or adding some caramel to the mix are some ideas that I may try with future batches. I will definetely be using these again! :yumyum:
