Do you really need extra amino acids if you drink whey protein that they occur in naturally?

Amino acids occur naturally in many things, protein especially, since they are what protein is composed of. Extra amino acids can aid in glycogen sparing, energy, and recovery. Using amino acids is a calorie-free(aminos contain no calories), convenient and fast way of getting protein (1g of amino acids is the equivalent of 2g of protein) as they don't have to be broken down for digestion(they're already in their simplest form). Whether you use more is entirely up to you.

Generally speaking, you don't need extra if you're getting enough quality protein in your diet. Some forms of amino acids might be helpful for specific needs, but as a general rule of thumb, no you don't need pure amino acids.

Thanks. I have been doing this a while but money is a little tight so I was looking at what supplements I needed most.

Whn I look at the types and amouts of amino acids in most supplemets they are about the same as the amount I get from 1-2 scoops of whey.

Since I drink 4-5 scoops a day I think I am covered.
