Hi Guys, I 'm currently trying to lose weight. So what I'm doing is my cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach before breakfast. Should I wait to have my morning protein shake untill after cardio. Or will it matter if I have it first thing when I get up before cardio? I want to have an empty stomach when I do the cardio. thanks

empty stomach for optimal results.

i usually drop about 5-10g of leucine before i go, too.

also if taking any supps, fasted allows one to feel the full affects more, at least it does for me.

i usually take at least some bcaa's before i do mine, but you can definitely do it on empty too

Just have it immediately after you finish your cardio. As mentioned, having some BCAAs BEFORE doing your cardio is a good idea - and they have no calories, so you'll still have an empty stomach.

OR you can have it 30-40 min pre-cardio, depending on what it is and how many calories it contains. I generally do NOT consider protein shakes "food" unless they are like >200-300 calories and contain a lot of carbohydrates, so technically your stomach would still be "empty" after having a low calorie/carbohydrate one.

Another couple of things to bear in mind (put simply):
* Focus on your BODY COMPOSITION and NOT your bodyWEIGHT - so be concerned about losing fat instead of weight; and
* It doesn't matter WHEN you do your cardio re fat loss, since if you use one substrate for energy during it, you'll continue to burn another during the rest of the day, provided energy intake is targeted at fat loss.
