protein intake

I aim for about 200-250 grams of protein on training days. I get about 100 grams of protein from food and about 140 grams from whey protein shakes. Should I getting more protein from food instead of from whey? Or does it not matter? (Protein is protein)

Thanks

You're right that protein is basically protein, whey is derived from milk so it is the same thing as food. That's why the countless people who say that you should ditch supplements and only eat real food are idiots, most supplements are derived from real foods.

Thanks bro

Protein is protein. I think the reason people say what they do is if you derive so much from shakes you miss a lot of the other nutrients heavy foods have to offer

Protein is not protein. Depending on the source (e.g. milk, soy, egg, animal, etc.) each protein molecule has a different composition and number of amino acids. Not all amino acids are metabolized the same way. For example, some of the branch chain amino acids can be converted to glucose via gluconeogenesis and others used as backbones for sythesis of structural, functional, integral proteins, also including enzymes. Therefore, each amino acid can differ in length of time to digest and its bioavailability. I would suggest you study more on your biochemisty.

id say aim for more protein from food

agreed, but for some people, who are just never home and always running around, the protein shakes come in handy...250g is good, the rule as far as i know is 1g per lbs, and 2g per lb if your bulking...so i would watch it depending on what your doing

Protein Shakes are dietary SUPPLEMENTS...meaning to supplement your daily intake of protein. It should not be your primary source. I generally limit my protein shakes to no more than 1/3 of total daily protein. I usually aim for around 300g on a bulk which consists of 100g of shakes. Now if you cant get enough with meats, eggs, milk, nuts, etc. then you have to do what you have to do. Just try to get as many solids as you can.
