Which form of magnesium is best?

need some opinion

i plan to either get some magnesium taurate at 475mg a cap.

how much should i take on a daily basis? i only plan to take this pre-bed

also, another option for a magnesium supplement is AOR MAGNESIUM POTASSIUM ASPARTATE although i am leaning towards the taurate.

thanks

Magnesium taurate is far more powerful then any other form I have tried.
500mg a day should be more then sufficient. I would buy 250mg caps. Try one before bed and see how you feel and if you don't feel anything from it dose another 250mg. Taurate is king. Don't waste your money on anything else!

I got this tub of magnesium Calm which is the citrate form and it's ok but in no way comes close to taurate. I would rate it 2nd and it still doesn't compare! With taurate you can actually feel your heart rate come down. If you need recommendations on a good brand PM me.

cheers guys

this is my weapon of choice

i plan on taking 2-3 caps a night. at $24, i think its a good deal no?

so i gave in a bought some Magnesium Taurate. Made by AOR, it contains 125mg elemental Magnesium and 350mg Taurate for a total of 475mg per capsule.

I took one last night and went to bed. I woke up surprisingly refreshed. It worked....too good! I plan on taking two capsules tonight just for curiosity sake but i will probably settle with one cap a night.

What i want to know from other people is HOW much magnesium you take (also state which kind you take if not already mentioned) and WHEN you take your magnesium.

I have grown a love affair with magnesium from the first hit. Love at first sight. I want to see how people are incorporating Magnesium to yield benefits other than sleep.

Thanks

I'm doing the same thing, taking 1 cap before I go to bed (same brand you are). I sleep very good. It gets great reviews on Amazon.com, Swansons, etc.

how long have you been supplementing with that specific product?

About 3 weeks now. My daughter also takes it too, usually before she swims. She has had some cramping issues in the past and so far this seems to be helping a lot with that issue.

good stuff!

i wish the best for you with magnesium.

Update:

Second time i took the Mag before bed. This time i took 2 caps. TOO powerful i must say. I definitely felt the drowsiness and fell a sleep with no problem.

The problem was i woke up about 1 hour earlier than i would like (5am). This was the weird part when i tried to go back to sleep: i was in an area where i was "sleeping" and still conscious. In other words, i would literally see the dreams form in my head. Sorta a cool and scary experience. I woke up very groggy at first then refreshed as opposed to just one cap where i would just wake up refreshed.

In conclusion, i am sticking with 1 cap of Mag Taurate :bigok:

I thought that magnesium only enhanced sleep through muscle relaxation, so this sounds a little scary to me.

It happened to me too. I woke up earlier than normal (cat) and I felt great, ready to go. Sleep is much deeper when I take this prior to bed.

Told yah it's powerful stuff ;) Won't get that effect with Citrate.

This topic intrigued me, so i looked into it a little bit. Apparently the synergy of magnesium and taurine is what causes the effects that have been detailed in this thread with Magnesium Taurate. So here is what I'm thinking: Wouldn't taking any form of chelated magnesium (i.e. Citrate, Orotate, basically anything that ends in -ate) alongside taurine give the same effects? Chelated magnesium will ionize in water, so wouldn't taking mag citrate with taurine be the same as megnesium ions bound to taurine??? just a thought...

I dont have an answer to your question but could you please elaborate on this "synergy" of Magnesium and Taurate please?

thanks

Hmmm well I can't give much for details... I looked hard but couldn't really find a lot. Basically the best info I could find was from a few health websites saying that the two work well together since they are purported to have similar benefits (CNS calming, muscle relaxation, insulin sensitivity, etc.) so they work efficiently when combined. Also, it seems that together they aid in the transport of Mg ions through cell membranes.
