A Carnival of Cortisol Carnage: X-Lean and N2BM

great lift Resolve and congrats on the 370!!! Man I am just a sliver behind you on that one!! Love the review and how you cater it to your size. I will be starting Slin soon and going to be playing with the dosing. For your Need2Slin are you 3 a day solo, or some post lift and some before meal?

3 caps post-workout, then 3 caps with a later meal.

Yeah, I apologize, I've been meaning to get over to your Testopro Log. I'm just too friggin' absentminded sometimes and I forget.

Slin is something I'll have to try one of these days.

haha, it's all good my friend.

370 on bench? yowza!

370 on bench? yowza!

Yup. It went up surprisingly easy. That's both a pro and a con to 5/3/1 training: you do steadily increase in strength, but you never actually max out. You add a predetermined amount of weight to what you lifted last month and shoot for that. So, while 370 is a PR, I had to restrain myself from loading on anymore weight.

It is a situation where patience pays off. :)

Day 9

Again, this is an update on yesterday's workout.

X-Lean: Lethargy. Big time. I've increased my caffeine intake just so I can stay cognizant throughout the day. 2 scoops of ASGT didn't even get me all fired up like it normally does. On the other hand, stress levels are very low, despite doing some pretty intense stuff this week, and I'm generally very relaxed. Not sure if I'm seeing any fat-loss or not, it's hard to tell when you're looking at yourself everyday. Weight is fluctuating, from 238-241, so there is some sign of progress.

Need2Slin: Not sure what to say on this. Holding steady, effects remain the same with 3 caps. I don't know which ingredient it is, but something in this smells really good; kind of fruity and sweet.

The Workout: PL Pull Day

Deadlift: 315x5, 405x3, 495x1, 535x1 (PR!)
No messing around hit, I hit it and quit it. For the first time ever, my legs felt like the weak point in my dead, they were shaking like crazy. Though the 535 was a legit rep and I made it to lockout with good form, it was a struggle. Next month I will pull this again and focus on being more fluid and powerful.

Chins: +80x3, +90x3, +105x3, +135x3
As with the deads, power seemed slightly lacking here - darn low calories. However, I managed to increase my reps with 135 by one. Good progress.

DB Rows: 105 x16 x16 x16
Ss'd w/Face-pulls 100 x10 x10 x10
One rep increase per set over last week on the rows; fantastic stretch in my lats and a terrible burn in my forearms. The face-pulls are an accessory movement; I love the way they hid my medial and rear delts.

Pull-Throughs: 100 for 6x10
Ss'd w/Hammer Curls: 65s for 6x12
Still looking for that golden hamstring/glute accessory movement. I'm not a big fan of leg curls, so I tried pull-throughs for the first time in a while; they were decent. Not great. The hammers fried my already taxed arms. Good stuff.

man that is impressive!!! I can't wait to hit chins for 135x3!!! great job on the deads too bro!!!

Thanks. I always feel like a spectacle doing my chins - the bar is right smack in the center of the gym and a lot of heads turn my way when the weight starts piling on. I don't really mind, it's motivation to keep my form perfect.

I hear you, I have the same thing at my gym. Though I only had 1 plate strapped to me and you had 3!!! I would have been staring as well (insert Met homo joke here)
soon my friend!!! I haven't done chins or pullups in a while. My last lifting partner in Iraq, known on AM as IHateHalsey, would do 2 plates, but with arms as far out as they could go on the bar. Just blew me away!!

Yeah, man, stick with it. It's a movement that increases fairly quickly with consistency.

I rarely do an extra-wide grip after an injury I suffered last year. It's impressive you're friend could do 90 like that.

THIS!

I love pullups. If physically possible, yes Met, I would marry pullups.

Days 10 & 11

Ok, so it's been a couple of days since I've made an update. BW and I took the day off yesterday and went to a water park near our house with her company. We had a blast, and are both pretty sunburnt.

It's amazing to me, being from California I suppose, how freakishly ugly the people are out here. Ugh, the obesity and slovenliness knows no bounds! There were people that looked straight out of "The Hills Have Eyes". Anyways...

X-Lean: Lethargy has passed and I was looking good yesterday; quite pleased to spend a day with my shirt off. However, I did have to cheat somewhat as the only food there was pretty crappy. Before eating all the junk, my mid-section, particularly lower abs, were showing quite lean. Now they're rather smudged by water retention and a bit of bloat.

Need2Slin: Tried this on an empty stomach this morning before some fasted cardio, Resolve style: I did some descending sets of burpees. Started at 15reps, breathed for 30secs, reduced reps by 1 and repeated until I got down to 0. So far, no hypoglycemia. We'll see how the day goes.

Also, I received an order from Thermogum, so I'll be using both their gum and VB12 strips from here on in. BW has agreed to do a video log for Lipoburn, and Met included a "Perfect Workout Kit" in with it for me to try, so keep an eye out for a review on that too.

Thursday's (Day 10) Workout: BB Push Day

Split Squat Clusters: 115 for 4sets of 3clusters of 5
This right here is some serious conditioning, not to mention killer on your legs. My glutes are still a wreck 2 days later. It may look like light weight, but believe me, when that bar's already been on your back for more than a minute and you've got 10reps left, it doesn't feel that way.

Shoulder Tri-Set: 4 sets of 3reps, no rest til end of set
Seated BB Press:
205
Push Press: 205
Overhead DB Ext: 100
Thought I'd mix things up here a little. It was a good change, my tris were quite worked before ever even getting to the exts, and they really finished 'em off.

Chest Tri-Set: same as shoulders
Incline Press: 225
Incline Flies: 65s
French Press: 80 (as many as possible)
The incline press is more of a pre-exhaust than anything else. It's to wake up my pecs after all that shoulder activation. After the 4 main sets, I did one last burnout set of flies with 35s, very slow, for as many as I could. I didn't even count, just focused on using my chest.

Accessory:
One Leg Ext clusters: 4sets of 4clusters of 5
One Leg Press Machine Calfs: 110 for 6x10

look forward to the additions you mentioned! I am hearing great things about Lipoburn...

Lipoburn is mainly Glycerrhetinic acid, which is good stuff. It's a primary ingredient in Napalm and Eviscerate, both of which I've found quite effective.

VB12 strips from Thermogum are awesome, they taste great, dissolve pretty much instantly and, so far, seem more effective than the B complex pill I was taking every morning.

As for the "Perfect Workout Kit", Postal was the only thing I hadn't yet tried. Gave it a go after last night's workout. It's different than I anticipated - I was expecting something akin to a Gatorade or Powerade consistency, but this is far closer to a protein shake. It's tasty, reminiscent of berries and cream.

Day 12

X-Lean: Forearms are sore the workout, but my joints are feeling it too. Elbows and wrists are somewhat dry, but it comes and goes. Almost as if my body can't decide whether it wants to get inflamed or not. I have dropped the waterweight from friday's expedition, and my lower abs appear to be coming in loud and clear.

Need2Slin: I like this stuff on an empty stomach. If I take only 2 caps, I don't go hypo and it doesn't affect energy at all. This is great for fasted cardio or any activity. Still using 3caps prior to each of two meals also; blowing through this bottle like curry through grandma.

The workout: BB Pull Day

Rack Pulls from the Knee: 315x5, 405x5, 495x3, 585x1 strapped, 605x1 strapped
I like rack pulls for two reasons: 1. They accustom my body and mind to a given load, so that I am better prepared for that much weight when pulling full ROM 2. They HAMMER the posterior chain. With the posture of an RDL, my hamstrings and glutes get the attention they need with greater intensity than I could handle if pulling from the floor. Plus, it felt freaking awesome to lift 600+lb, even if I did use straps.

Bodyweight Pull-Ups: 5x12
Ss'd w/Zottman Curls: 40 for 5x8
Wanted to really focus on form and the stretch in my lats here, so I went with just bodyweight. Coupled with the Zottman's, it made for quite an effective arm and lat combo. Good pump and good energy.

One-hand Db Swings: 70x8, 75x8, 80x8, 85x8, Two-hands 85x15
Seated Incline Curls:45s for 5x12
I would have forgotten about the swings if BW hadn't of reminded me. And I'm glad she did - they really finished off my hammies, and I'm feeling them in my shoulders still today. The 45s went up surprisingly easy on those curls; I was anticipating a battle there and instead it was an all out massacre.

I love doing rack pulls for the very reasons you gave. appreciate the run down on the supps as well!!

Days 14 & 15

This is a deloading week, which means I've got no impressive numbers or deeds to report. I'm maintaining approximately the same volume as normal, but I've backed off on the weight somewhat for most movements.

Interestingly, my weight has increased, to 243. Considering there has been no change in my diet, I'm not sure what to attribute this too. It is possible that X-Lean at my high dose is eliciting sufficient anti-catabolism that it's resulting in gains. Or, maybe Need2Slin is packing me with extra pounds. Or it could be some other, unknown aspect of my biology.

Whatever the case, I'm increasing my cardio. 4lbs gained when a 240lb man is eating 2400cals on training days is crazy.

X-Lean: No more joint issues whatsoever that are out of the ordinary. As stated above, I've gained weight, but my midsection remains fairly lean. This whole situation has me confused to no end - my body is weird.

Need2Slin: Nothing new to report here. Things are holding steady; 3 caps hits the spot and seems to work well with post-workout meals.

Man, my body is the same way !

It's frustrating at times but usually for me it's just water weight because I drink around 2 gallons a day.

I hope ya get better !

Keep takin that X-Lean to help your immune system :)

Update: Day X

Alright, slowly gettin' better and back in the gym! This begins my last week on X-Lean, I will be tapering down. I'm about out of Need2Slin as well, so I'll be wrapping up at the end of the week.

X-Lean: Elbow tightness. Looking lean around the midsection though and feeling very "tight" there too. Lethargy continues to come and go, though I am sure some of this is due to my illness. I was quite surprised to fall ill at all while on X-Lean, as AET has immune activity. I just got lucky, I guess. ;)

Need2Slin: Man, I am really running out of things to say on this. My thing with GDAs is that it's been proven that glucose levels remain lower when they are used. What isn't shown is what happens to the glucose that is "disposed." Does it remain in the liver (which could then contribute to fatty liver)? Does it enter the bloodstream but is taken up by cells too quickly to be measured? If it does reach the bloodstream, does it target one cell type preferentially? They're promising substances, but there's lots that are as yet unanswered. At least to my knowledge.

The Workout: Back/Shoulders BB Day

Shoulders Tri-set: 4 sets, 3reps per lift
Seated Overhead Partial:
205
Lateral Raises: 50s
Push Press: 205
Tired and unexplosive. Still definitely under the weather. Managed to match the weight of previous weeks, but no progress.

Back Tri-set: 4sets, 3reps per lift
Clean:
245
Pronated BB Rows: 245
Good Morning: 245
Elbows were killing me here - prevented me from going heavier,as I would have liked. 245 for rows!? What am I, a wimp?

Straight Arm Pull-Downs: 80 for 5x15
My elbows were not having anything to do with the weighted pull-ups and curls I attempted to do, so I subbed these in for some additional back work. Man, these are a ***** movement. I see guys doing them all the time, and it's no wonder they all have crappy back development.
