2009 College Football Season

This changes nothing? Ha. Just wait till Corso picks Bama to win. Then it will be a guarantee.

I know you're really, really hoping this will be the 2006 Rose Bowl all over again... but it won't be. You can thank Utah for that. Texas is going to have to beat a very hungry Tide team.

Cool video of the SEC CG, with Saban's pre-game talk and McElroy's now infamous "Let's go be champions, boys."

Metallica + Bama = WIN :head:

Interesting. Both Major Applewhite (OG, triple OG) and Muschampion have worked under Sabin. Now, Ill be willing to bet Texas takes away more from than Sabin does.

What are your picks for the major bowls?

Here is mine....

Rose Bowl:
Ohio State vs Oregon

Sugar Bowl:
Florida vs Cincinnati

Fiesta Bowl:
Boise State vs TCU

Orange Bowl:
Georgia Tech vs Iowa

BCS National Championship:
Alabama vs Texas

Anybody see the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on The U last night?

I missed it - was at a work holiday party.

Just seeing some of the commentary has me really really pumped. The LSU board has this 30 page thread on it - how they loved it.

It's a Canes thing!!!

I watched most of it. On the one side it is kinda cool that all those guys got a chance and really did well athletically. It's still frustrating that they wanted to act like punks and fight during games. It's one thing to talk trash and play with a lot of intensity, but throwing blows and late hits are just ****.

It's how they got their "thUg" reputation.

The Miami Hurricanes were my favorite team when I was a young kid. Then I got intelligent and chose my own team rather than picking a team just because I heard of them.

GO BUCKEYES!!!

YES!! Excellent choice, you are clearly a man of above average intelligence. GO BUCKS!!

I'm with you on all of your picks except I've got Iowa over G-Tech.

"I respect [Florida State] because those guys kept us on the schedule, unlike the Gators." - Lamar Thomas

Do you really blame them though? Lamar Thomas is a douchebag imo, J. I can't stand that "thug" bullsh*t mentality. I can see both sides of the argument overall, and you already know I think they should play each other every year.

I knew that would get a response out of you though, haha. ;)

Well...

We changed college football forever.

And I hope you saw that it used to be fun. Now it's a bunch of puss stuff.

CFB used to have real characters. Boz. Jerome Brown. Neon Deion. Spurrier (as coach). On and on.

Now we are left with.....Tebow. Really?

When Kevin Greene was on this board a few years ago - he said that. He said CFB used to be a lot of fun, but doesn't seem like it now. More of a retarded business.

I never condoned the cheap shots. But to paraphrase Melvin Bratton - if you don't like dancing, don't let me score.

Who gives a hell if a kid wants to do the George Jefferson. Run a go route on their CB the next down to your WR.

It comes down to this - if that documentary were about one of the powerhouse schools with tradition (I.E. same results those Cane teams had), there would be a whole wing in the college football hall of fame dedicated to them.

Period.

The focus of fellow fans of the game wouldn't be of what you said above. Guaranteed.
Why else would folks go out of their way to dismiss the last true dynasty as a "flash in the pan of CFB"?

I mean really. Because it was Miami, it's thug this and thug that. Ok.

It is interesting to cruise the forums as the responses of various fan bases. Teams we didn't have some sort of run in with were markedly different than those that did.

I still hate Notre Dame.

Let's face it. When Arnsbarger took UM off the schedule - we were better than UF by a long shot. That was the case until '92 for sure. Not sure in '93, but I think '94 would have yielded an interesting match up with Sapp and Ray Lewis and our bad offense.

After that y'all would have beaten us until 2000 (when we did win in the Sugar).

I get the number of home games thing.

We know why he picked FSU over UM. UM was the traditional game for UF. Played for 30+ years longer than UF. I know you guys cherish the olden day traditions in the Swamp. You had that against UM.

Whatever. What is done is done. But pretty clear why Arnsbarger picked FSU.

Enough of my sh*t.

Yall wanna get a bowl pool going on yahoo or somewhere?

I'm doing one through work.

I don't disagree necessarily with you. UM was certainly very good and better than UF for a period of time, but that's not the case in the present. Every program will have its up's and down's. I fully expect UM to be back in the NC mix in the near future.

Hopefully we can see the 3 big Florida schools go at it every year in the near future. Probably not, but wishful thinking. :)

BTW anyone going to a bowl game this year?

I can't make Miami's - Momma is coming to VA to visit.

I may have an opportunity to go to the Outback bowl, but with a new baby it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

True, plus Oregon is ready for the chance to show some people whats what.

...yeeeah.

We're 5-5 in the last 10 years and 4-3 in BCS bowls in the same time frame, not great but clearly refutes your usual BS rhetoric. :rasp:

Lets be honest, everything associated with the U is trashy and makes God cry.

Going to Pasadena for the big one. I'll find out tomorrow how much $$ it'll cost me.

The Emerald Bowl in SF is a lame match-up this year (USC vs. BC). Went to the Cal-Miami version last year, and it was a great game. I can't stomach SC fans, and unless Flutie has another game of eligibility, Boston College does absolutely nothing for me.

I can get tickets through work to the Navy vs. Missouri game at the Texas Bowl here in Houston on New Year's Eve. I'll pass on that one.

Another first this season -- Six First Team AP All-Americans from one school. Damn... ROLL TIDE!

Any jinx associated with that?

Just wait until you see the final score. Then youll be pissed.

I'm sure sharing the site with 40,000+ redneck morons wearing burnt orange and curiously asserting their non-gayness while yelling, "Hook 'em!" will be enough to make me thoroughly disgusted.

In Memory of Samantha Grosse

My AM Bruthas,

I found this link to an obituary for OG's (Jeff's) daughter, Samantha.

My wife and I were inspired to make a modest donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Invalid Link Removed) in her name. I was going to keep this to myself, but I decided to let you guys know in the hopes that you might honor her in a small way as well, while helping out a worthy cause. This is in no way an attempt to solicit praise, or to come off as a do-gooder. Just thought it was right.

I have also decided that, since her beloved Florida team couldn't be in Pasadena, this Bama fan would make sure that the memory of our Gator buddy's daughter would be represented at the BCS National Championship Game. I have my students putting something together for my sister and I to place inside the Rose Bowl on Jan. 7th. I'll post up a pic of the project upon completion.

Jeff, I hope you're hangin' in there, dude. I know this holiday season just can't be the same for you and your family. May Samantha's life provide you all with many fond memories and smiles this Christmas and beyond.

UT actually, is the more liberal university in Texas. In your state, its like Alabama and Auburn. They are Alabama. Honestly, the people who attend are the reason I have no intention of attending. Hippies, snobs, complacent punks...basically just libtards. Its why A&M called them the "tea sippers" because they are the types that honest to god think their facinations with european culture, art, and technology give them sophistication and their modern liberalism is painfully retarded. Going down to campus is skinny jean and annoying bumper sticker heaven. "FEAR TOTALITARIANISM" "BUSH IS A WAR CRIMINAL" "CRAZY LESBO" "HOPE" "CHEYNEY = 666". Its depressing.

Samantha Grosse 3/11/87 - 11/30/09

Dear Fellows,

My beloved daughter Samantha passed away on Monday. She had come home from UF for Thanksgiving and had to be hospitalized for a cystic fibrosis lung infection. The bacteria, which turned out to be MRSA quickly invaded other organs of her body and could not be stopped. She was only 22.

She was a great kid and was always happy despite the realities of her disease. Since her passing there have been over 1,500 messages left on her facebook, attesting to the attractiveness of her bright spirit.

She was a courageous and beautiful kid and I was honored and proud to be her Dad.
It was a pleasure being here this year but I must be signing off now as my grief is too overwhelming to finish the season.

Your friend,
OldGator (Jeff Grosse)

Jeff,

I don't know how I missed this. I can't even begin tell you how very sad I'm am to hear of the loss of your daughter Samantha. I will offer up some prayers for her, as well as your family.

If there is anything that I can do for you or your family, only say the word my friend. Heaven most certainly has another angel.

God bless,

-John

You're a class act all the way, Shaun. I think this is truly an amazing demonstration of all that is still good in this world. :)

I'm possibly the only Cal Bears fan here and I understand your pain. We had some freakin coffee house revolutionary who was living on the trees that were eventually taken out for Cal's new training facility. These people lack common sense and think they're all experts because they wear a Che Gayvara shirt with their "man-bags" and stack of flyers for upcoming protests.:angryfire:

These hippies have all damn day to protest because they have no responsibilities or full-time jobs. :grumpy:

Other than that, Berkeley's a pretty cool place

They have been that way for awhile as well. A buddy of mine told me about his uncle who was an ex-Marine coming home from Vietnam and attending school at UT in the early 70s. There was some jackass protesting with a North Vietnamese flag somewhere on campus and he happened to be walking by and saw it. Apparently he beat the hippy's ass and took his NVA flag.

I would say it is just a small minority though that gives that reputation though. They are just a vocal minority.

Samantha

Tonight we received a football signed by the Gator football team in memory of Sam. Guys she knew wrote notes. Tim Tebow wrote a nice note also, concluding "Rest in Peace Sam, God has a Plan."
If I can figure out how to take a picture and post it, I will.

BTW, thanks to all for your prayers and support...
