106 Went Down Another Notch

Lord, this is the most terrible card in recent memory. The recent influx of injuries, to champions in particular, more clearly illuminates the fact that UFC needs to absorb WEC. With two - and, as of early 2010, three - more divisions at hand, 106 could have have been replaced by a Brown v., Aldo headlining event.
 
This is the best thing that could have happened to Strikeforce. If they can sign Hendo and match him with Mousasi and throw tht on CBS, then they'll really start to eat away at some of the UFC's market share.
 
I would say that signing hendo for them should be priority #1. However, their card was not great, and I believe the UFC (105)already on cable beat their ratings for the CBS show

Overall, the CBS show handily beat UFC 105, by a 2.0 margin. In the 18-34 demographic, though, the UFC did particularly well, considering that the Strikeforce show was aired on network T.V., had football spots, and so on.
 
that was kinda my point. In essence, with the true key demographic the UFC had a better night, which as you point out is even bigger when you think cable v. network.

I think Strikeforce has potential, as I like Mousasi. However, imho I think it would have been huge for them had Rogers won. They could have marketed this guy as a rags to riches story, beating the greatest of all time
 
Karo is addicted to painkillers and decided not to fight because he would test positive again for them, same thing he tested positive for after UFC 94. He started taking them after a leg injury and has been addicted ever since.

well i wont spend my money to watch this fight card..my wife is a big tito fan but she thinks forrest is going to take him out this time...

but dont forget tonight Strikeforce has live fights on for free on Showtime
 
Yeah but the the strikeforce card is full of absolute nobodies I might as well go to the local highschool and watch kids fight eachother at a football game. But yeah im still not paying for this UFC either although I bet a lot of people still do just to watch Tito. I hope he gets KTFO...
 
yes they are nobodys but still some good fights...seems like most guys trying to get a fight contract let it all hang out... ufc keeps showing the same guys over and over..i love to watch randy but he has fought in 2 of the last several cards

If you have a PS3 you can just torrent the fight. It means you'll have to wait for someone to put it up first then you download which will make it watchable around sunday morning...but its free.
 
1). Karo is a douche.
2). Props to Dana for coming through for the athlete financially who was hung out to dry.
3). On a personal note, even if Strikeforce did get Hendo, a fight between him and Mousasi would be the only fighter ever, I'd be interested in seeing. After that, I'd still be interested in watching Feyador feed, but that's it. .... On a quasi-related note, Mousasi has expressed that his end game is to end up in UFC's HW division, of course his mind can change, but it seemed apparent to me that he does not consider Strikeforce Tha Big Show and knows that a move to the UFC would be a career and personal elevation.

Although, these strings of injuries or quirks from key fighters in the UFC aren't exactly helpful business wise.
 
dana is pissed at karo!!! is he really an addict? joe rogan has a huge man crush on karo. i was never a fan. nick diaz should have won that fight. karo after saying he has the best judo throws in the world was so gay as well.

i enjoy watching strikeforce even if it is guys who got washed up in UFC. still fun and free. also i think mousasi would beat hendo now. hendo is up there in age.


that is a very good point about WEC and UFC combining because mike brown would have been a great addition to this card. no one is going to buy this UFC really and the last one was jsut average. some cool prelim KO's
 
Karo “The Heat” Parisyan is out of UFC 106 after failing to acquire a license in Nevada, according to Parisyan, due to not having the money to pay his fine from previously being suspended after testing positive for a three different pain killers following his UFC 94 bout with Kim Dong-hyun.

“There’s a lot of problems going on. They won’t re-license me unless I (expletive) pay them,” Parisyan told MMAWeekly.com. “I had to pay the $32,000 fine in order to fight. I never paid because I never had the money. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back.”

Keith Kizer, the Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission refutes Parisyan's explaination.

UFC president Dana White posted on his twitter account, “Karo Parisyan has (expletive) over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again! He will not be fighting Saturday or ever again in the UFC!”

“Everything is over bro. I’m just going to go home. Everything is (expletive) up. I’ve got to think about what I’m going to do for my career,” added 27-year old Parisyan. “I’ve got to think about what I want to do as far as fighting goes.”

This is the second time Parisyan has backed out of a UFC bout close to the event. He was scheduled to fight Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 88, but pulled out for an alleged back injury right before the weigh-ins.

...NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer told Sherdog.com Thursday that Parisyan had already been fully licensed last January and was cleared to fight this Saturday. Kizer said Parisyan had not been required to take a pre-fight drug test for the painkillers he had been flagged for in January, as they would be tested the night of the bout.

Parisyan had contacted Kizer a few weeks ago to discuss a “nagging, lingering injury,” Kizer said, and asked what proper medications he could take prior to the bout. Kizer said he instructed Parisyan that Tylenol and icing was the safest method, but encouraged the fighter to have his physician send in a letter stating his injuries and what medications he was taking for it, so the NSAC doctor could work with him.

Kizer spoke again with Parisyan within the last week to discuss a payment plan for the $32,000 fine the fighter had previously accrued. Kizer said that NSAC Chairman Pat Lundvall had agreed to disperse payment for the fine out of the fighter's show and win purse for this weekend.

“We knew (Parisyan) was having some financial difficulties and wanted to try and help him,” Kizer told Sherdog.com.

It was agreed that $16,000 would be deducted from each purse and in the case of a loss, Parisyan would make further arrangements to settle up the remaining balance. Kizer said Parisyan seemed pleased with the arrangement.

The welterweight contest between Parisyan and Hazelett was scheduled for the UFC 106 main card. White said on Twitter that Hazelett will be paid his show and win purses.

Exclusive: Karo Parisyan forced to pull out of UFC 106 due to addiction to pain killers

Dana White dropped the bombshell earlier this afternoon via his Twitter account, twelve-time Octagon veteran Karo Parisyan has been cut from the UFC due to his having pulled out of his anticipated UFC 106 welterweight clash with Dustin Hazelett.

According to White, “Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh ins again with a laundry list of excuses!!! Let the press ask karo why! Let him explain.”

Well FiveOuncesofPain.com has had the opportunity to ask why.

Longtime friend and training partner to Karo, along with being the head Jiu-Jitsu instructor down at Xtreme Couture, Neil Melanson recently received Parisyan’s blessing to clear the air regarding the circumstances surrounding his recent withdraw from Saturday evening’s card.

Karo Parisyan has suffered from a brutal battle with an addiction to pain-killers for some time now. The Armenian born Judo specialist was first introduced to the widely addictive drugs following a severe hamstring injury sustained training for a scheduled welterweight title clash with Matt Hughes that never came to fruition. A long series of injuries following the injury that prevented what would have been the biggest fight of his career has created the monster that currently haunts Karo today.

Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't make nobodies. Everyone, outside of Lesnar, starts as an unknown.

The Cavalcante vs Rosa and, especially, Tyron Woodley should be interesting. Woodley is a hell of prospect that is taking the right approach by slowly moving up in competition.
 
strikeforce ended up being very good card..... the female vera vs couture was awsome....bad apple got ktfo
 
I as well had a lot of fun watching it last night. Although at times it was hard to watch a much lower skill level fighting, it was a nice change.

Yeah MMA ruined boxing for me, it just bores me to tears now. I cant stand watching 12 rounds of people jabbing each other, although I do admire their stamina and the technical boxing, for that many rounds its still boring.
 
I'm glad that the US audience has finally really been exposed to Rog Nog. He's such an amazing fighter and I'd love to see a rematch with Shogun; if he wins against another top-10 LHW (Forrest?) and Shogun beats Machida, I can see it happening.
 
Yeah ive been watching lil Nog for a while now, I was so excited to see him fight. It is hilarious how much he looks like his brother, serious identical twins there just about. His boxing is so good!
 
his body looked so funny nad ugly but he sure has power speed and grea technical strikes. i was very impressed by the ass whipping of around a top 10 LHW. i would love to see him fight very soon again.
 
big nog will be back in feb. I believe against Cain. I think since Lesnar wont be back for a bit, have Dos Santos fight Cain and Nog fight Carwin. Alittle heavyweight elimination
