Carb Question

I have been bulking now for about 2months now and have gained about 12lbs pounds, went from 205 to 218. I think I'm a hard gainer so I've been eating just about anything I see including complex carbs throughout the day and plenty of milk and whole food protein mainly chicken lean beef and tuna.

The only weight gaining supp I threw into the mix was some Iso Mass which I felt like basically ran through my system within like and hour or so. My job has picked up and it has gotten a little harder for my to prepare meals so my question is would buying a product like Carb Slam or Golden Gains be a good post workout carb source or should I just buy up of all the sweet potatoes and other whole foods that are on sale now?

12 pounds in 2 months is good, mostly lean body mass right? If thats the case, you really arent much of a hard gainer. Me, im a hard gainer, in 2 months im lucky to pick up 8 pounds of a combination of muscle and fat. I wouldnt go with gainer mixes as they are over priced, just get the potatoes and some whole wheat goods and you'll be golden. Dont forget about your simple carbs as well mate!

We'll I just thought that I should have some carb source right after my workout being that it takes me about 20minutes to get home. I figured a carb supp might be something good to drink on the way home. Then after I'll eat my meal. And I only think i gained that much from eating like crazy every 2hours or more with plenty of protein snack's in between. I never go hungry there's always something in my system.

20 minutes driving home won't make too much of a difference, to be honest.

I know alot of "articles" say to throw down a protein shake and simple carb right when you drop the weights, but there's a relatively longer window than that to get food in your system and have it be usefully use by the body.
You would be just fine finishing your workout and driving home 20 minutes and then eating a good sized meal with carbs and protein. I did this all summer, because my home gym is 20 minutes away

And you should be taking in simple carbs after your workout rather than complex carbs. You could get some bulk maltodextrin and add that to your protein shake after a workout, then get a good meal in about 45 minutes later with complex carbs..

i don't see where it could hurt. the way my workout schedule is i have gym then class right after so i put two scoops of protein along with one scoop of carb slam (about 30g of carbs) in my shaker and drink that real quck before i leave my apt. and i bring with me a 20oz gatorade and about 3 slices of peppriage farm cinnamon bread.

i would def recommend you get it. carbs are most important postworkout so it's best not to wait. while 20 mins isn't that long, by the time you get home you'll probably be hungry anyways. i say go for it

Maltodextrin is a simple carb. It is better to take simple carbs post workout than complex carbs. Not that it wouldnt hurt to get the carb slam, infact it would be great, but there are cheaper alternatives...

This is a topic of huge debate. From what I've concluded, performance athletes are the only ones that should concern themselves with high GI carbs, while aesthetic athletes only need to concern themselves with adequate overall carb intake glycogen synthesis, just like protein synthesis, occurs throughout the day.

I ask because Carb Slam is on sale right now so I thought I might just try it out.

I think I'll buy it and kind of mix it up a bit, I figure throw it in with a post work out shake and maybe even in my preworkout and at night just have my basic meal.

Right now the stores around have all kinds of deals on turkey of course and just about everything else so I figure buy light on the supps and go for bulk amounts of real food.

i agree. as long as you take in plenty of carbs throughout the day and are smart about it (don't just eat nerds and air heads all day) then you should be fine.

and i have the 6lb carb slam and i like it. it actually makes my shakes texture a little creamier. plus it's pretty cheap

Maltodextrin is awful. Don't bother with it. And people are correct in saying it over all carb intake through the day
