When Bill Clinton was president
unemployment was at record lows
record low percentage of people on welfare
the national debt was going down
had an approval rating at 66%, the highest rating of any president since World War II
the dollar was much stronger then it was today
50$ bought a family of four groceries for a week
a gallon of gas was a dollar

today
record unemployment
record amount of people on welfare
the national debt is skyrocketing
the dollar is weak
120$ buys a family of 4 groceries for a week
a gallon of gas costs 3$

and bill clinton also inherited most of the financial situation as part of the growth caused by reagan, and lied about the debt going down as he was counting the money that was coming in for social security as part of taxation income rather than it being used to raise the funding level of social security as it was supposed to....

that is false
because during George h w Bush presidency there was a 6 month recession and unemployment was going up and there was a large debt the Regan presidency caused, so it would not be possible for Bill Clinton in inherit a good Regan economy if the George h w Bush economy was dipping.

I guess that shows how much you understand how economics works and how long it takes from a tax law change to that truly showing itself in terms of GDP growth. The lag time is 3+ years.

I know about the basics of economics being a business major.

I know you can at least agree that things were much better during Bill Clinton's presidency then they were during the George w bush presidency and today.

sure they were better then, and hmm tax rates were lower then (at the start of his presidency) on high wage earners, welfare and other entitlement payouts were lower, and we had less illegal immigrants as a percentage of population.

none of which had much to do with clinton's own policies. We also can think him for pushing and growing the CRA - Community Reinvestment Act which is what forced banks to write home loans to people who wouldn't qualify for normal loans, which is what gave us the financial mess we are in now. Without that the real estate bubble + collapse wouldn't have happened.

Damn, you beat me to the CRA... short term, short sighted growth in exchange for years of a bottomed out economy. The CRA is probably the WORST piece of legislation for a long time, up until this new double headed dragon of Cap n Trade and PelosiCare.

blame human nature for the housing bubble
i live in California, i bought my house for $350,000
it is now worth $85,000
George w bush deregulated banks which let the bubble get as big as it did
human nature of greed and the misconception that we could all be millionaires buying and selling houses took care of the rest.

Holy ****... I didn't know anyone was that blind. I can admit shortcomings of any president, but you are so blind along party lines that it is ridiculous. The CRA is the legislation that induced the predatory lending with killing ARMs. The bubble was made because the CRA strong armed banks into lending to less than worthy people.

PLEASE go do your homework before you try to debate something you obviously know nothing about.

human nature and loans the banks were forced to make available because of the CRA

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.

While I agree with the greed aspect of the bursting bubble, again, you have to go back to CRA and stop blaming Bush for everything.

In 2002 there was an inter-agency review of the effectiveness of the 1995 regulatory changes to the Community Reinvestment Act and new proposals were considered In 2003, researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York noted that dramatic changes in the financial services landscape had weakened the CRA, and that in 2003 less than 30 percent of all home purchase loans were subject to intensive review under the CRA.

Clinton hugely expanded it. And in 2003 Bush called upon congress to do something about the housing bubble, but they didn't. You can't blame or give credit too much to the president, its more about congress.

maybe this republican democracy thing isnt working out
maybe we need a new type of government
a different type of democracy

I can agree.. I would like to see a true democracy myself.

I would like to see a more libertarian approach, making people self responsible and do away with all the BS social programs that produces leeches on the system.

100% agreed

That or elect the constitutional party and revert to the true meaning of the constitution. The foundation and ideas are completely solid, but pissed on today.

the constitutional party is a bit too conservative for me

America was built on conservative values. Regardless... that party adheres to the constitution fully. Listen to Ron Paul speak, he is a constitutionalist to the fullest. The smartest politician in the political climate today.

i dont know
its too strict
no euthanasia for the suffering, no immigrants, no abortion , no marriages unless i approve
wheres the compassion and their freedom ?

i would really just like to cut off the parasites of welfare

Its not no immigrants, just no mercy for illegals...

my problem with the constitutional party is that they are too religion based

this is the truth of the matter. the president could "want to do" just about anything, but congress at the end of the day decides what they can and cant do. Take a look at this congress for example, better yet, please dont

Well, once the repubs take back control of the congress next year, as they did under Clinton, we can have those prosperous Clinton years again.

hmm what do you mean by no mercy
lock them up or send them all back or just make impossible for them to make money.

a lot of them have gone back to their original countries after not being able to find jobs, i havent seen too many of them anymore over the past year or so outside gas stations or home depot.

agreed; im not for religion based politics, thats why many middle east countries are in trouble now. Religion should stay at home or place of worship, if any religion at all ; it has no business in politics.

its send them back. But there are still more than 12-15 million of them here, just because you don't see them may just mean you can't tell the illegals from legals, or live somewhere where its not so heavy.
