2009 College Football Season

I haven't had much time to get on here lately with my schedule, but I did get a chance to watch some college football this weekend. Tebow looked very solid again this week throwing the ball down-field. It's becoming more evident now that he's worked on his mechanics in the off season. Even though our first two wins were against cupcakes, he looked spot-on regardless. I'm also impressed with our receiving corp; Cooper, Thompson, Hernandez, and Nelson have all looked good thusfar.

Big game next week against UT. I was pretty shocked to see that UCLA beat UT (UT looked slopped all around), but it is no-where-near the beating they're going to take in gainesville this saturday. :D

Just thought I'd mention that Percy Harvin looked pretty damn impressive in his first NFL game today; even had his first NFL TD catch from Brett Favre. That combo with Peterson is about as dynamic as it gets.

GO GATORS!!

tebow should be embarrased even to be on the field with the team florida played against. Hell, i could've put up some huge numbers against them.

I love the lame attempts some people have to try and knock Tebow. The kid is arguably one of the greatest college football players ever. He's won 2 national championships, and a heisman trophy (which he's very much in the running for again this year). He's proven time and time again that he can be an effective leader and guide his team into battle and win. What more could you ask for in a college athlete?

Penn State continues to look up at the Gators in the polls. Get used to it Plenny, it's going to be that way for a LONG time. There is nothing more I'd like than to play Penn State in the National Championship this year. Oh the joy of watching another Big 10 team get routed by the SEC...

PFFFFFFT! No way. The women in Gainesville are so much more better looking than Happy Valley.

I was in G'ville last week and wow.
That makes for scenery that is needed at a tailgate.

I would agree with that also. But I was speaking to the experience as a whole and it's hard to beat the whole Happy Valley ambiance on a Fall afternoon as I described.

old gator, im sorry you had to watch psu play poorly..but a wins a win. now tell me, how would florida or alabama stack up in happy valley in november?????

sorry plenny. I can go with you on the tailgate but not on the football. PSU just did not impress me enough to put them on the same field with UF although there's about a 50% chance it could happen in January if both run the table (they should) and Texas or USC drops one. BTW, that's a doomsday scenario for my family (half bleed blue and white, the other half bleed orange and blue) and both sides are VERY passionate. The drubbing UF would lay on PSU would kill off half my family. I kinda hope it never happens.

Trauma, are you going to be there? I'm headed down Weds. with Kiffin's blindfold.

This weekend will be good for a laugh. I would not want to be Lane Kiffin come this Sat. I do like my hogs chances of lighting up the scoreboard on Georgia. Oh and Penn State better look out with Temple coming to town.

Big boy - I went to the LSU-Vandy tailgate scene and had some good food. Stuff I shouldn't have eaten but whatever.

You need to come over sometime to BR.

I'm thinking about going to the Florida game this year and probably the Arkansas game at the end of the season.

Great resume for sure but he's such a douche, I can't handle all of the hype and hyperbole. I do love his last name though it sort of rolls off the tongue, it's kind of regal actually.

You know as much as I hate you guys for ducking us and the myriad of douche ND fans that are around (not you - you know what I mean) but I have to give Clausen credit.

I think that kid is seeing the light and starting to get to where he was rated to be.

That said - the WR's did him no good. But that WR Floyd is a baller! Big time.
May be the best player on your roster.

He has now found himself "out" of the "H" talk because of this sorry @ss loss.Too bad you have to get the stats and "win" too. He's grown up and matured. He's not all about the limo's etc he was when he arrived. At least he is more of a leader now. Anyhow, hats off to Meatchicken.

Granted it was against Notre Dame's defense, but Focier looked very legit. Much better than Pryor.

I don't think he is more talented than Pryor but he sure looks more decisive which is huge for a qb. All the talk is that he was made to run the weasel's spread option system, I'll be curious to see how well he does against a legit defense. It seems meatchicken's program is heading back upwards after falling off the past several seasons. A lot of my friends (all Buckeyes I don't associate with people who live in Ohio and root for Michigan) are worried that they will finally beat us this year. I say we shall see, I'm not prepared to annoint them Big Ten champs just yet.

You sure you're not getting him confused with "ol' sweater vest" himself? I laugh every time I see tressel in that god awful thing...

I mean, he even looks foolish as a south park cartoon charachter:

Unfortunately, No. I had an opportunity to secure a good ticket, but there is just too much going on right now. Plus, I had to throw down money for my Metallica ticket too. Working overtime, school and a pregnant woman is killing me right now, lol.

I would love to go to the FSU/UF game too, however that's also the due date of our child. How cool would that be if he or she was born on that day. GO GATORS!!

I own that same red sweater vest. I only don it during Ohio State/Michigan week but I love the vest. You wouldn't understand it's a Buckeye thing.

I don't believe Lane Kiffin wants to be Lane Kiffin this Saturday.

Talk is easy in off season. Now he has to take his beating.
As much as I love to hate Florida, they are an incredible football team. As much as I love to hate Tennessee, they are a shadow of a great football team. When I saw all of Kiffin's tv call outs of the Florida program, I felt like 500 nails were riding down chalk boards around me. I wonder how bad those words are going to taste when Urban Meyer puts up 60+ on them.

I'm startin' to like you "swim" :smirk:

I'll say it like this. Who gives 2 sh*t's how many points the Gates win by as far as the Vol
s go. They were going to get hammered by UF with anyone as head coach.

As a sorta casual observer of UT - I'll say I think Kiffin is moving the mindset where it should be.
They should not be afraid of anyone - IMO they were under Fulmer.

The dude is trying to inject life into a fairly dead program. I give him props for that.
Was he a bit boastful in proclaiming they'd beat UF? Yes.
But what big name HC isn't? Turban sure as hell does.

I'm saying I like what Lane is trying to do. He's unorthodox but so what.

I just think the "ooooo Turban will hang 100" isn't that big of a deal. They'd have done that with Fulmer as HC.

The big deal is because on national television Kiffin accused Urban Meyer of cheating and NCAA recruiting violations. Those are not playful "we are going to beat Florida and sing rocky top all night long" comments. That is a pretty legit accusation...which turns out was false and Kiffin looked even more like the enormous douche he actually is. So yes it will be a huge deal because Kiffin wrote a check this team most certainly can't cash. This week will be personal for the Gators and the Tennessee players will suffer for this one.

I remember a similar situation win Jim Tressell was introduced and he said they were going to beat Michigan...well he was dead on and his first year he beat Michigan and changed that Ohio State mindset of Michigan dominance. I think Tressell needs to get that original swagger back and quit the conservative garbage.

I know that post was all over the place but oh well.

All you have to do is walk on campus or look in the stands on game day sweater vests everywhere. The vest has come to represent something in Columbus, Ohio. Buckeye fans would probably protest if he stopped wearing them now.

Uh ok. I'm not gonna respond to this post as everyone here knows my thoughts on Turban.

I know you don't like Urban, but Kiffin rightfully deserves the absolute beating he's going to get. I hope they do run up the score; I'll love every single minute of it. I truly feel sorry for any UT fans that do show up this weekend in Gainesville. It's going to be a long and painful ride home...

Love him or hate him (Meyer), he's a fantastic football coach, J. What he's done with the UF program is amazing.

If they beat Florida I will sing Rocky Top all night long while wearing a Tennessee thong, and I'll film it and put it up on here for all to see. :booty:

the point spreads 31 pts!!! that is sick

Someone else who is almost as smug as Urban Meyer is Mark Richt. His team is going to get left wondering how we rolled up 500+ yards of offense on them.

Well.... we have to because our defense is more porous than swiss cheese.

Of course everyone here dissing Meyer would give their right nip to have him coaching their team to bring them out of mediocrity as Meyer has with UF. Nothing changed at UF except the coach - and 2 NC's in 3 years. If Meyer (and staff) was coaching Ohio State last week, USC would be crying all the way back to LA (I'm sure 'swim" and "bucknuts" would concur). Even my dad - a hard core PSU and Paterno maniac - has said hundreds of times "damn I hope someday we get a coach like Urban Meyer".

Please spare us the "glad we don't have Meyer BS". It just makes you look more jealous than you already are.

I know we would. Who do you think we were trying to get when they fired Willingham? I think it will happen anyway somewhere down the road.

I do too BH. If there would be one more stop for Meyer it would most certainly be ND.
Enjoy it if it happens!

Very true. Ohio State had their foot on USC's throat and simply took their foot off. Coaching a game not to lose will generally end in losing. Killer instinct is required. Everyone in the 'shoe and watching on tv rooting for Ohio State smelled blood and we simply just let them take the game. How many drives in USC territory ended in zero points. Makes me furious. I would love for my coach to hate the opponent every week.

Heard a rumor Texas A&M may have Tommy Tubberville be their next coach if this season is as disappointing as the last. That would be pretty intense.

Tubbys problems were recruiting and complacency. Well with no end in sight at Auburn, no surprise on number two but Texas A&M pulled a #7 recruiting class after a 4-8 season. Tubby would have that little extra bit that Auburn was missing at Texas A&M and Mack Brown would be stepping down within two years.

Meyer is a great coach, i will not argue that. On the same token, Joepa isnt only a great coach, but an icon. He coached the fathers and grandfathers of the players he has now.
The kids WANT to do better on the field, not just for themselves or the team, but merely being in the presence of an icon like joepa, makes them strive even harder. As a dedicated fan of the nittany lions, i often find myself disagreeing with Joe's ideologies: Only to be proven wrong. If meyer would happen to make a lifelong career out of leading the gators, we are talking "dynasty" for a long time.

Tubbs never competed for a recruiting title, but in-state against DuBose and Shula... he never had to. He was awesome at finding those diamonds in the rough. When Nick arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2007, Tuberville predictably lost a lot pull with in-state recruits. That may not have affected him negatively once he weathered the Saban storm, but the Tony Franklin debacle was a death sentence.

Not sure where you're getting your data about A&M's recruiting class. Rivals didn't list them in their top 20 for 2009. They're at #9 for 2010, but they're going to drop big-time by the time those rankings are finalized in the fall.

TAMU pursued him in 2007, and I'm sure he'd be on their short list if Sherman doesn't pan out. He was their DC for a year. However, I think Tubbs has had his eye on the Miami job.

Joepa isnt only a great coach, but an icon.

He's no Paul Bryant. In fact... he had an 0-4 record against "The Bear." That includes a Sugar Bowl for the National Championship. It also includes a 42-21 drubbing in Paterno's first championship season... their sole loss that year. Poor Joe Pa could never one-up Bryant when he was alive.

There's always the thought he'd go to Miami if Randy Shannon was let go. Tubs coached under Jimmy Johnson and said he loved his time.

I don't see that happening - Shannon will become a great HC one day.

Completely fair on your last point. He knows the South FLA talent.

Arkansas has the toughest road schedule in the history of football. That might be a bit of stretch, but how would you like to have your team take trips to Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss and LSU? Georgia is a must win tomorrow.

O and just for fun, how many points will Florida score on Tennessee tomorrow?

I say 56. Thoughts?

GT-Miami will be a high scoring game tonight. Last team with the ball wins.

I think the Canes win because of balance on O: Jacory and the myriad of WR's and Graig Cooper running the ball.

This will be a crucial game for the Miami defense. If GT runs all over them again, it might be demoralizing. On the other hand, if they can stop the run, they're set up for a nice shot at winning the ACC, because they have a QB who can take the offense down the field and make big plays. We'll see in a few minutes.:paranoid:

Ah, Hey guys, College Football Thread here.

I enjoy taking apart your pathetic alma maters' football aspirations but have no interest in your likewise pathetic sexual, or political orientation or your questionable heredity and patriotism which I find extremely compelling and persuasive but certainly off subject. : )

Well, staying on topic, I am wondering how you feel about all the band-wagon-jumping Gator fans that have suddenly emerged from the woodwork. I went to FSU and will continue to be a fan no matter how bad we stink. However, I find in nauseating that the Florida gators now have this giant mob following among uneducated, jean-short-wearing trash of all creeds. As Gator alum, how do you feel about this? Does it anger you that people who didn't even attend the university or even live in Gainesville for that matter are wearing the gear, attending the tailgates, and smudging the reputation of UF? Personally, I find it maddening to be surrounded by people that are all of a sudden Gator fans. I have no respect or patience for people who simply jump from one top dog to the next.

Welcome to my world brother. I can't stand it either. For ANY team. Especially here where I live. If LSU loses, I can count on my hand how many true fans still wear the colors. If a win happens, I wish I had .0000000001 pennies for how many wear the colors.
