2009 College Football Season

Gators make History....

From the AP 8/23/09...

NEW YORK — As Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators prepare to make a run at their third national title in the last four seasons, the defending champions have already made some history.

Florida is No. 1 in The Associated Press’ preseason Top 25 released Saturday, followed by Texas, Oklahoma, Southern California and Alabama. But the Gators are in a class by themselves, the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the media poll.

Florida received 58 of the 60 first-place votes, or 96.7 percent.

If the Gators can repeat, they will have put together one of the great runs in college football history. Only one program since 1950 can claim three national championships in four years; Nebraska won it all it 1994 and 1995, then earned a split title in 1997.

Just read that, according to Dr. Lou, your Gators will play Notre Dame in the title game. My reaction was similar to this:

Everyone knows he's a homer for us. That's nothing new. But, if we can go 11-1 this year, we couldbe playing Florida. It's a stretch, but our schedule is far more light than it has been. That helps too. It depends on how we gel, and improve. That has to happen first. Im not looking for a championship this year, even though it is welcome. I am looking for a BCS bowl win, and if we end up finding ourselves in the big one, so be it.

Florida is d@mn good, but they can be beaten. Anyone can be beaten by anyone. This is why I love college ball. Every game matters.

at first, i laughed at lou. but the more i thought about it, the have a chance (albeit slim) they will be the best team in the stadium on gameday, yes. (excepy usc game). texas and okla. big 12??? someone's gonna lose(okl st asa well) now, back to reality, if penn st or ohio st wheels fall off during the season and lose 2-3 games..then maybe i could see ND #2( its a stretch though)

Could you tutor one of my daughters?

Only if it's the one you posted pics of!

Actually, speaking of tutoring, looks like I won't be doing much of that this school year. My site's student population went from approx. 460 students down to approx. 360. I might have to sell heroin to my 6th graders just to make ends meet.:cop:

Hey on ESPN.com college Pick 'em I created a group called AnabolicMinds.com ... Come join up ...

Okay, I'm all joined up. C'mon everybody, don't leave h0other and I in there all alone. Just a Bama fan and an Auburn enthusiast... it could get ugly! Only took like 30 seconds to sign up, so GET IN THERE.

Trauma, OG, jmh (if you're still around!), bolt10, Gator Alum, copycat, Sir Savage, BabyHulk, texaswolf, AFOX, TexasTitan (you pissy mutherphucker!), BUCKNUTS, plenny (you cold-weather Nittany son of a biatch!)... sign up and start thinking about your Week 1 picks!!!

If it's a question of sheer laziness, here's the link:

its an embarassment to Florida and the ncaa to give the "national champs" a gravy schedule so that a repeat nat'l championship is inevitable...

Do you say things like this just to stir up the pot... or are you on some kind of repeat mode???

plenny... they play in the SEC. Actually, I should stop there... but I'll go on. They have a decent in-state out-of-conference rival. They would have to play in a... get this... conference championship! My final point to a Penn State fan would be to say, "Hey pot, this is the kettle... you're blacker!"

Why do I always fall for your little set-ups? Why I oughtta...

they play in the sec??? florida is to the sec as penn state is to the big 10. alabama is to the sec as ohio state is to the big 10. other than those teams mentioned, the rest of both conferences are "weak". seriously man, all of floridas pansy ass OCC games are at home too boot. Seems like even the NCAA is a slave to the government.

My final point to an SEC fan is that the united states does extend north of I-70

So LSU, a team who throttled the Big Ten champs for the national title season before last... is weak? Georgia... Ole Miss...

I'll guarantee you a team like South Carolina would trounce 8 out of 11 squads in the Big Ten.

plenny, I'm gonna tell you a little story. Every year, I assign my 5th grade students a state report. It's a traditional culmination to the end of a school year where American history is the primary focus for social studies. The kids present their reports to the class and we have a lot of fun with the project. I have them bring in artifacts for their presentations... something that represents a "big idea or event" in their assigned state's history. In my first year, the students presented some really cool things to their classmates: rare minerals, photocopies of crucial documents, portraits of important contributors to society, etc. etc. Well plenny, do you know what the kid who was assigned Pennsylvania brought in for an artifact? Any idea?

A Hershey bar. A phucking Hershey bar, plenny.

Before you assume the boy was retarded, I'll tell you the kid had a well-written report, with correct grammar and appropriate grade-level vocabulary. He clearly had rehearsed his presentation. I just looked at him like, "WTF?" The boy saw my disappointment and responded to it with, "Well, what did you expect, Mr. ______... you assigned me goddamned Pennsylvania?!"

I gave him an A-.

Superior to who? Dude... his family are Norteños. I would've let him pimp his female classmates and sell drugs if he wanted to.

I'm in. It was difficult for me though, my screenname was already taken, ESPN finally steered me towards Bucknuts66. Then I was torn between the AM group and the ohio state fans group.

Dont worry, no one thought you were his supierior. :bling:

What's up,TT? You ready for the season to start? I feel like you've been preparing for the past several weeks... like a more verbal version of the Rocky training scenes. I picture the finale consisting of you confronting a guy wearing an Sooner t-shirt on the steps of the Texas State Capitol, and without showing any facial expression, giving him a statistical rundown of why Texas will destroy them, complete with insulting tone. Then, you run to the top of the steps as your theme music crescendos... "Gonna fly now... Gonna fly now!"

Wait... that building does have steps, right?... Don't tell me. I don't want to have to re-cut the scene.

Hey gator, check out the new M&F...got a good article on Florida's weight program. Interesting things in there.

P.S. Don't look at the cover!:147:

rubbering what the hell is that in your avatar? Cal Golden Bears? You are a Bama guy that's blasphemous! That's like cheating on your wife, shame on you!

It does, not on par with that building in Rocky though.

I wouldnt give him a verbal rundown, Id give him a physical beatdown. Youve been in cali too long to appreciate the rivalries of the south. Good day to you sir. I have been extremely ready for football season to begin though. Its an itch that needs to be scratched. Life without football is as empty as life without sex.

LOL... it's just temporary. I make comments in political threads, and it really seems to piss off the ultra-conservatives! I went to school at Berkeley for a year to get my credential, and I go to their home games. I'm a Bama fan first and foremost, no doubt about it. I rag on my Pac-10 lovin' friends all the time about how the football culture (or lack thereof) out here pales in comparison to what they'd find in the midwest, southwest, and southeast.

I am looking forward to the USC game though. Ber-zerkeley is a fun place on Saturdays!:240: (I'm sure TT will throw up a lil' in his mouth when he sees this.)

Btw... what's up with Herbstreit picking Penn State to win the conference???

WTF? Anybody see this yet?Invalid Link Removed

If they don't want him...we could use him. Nothing wrong with some blood, sweat and tears.

My first inclination was to agree with you... but I don't know. The guy actually sounds like an extremist d#ckhead. If last year's Wolverine team was a result of his regimen, a completely unphysical 3-9 mess following 40 straight winning seasons, then it's a crock. Toledo, Northwestern, and Illinois beat them up on both sides of the ball. And don't even try to tell me Lloyd Carr left the cabinet empty as far as linemen.

Rodriguez and his staff will be run out of town in two years. Then Ann Arbor will look to Les Miles to be their savior.

Yeah, Im sure assless chaps run for miles in Berekly. Berekly and football go together like hyper-progressives and the real world.

My in-laws live in Los Angeles and I'm forever ragging on my wife's brothers about how LA sports fans suck (they really do) and how they need not try to compare USC vs UCLA to Ohio State vs Michigan or Alabama vs Auburn because there is no comparison.
Herbie is determined to show everyone that he isn't a homer so he always picks against Ohio State, I used to like that guy.

Yeah, Im sure assless chaps run for miles in Berekly. Berekly and football go together like hyper-progressives and the real world.

Where's Berekly?

Leave it to you to find a way to bring homoerotic images to a football thread. Not the first time, either. A bit pathological. But hey man, screw it... express yourself. I say "Come out, come out, wherever you are." Even if it's Texas.

they play in the sec??? florida is to the sec as penn state is to the big 10. alabama is to the sec as ohio state is to the big 10. other than those teams mentioned, the rest of both conferences are "weak".

Given the importance of bowl games, a logical question is – which conference has the most all-time college football bowl victories?

Good question. And, we have the answer.

You will probably not be surprised to find that – the Southeastern Conference (SEC) has the top college football bowl record.

So, here is the bowl game record (through 2008-2009) of the major college football conferences (based on historical conference affiliation). The first number is total bowl games. The second is wins; third is losses; fourth is ties; fifth is bowl game win percentage.

Bowls Wins Losses Ties Win %
SEC 348 190 149 9 .559
Pac-10 193 103 88 2 .539
Big Ten 209 97 111 1 .467
ACC 166 81 83 2 .494
Big 8 127 63 63 1 .500
Southwest 151 63 80 8 .444
Big 12 92 45 47 0 .489
Big East 76 42 34 0 .553
WAC 101 42 58 1 .421

SEC -vs- Big10 from 1999-2008

LSU-2-1
Bama 0-2
Ole Miss 0-0
MSU 0-0
KY-5-3
FL- 2-4
GA-5-0
Vandy- 0-1
SC-2-1
Ark-0-3
UT-2-1
AUB-4-2

SEC- 22
Big10- 18

SEC is 12-5 in BCS games
Big 10 is 8-11 in BCS games

SEC has 5 BCS Championships
Big10 has 1 BCS Championships

As you can see from the chart, the SEC basically dominates the field as the #1 all-time top bowl conference. The Southeastern Conference has more bowl wins and a higher winning percentage than anyone else. And, it really isn't even close.

So LSU, a team who throttled the Big Ten champs for the national title season before last... is weak? Georgia... Ole Miss...

I'll guarantee you a team like South Carolina would trounce 8 out of 11 squads in the Big Ten.

Some Big Ten fans close there eyes to the truth. SEC and Pac 10 both have a better overall winning pct. in head to head match ups in the bowls then the Big Ten.

You're preaching to the choir. I quoted those exact stats in the 2008 thread. But plenny isn't interested in just stats... he's interested in "cold-weather stats." Got any of those handy?

Btw, if you're going to join the smack talk, you might wanna browse through this thread and last season's... and it would help if you told us which team you support.

Don't say Auburn.:paranoid:

I am from south Louisiana, so LSU of course!

Yea I need to catch up on the past smack talk, but when I read his comments about Bama and Flordia the only two real teams from the SEC. It got my started. How could anyone in their right mind say SEC isnt the dominant conference in football...SEC football is a powerhouse...no other conference has half the balls of the SEC...not saying there aren't quite a few teams that cant hang with SEC teams but conference vs. conference, there isnt even a discussion.

By the way I think Cal take the Pac 10 this year.

The SEC teams dont have to play up north because they typically play in the better bowl games. Fans want to watch a game in nice warm weather, not the miserable cold weather yall have up there. Its all about the money and not the game these days. You have to play were you will make the most money and that is down south.
