PRIME and Kidney Function

Pace2

New member
Could PRIME effect Kidney Function in anyway? I've been using PRIME and have some slightly elevated BUN, Creatinine and Potassium levels and a low GFR

BUN 23 Range 8-22
Creatinine 1.4 Range .6-1.3
Potassium 5.2 Range 3.5-5.1
GFR, Estimated 59 Rnage >60

Has anyone else had bloodwork done while on PRIME? Any thoughts?

im glad someone has done some bloodwork...i jsut started but dont have health insur...so bloodwork is waaay to expensive.....

Are you also on Creatine supplements and took them within the past say 12-24 hours of the test? Also how was your hydration, and did you have the tests repeated? Also some populations have non-symptomatic low eGFRs . Do you have the rest of our bloodwork?

But herbals in general haven't gone through rigorous safety and toxicology studies that drugs are subjected to, and so I do believe some herbs out there may actually be harmful/toxic to our bodies in certain doses (Not suggesting or implying that Tribulus Aquaticus is one of these)

The rest of the BMP came back within normal ranges. I do supplement with Creatine on lifting days, so that would have been within 24 hours of the draw. The GFR is what worries me as this generic reading shows "moderate" damage according to the kidney foundation but is purely based on creatinine and age. I'm 42 and the formula penalizes age, which I would assume is because of loss of muscles mass. I'm pretty muscular and on TRT, so this may be part of the problem with GFR because it is geared toward a "generic, non lifting, non TRT" patient. I'm following up with my doctor on Tuesday

I've shown moderate renal failure once after taking blood a few hours after a creatine dose. They urgently rescheduled me again for the next day, no creatine, no problem :) Just get another bloodtest done, be well hydrated, try and take the day off from lifting and no creatine beforehand. PM me if I miss the followup results or if you have any Qs.

Hey Pace,

The Toxicology reports on Tribulus-genus seed powders do not list renal impairment as a major pharmacological effect, but; as Steve said, this most likely has not been studied sufficiently enough!

This being said, and as Steveo mentioned, Creatinine, and by extension eGFR readings, can be notoriously variable depending on activity level, diet, and so on - as well, and as you mentioned, your race and age coupled with a diet/supplementation induced high Cr levels may have resulted in a higher-than-normal eGFR.

A question: was your eGFR calculated with plasma Creatinine levels only, or did they test for Creatinine Clearance as well?

I'm sure it was plasma, but I'm meeting with my dr today. Thanks for the insights

Okay, well you could request a Creatinine Clearance test as well, as that is sometimes used to calculate the eGFR reading. Because Creatinine is not reabsorbed and filtered freely, an artificially-raised Creatinine level may cause a falsely-high eGFR reading. A Creatinine Clearance reading, on the other hand, is more indicative of kidney function and Urodynamics.

Thanks for the insights-i meet with my dr today and I will ask, but I'm pretty sure it was just plasma as it was part of th basic metobolic profile blood test.
