BJJ Log

Exactly my point of the blog. Otherwise I'd just forget Everything hehe.

Today:
Self defense techniques vs. a wild right hook:
-To take down-duck, pull on his hips while stepping forward and pushing w/ your head.
-To standing choke (arm inside)-duck under punching arm, put your nearest arm up his armpit and over to his neck. Either connect that hand to your other hands bicep while your other hand's gripping the back of your head or just do any grip. From here you can take him down too. Maintain Balance.

Techniques:
Sweep from de la riva guard- De la riva guard = your arms grabbing his sleeves/wrist, your left leg outside and twisting into and hooking into his thigh; your right leg on his hip.

-From the position, scoot a bit to the left and your left hand grabs his ankle. You now simultaneously pull with your right arm on his left arm while your right leg pushes his left leg backwards and sweep to the right. If he drops to one knee, push that knee out w/ your leg. If he tries to stack, flip him over you w/ any butterfly type sweep.

To pass the de la riva guard, try to get the leg on your hip in to go near his other leg or get your left arm out of his control, spin and go for straight knee bar.

Notes:
Rolled w/ just one guy today a 5 striped white belt. Nobody tapped nobody. Many positions were established and lost. Got swept a few times, escaped a few times. Couldn't finish when I landed in cross side several times. Went north-south, couldn't finish the kimura (practice this...)Pretty even.

Supplements:
Pre - NO pills, energy drink (small,) 11.5g BCAAs
Post - 11.5g+ BCAAs, Chinese food combo hehehe

awesome moves flobot!

Ok, first session back.

Very, very light training tonight.

Techniques:
-Guard Break #1 (But w/ excessive detail like making a hump w/ your back etc.) w/ gi.
-Guard Break #2 w/ no gi.

Drills:
Breakfalls and arm bar drill from the guard (left/right.)

Supplements:
Pre-Tea
Post-BCAAs

No sparring tonight Grr.

Don't be making up your own terms. Next thing you know, you'll call an armbar an "elbow crank."

Emerge: I can call it whatever I want to call it.

Forgot to post yesterday's session.

No techniques but brutal "warm up" and then continuous rolling with a boxing sparring timer/bell in 5 minute rounds.

I went a total of five rounds. Four w/ white belts (2 w/ no gi on..) and one with our black belt. I guess I did OK w/ the black belt because I even rolled out of a kimura.

(But then got dominated in side control for the last quarter of the round..)

Overall a good session, CARDIO still being the big issue.

Edit: I estimate the BB was going at it w/ me at 50% or less. Looks like he wanted to see if I can escape his side control (which I couldn't argh.)
Edit #2: Grappling w/ people who have no gi is a good challenge. You should always grapple w/ a gi regardless of who you're rolling with because it's not Your loss, it's his. When you finally take that gi off you'll be surprised how easy it is to squirm away from everything.

good job flobot..btw!..if i remember correctly your part filippino right?

Like Brian Villoria right? But he had a series of tough losses. They threw him in the shark tank after he won the championship belt which's kinda sad.

Pacman makes me proud to be Filipino however. That guy's amazing. You think he'll eventually get to fight Mayweather? I've no doubt in my mind that he'll manhandle Ricky Hatton.

Emerge: Thanks man, do you do BJJ too?
here in hawaii, alot of filipinos excel in boxing!..good job with this log flobot, its really interesting and informative!

Yep, year and a half now. Earned my blue belt this last summer. I plan on competing a lot this year. My black belt is Marcos Torregrosa he is speculated to be in top 10 lightweights in the world. He has some videos on youtube. Cool dude.

Ayt gonna search for him. Our black belt's Trevor Clarkson (Team Megaton.) I don't think he competes anymore though.

We've an awesome purple belt though by the name of Brijon hehe that guy's gonna be a star someday if it doesn't take him too long to get to black belt.

Dennis Kang's school is also a few kms away hehe (I'm in Vancouver.)

That's cool. I'll check him out. I had the pleasure of rolling with the junior blue belt #1 in the world. He basically toyed with me. First time anyone used the inverted guard on me. It was ridiculous.

Techniques today:

1.) Arm-in choke from sprawl to:
-Guard
-Roll to the side
-Just pressing down into the ground

2.) Escape from back mount (technique from a Saulo Ribeiro book)
-Block choke by having one hand on one of your lapels and the other fighting his other hand.
-Turn so that he's on the mat
-Sink down and pull your hips forward and away from him (using your posted feet)
-Kick out one of your legs from one of his hooks
-Swing the free leg over as tightly as possible to the trapped leg side and drive him backward.
You end up in his half-guard if done perfectly or at the very least his guard. Take care that he doesn't roll w/ you and ends up on your back Again.

Rolled w/ my 4-striped blue belt partner. He tapped me out 3 times all w/ some kind of choke. Kept getting swept somehow, always when I'm 90% through his Open Guard. I'm missing some crucial part of passing and I should remember not to have my head too low and vulnerable during.

Supplements:
Pre - Coffee & 2 caps Methyl 1-D just to try it out. This was actually good for BJJ. I never got tired during rolling which's usually not the case even w/ caffeine.
Post - Energy drink & Lunch

Techniques today:

"X" guard pass:
-Open his guard or do inside his open guard.
-Stand up w/ right hand on his left lapel chest area and your right hand on his right leg near the knee on the outer side. Keep left elbow close to your thigh.
-Kick out your right leg while swinging his whole body counter clockwise from your view.
-End with your right knee on his belly with your other hand still clutching the outside of his near leg. (Your hands will look crossed with your left underneath.)
-Seems unstable at first but becomes more and more stable w/ practice.

If he grabs hold of your right ankle while trying to do this pass:
-Switch left hand to inner side of his right leg near the knee and stiffen your arm, keep his legs spread and preventing him from rolling over or taking your back.
-Face your right foot out while putting your weight on his left thigh area. This will be painful for him. While doing this your right hand should've moved to under his neck in preparation for cross side.
-Drive your right knee through and sit out and then switch your legs to cross-side.

Rolled just a little today. Got a few sweeps, nothing spectacular. Didn't tap anybody. Worked a lot on North-South position and kimura from that position. Also worked extra time on escaping cross-side and mount.

Cardio's way up, didn't get tired at all today.

Supplements:
Pre - generic NO pills and 1 methyl 1-d.
Post - Glutamine, McDonald's.

I haven't I'll check it out sometime.

Didn't go to BJJ all this week and last week. Went boxing Wednesday however.

All I learned from that is that I was rusty. I was vulnerable to the uppercut but was otherwise fine.

1 - Jab to Stomach
2 - Cross to face

..Works very well against taller opponents.

I'm keeping up w/ sparring w/ bigger and heavier opponents. If I can take punches from 220 pounders without headgear then anybody lighter is no problem.

Reminders: Bring Vaseline next time to avoid scuff marks.
