CDK questions...

Post Workout shake is the best time to have one, especially on a CKD, it helps keep away from muscular atrpohy. Just beware of the carbs in your protein. Im stuck with a protein with 11g carbs until my other one gets here :(

I read not to eat nitrites while on the keto diet, or basically ever. So what type of bacon and sausage does everyone buy? All the packaged stuff in the stores have nitrites and I really want some bacon!

hereis another question.. what are the signs of ketosis and how long after a carb day does one typically experience these signs??

I have heard about the urine smelling awful and getting bad breath and stinky sweat and of course the peeing on the ketone strips. are there anymore signs to tell if your in ketosis?? and how long after carb day should you be slipping back into it

also.. I am tryna figure out my macros, the AD book says ur bodyweight x 18 equals ur maintence, and to loose weight should cut 500 off that and try for a week and just make sure u loose 1-2 pds that week no more no less..

so 210 x 18 = 3780 and subtract 500 = 3280, So I rounded to 3200 calories.

Okay thats cool that was about where I was eating, now the books goes on to state ur percents that diet should be. During the week carbs are 5-8%, fat is 55-60% and protein is 30-35%

okay so if you take those percentages it should be roughly 1760-1920 cal from fat, 960-1120 calories from protein and 160-256 calories from carbs

now I googled how many calories are ina gram of each macro and got:
carbohydrate - 4 calories
protein - 4 calories
fat - 9 calories
and it said not exact as it does vary but generally this is true

so using those numbers it would be 196-213g fat, 240-280g protein and 40-64g carbs.. now the carbs I am not worried about cuz It says to keep it under or around 30g so thats has been my goal..but as for the rest of the numbers, did I do this right and does it look good??

Some other ones
Headaches
Constipation
Looks muscularly flat (which is what happens when glycogen levels drop too much)
A big drop in weight on the scale (ketosis is dieuretic in that nature when it comes to water weight)
Bad smelling breath
Fruity smelling breath
Bad smelling sweat
Bad smelling urine
Low appetite
Feeling fatigued when you start
Rush of energy days you are in ketosis

how long after my last carb day should it take to get back into ketosis? or is it case by case type thing?

Typically around 1-3 days, alot of factors, how your body reacts, how much weightlifting/exercise you do, how many carbs you ingest while on your low carb portion, etc.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever enter ketosis...I'm midway through day 4...havent had more than 20 carbs a day, and no direct carbs. I feel fine. I've had some diarrhea and stomach rumblings (no pain though), but no headache or anything like the horror stories. I can say I've been drinking MUCH more water than I usually do.

Also, I'm a big guy 6' 275lbs...prob about 25% bf, yet I can only force myself to eat about 3000 calories/day right now. I know most of the diets say to eat more...but it feels like a gorge-fest the way it is. Do y'all think this will be a problem?

Drinking lots of water (I do the same thing) dilutes the Keto-stix, so it may appear that you are not when you really are....do you have a blood sugar monitor?

i have acess to a blood sugar monitor ( i work in a hospital) how will this help tell if I am in ketosis or not?

I really should go look this up again, BUT from what I can remember from Lyle M. and the book Bodyopus; blood glucose should be around 50-60 mg/dl to stay in Ketosis.

This is why GDAs (glucose disposal agents) such as Vandyl Sulfate, or anything that helps insulin sensitivity such as Magnesium or Chromium (helps insulin) help speed up the proccess to enter Ketosis.

Are they found in any particular foods, or do you just have to take them in a pill form?

Probably be best to take them in pill form. I used vanadyl sulfate a while ago, and it caused big drops in blood sugar. I would suggest just taking chromium as an all around good supplement (not just for CKD).

The blood sugar supplements help with the carb up also.

I do not...I've been considering it, but I'm really laying off the extra expenses right now...(Closing on a house this weekend + 60k worth of student loans). I'll look into it more though.
