TENNESSEE SUCKS!!!!!......That is all.

Damn, you could cut the tension with a knife in here today. Maybe i just see it more because i didn't drink today. I hope you boys had enough for me then!

I offered one of the Miami QB's to the Vols for 2 years of Eric Berry.

I think that's a fair trade. They get 3 years of a good/maybe great QB, when they have 2 terrible jokesters there now.
We'd get Berry and have him for '09, safety is the one position I don't know whom the big time freshman is. None have shown many flashes.

UT's biggest problem is QB, I think. Can't pass, so Bama was putting 8 guys in the box.

Hey man... seriously... props to you for a classy response to my pissy post. Sometimes I forget that the "tone" of a forum post is hard to perceive. I edited it after re-reading it.

I'm just talkin' smack. Cheers, man! :drunk:

I've been here 4 and a half years or so. I've forgotten more insults and stuff on this forum than you'll ever remember.

I hear ya! I gotta tell you, this has been a great outlet for me. I'm letting it all out! Being an Alabama fan has not been a lot of fun in the last decade. Five coaches (if you count Price) and NCAA sanctions, not to mention six consecutive losses to Auburn and being embarrassed by Louisiana-Monroe, has been a test of my allegiance. I know I talk a lot of sh#t on here, but I honestly did not predict that Saban would turn around the program this quickly. I thought they'd be 5-3 at this point, and 6-2 at best. No way I saw 8-0. So many young players, and so many crucial road games (Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee). I didn't see this coming. As far as I'm concerned, this season is already a success for a team that finished 6-6 in the regular season last year. That being said, I'm not content. Bama needs to shake the LSU demon, and they have to... I repeat, HAVE TO... beat Auburn. Yeah I know, Auburn looks like crap. Yeah... doesn't matter. That rivalry goes WAY beyond records (just ask Bill Curry).

I'm absolutely giddy about the Tide's future at this point. I can't remember the last time I was this genuinely optimistic on the subject. This was supposed to be another rebuilding year. The DuBose/Shula years were tough. It's nice to remember what it's like to pull for a team that hits people in the mouth and remembers the tradition they represent (cue the Lee Greenwood music). Hey, say what you want about Bama this year. They're not pretty, and they definitely have weaknesses, but I highly doubt you'd want to see them play their best game against your team.

So, now that I've said this... you might wanna take Arkansas State and the points next week (not kidding). :o

In summary and in closing... college football rules.:head:

holy ****, i think i had enough for all of us. i had to go back and re-read everything from last night including my own posts.

Trauma---next week's game is really shaping up. I never expected UGA to put up 52 on LSU. The Texas -- Texas Tech game should be good also. I hated seeing PSU win such a crappy game last night, now they'll wind up in the BCS and get spanked by a good team. Anyway, that's pretty much my input on the weekend......

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!

It's going to be a hell of a game, J!

I said that Oklahoma State would give them a game. McCoy's numbers were just INSANE though.

I hope the Cowboys don't drop too far in the rankings. They shouldn't. I still think they're better than Texas Tech. I'm not saying that Tech isn't capable of pulling a major upset next week... but they won't run the table against Texas, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma.

Serious offense this week in college football.

texas tech scares the **** out of me they have all yr they do every yr. they are the bastards of texas no one likes unless ur int he pan handle so every yr they play with a chip because in texas your either a longhorn or a faggie.

our schedule has been downright insane the worst ive ever seen in recent years.

i wanted to see PSU or bama lose yesterday just so the whining wont commence when an undefeated team is sitting home on NC night

however. PSU has a cake walk the rest of the yr. If we get by Tech we will run the table. and who does bama have left? the SEC is straight suspect this yr so they will run it too I think

its gonna be an interesting november

The SEC is suspect, huh? You're right, it's a "down year" for the conference... 'cause they only have three teams in the top 10! Look, I agree with you on Texas' schedule. They are deserving of all the accolades, but the emergence of the Big 12 does not mean the SEC is exactly weak. Tennessee's been going downhill for a few years now, and Auburn screwed themselves by trying to convert to the spread offense without the athletes to run it. LSU had to have a rebuilding year sooner or later. But just as soon as those teams went downhill, Alabama (not ranked preseason), Florida (no one in the country wants to play them), and Georgia (it's clicking for 'em now) have picked up the slack. And I guarantee you... no one like Boise State, Utah, or Tulsa wants anything to do with the SEC's "middle-of-the-pack" teams like Ole Miss, South Carolina, or Auburn.

The only difference this year is that the SEC finally has some competition in the form of the Big 12. Hopefully, it will last. Right now though, it's two national championships and counting for the suspect SEC. :trout:

Agree on the Red Raiders. You never know what Leach will do. And he's got a battle tested QB and Crabtree - best WR in the country, IMO. Didn't they beat y'all last year or the year before?? I think it was '06 but maybe I'm wrong. I know they got a big win over Texas in the recent past.

Will be a flipping shootout. Can't wait to watch TxTech-Texas, should be a barn burner.

The Iron Bowl looks like a serious trap game for a #2 team. Don't neva neva count out a Tubs team in that rivalry. But I think the rest of the country will. That's as dangerous of a game that I've seen.

I know Auburn has looked bad, but they have 6 wins in a row against the Tide.

Agree that I'm surprised at this season for the Tide. Thought they'd have 2 losses by this point also. But I thought you guys would beat LSU. I'm not impressed with them - weren't in the pre-season.

Am curious what you guys look like next year with a new QB. I wouldn't discount the progression Wilson has made this year. He's over shadowed by the likes of McCoy (who's been flat out un-real) and the rest of the Big 12 and Tebow this year. But I really really like what he's become at QB.

I thought balls for whatever RPN sh*t he had.

Well they are having a much better year due to the QB's they have. But the Big 12 north doesn't impress this year. Kansas - lost to USF (blah). Mizzou - sunk big time. KState - good offense but seriously no D.

Whomever wins the South is guaranteed the BCS game.

Looks like Bama pretty much has to win out to play the Big 12 champ. If there is any stumble - it'll be PSU.

Now - if the Big 12 south champ gets beat and Bama gets beat, then it gets really interesting.
Does the SEC champ (UF/UGa I presume) get in over the other Big 12 south team (presume OU) or USC? (To play PSU, that is.)

The Iron Bowl won't be a trap game because I promise you - a state championship in Alabama is the THE most important one (as illogical as that might sound). While Bama definitely won't overlook Auburn, it will be a tight game either way. Every Iron Bowl is. It's a completely smash-mouth affair. Auburn has the psychological edge, for sure.

As for Wilson, I don't exactly share your perspective. The Tide's new offensive coordinator (McElwain, from Fresno State) has turned Wilson into a "game manager," so to speak. He doesn't have to try to win games for them anymore (which basically led to him giving games away last year). Thank God for that. Except for the Arkansas game last year, Wilson was a deer in headlights when Bama was behind or had a slight lead. My biggest concern with this year's squad is that they've never been behind. If/when they find themselves in a hole... Wilson will have to step up. What happens then? We'll see.

Greg McElroy will be the starter next year. He replaced Chase Daniel in high school (somewhere in Texas). From all accounts, he's exactly what Saban desires at QB. I know a major reason Julio Jones committed to Alabama is that the Tide is planning to air it out a bit more in the future. McElroy, unlike Wilson, exudes confidence on the field. He, along with Julio and Cody, typify the new attitude in Tuscaloosa. Instead of hoping to be in games, they now expect to win games.

Man, in the back of my mind... I keep thinking we're headed for a USC beatdown of Penn State. Neither team will have played in six weeks, and neither will really deserve to be there, but we'll be forced to accept it. I'm praying Cal can somehow pull out a win against the Trojans this year. If a team like Iowa can upset Penn State (which looks w-a-y more of a possibility after yesterday), and Texas falls to Tech, and then Tech loses to Oklahoma, and Florida stumbles against Georgia, but then Georgia falls to Auburn, leading to the Gators squeaking by Bama in the SEC title game... then we'll have a huge mess in the BCS by season's end!!!! :fool2::fool2::fool2:

Just checked out the BCS site (bcsfootball.org) and saw the following propaganda on their main page under "BCS News":

• Playoff (already) taking place right now
• Officials: BCS too healthy to change
• No desire to see BCS format grow
• Playoff smayoff! We don't need it

Yeah, they definitely have all their facts straight over there at BCS Central:

"The BCS title talk will continue to follow No. 3 Penn State after the Nittany Lions pulled out a 10-3 victory over No. 10 Ohio State on the road Saturday."

Makes me ill. I can definitely see the Fox/Rupert Murdoch connection now... no truth.

Didn't you and Traum have a bet on the Cocktail Party???

I thought balls for whatever RPN sh*t he had.

Yup, haven't forgotten the bet. I'll be honest though, that UF offense is a concern. I don't think UF has played an offense like UGA's this year yet though. Should be interesting. I"m sure all the experts will pick UF though.

All that is certainly possible. I won't be surprised at anything.

I'm predicting a 4 or 5 loss ACC team in the BCS with the parity in our conference.

Outstanding article on Penn State by Tom Dienhart (sorry plenny):
Invalid Link Removed

Here's an excerpt:

"So, please, don't give us Penn State on Jan. 8, 2009, in Dolphin Stadium. Give us life, give us liberty, give us hope for a good game. That means give us Texas, Florida, Alabama, Georgia or USC. Heck, we'll even take Texas Tech and its diabolical offense and kooky coach. They all have been more impressive than – and likely would beat – any Big Ten team.

Even a perfect Penn State.

We pray that America won't have to watch another Big Ten belly-flop in the BCS title game. The Buckeyes have perfected that dive the past two seasons."

You mean... it's not just us? :clap2:

Great article.....and SOOOO true! :clap2:

It's perhaps that sentiment that may well relegate PSU to 3rd in the polls behind a 1 loss SEC or Big 12 team (or USC).

I believe he's not the only person with that sentiment.

Big 11 fans can tout the other bowl wins they've had the last 2 years, but they can NOT deny they've fallen on their face in the 2 big games (championship and Rose Bowl) in '06 AND '07.

anyone watching the tulsa/ucf shootout?

I read an article the other day where the Tulsa coach said the BCS is giving his team a raw deal. What a joke! Well, mighty Central Florida held their #1 offense (yeah, right) to 14 points in the first half.

Look, I like watching all college football, but Christ... sometimes I just wish coaches and schools would accept their true place in the whole scheme of things. No one in America thinks Tulsa or Ball State is a legitimate threat to beat another top 15 team. I mean, it's wonderful that they're having great seasons and all, but give me a break.

Hell, I guess it's really not their fault. Perhaps it's these miserable polls and lousy BCS system. I mean, what are these coaches supposed to say? They want talent to come to their schools.

After barely scraping by Arizona last night, how in the hell is USC still #5 in the BCS standings??? No way Oklahoma State, Florida, Georgia, or even Texas Tech should be behind the Trojans. I thought for sure they'd move down, especially after lopsided wins by Tech/Georgia/Florida, and Ohio State getting beat.

:wtf:

I'm starting to think it's become a coaching popularity contest at the top. I like Pete Carroll and all, but other coaches l-o-v-e the guy. Same for Joe Pa. Meanwhile, Urban and Nick get NO love from other coaches. Bama's slipping in the polls, and Florida is just getting shafted at the moment. There's always disparity between the AP and coaches' polls... and it never does Bama or Florida any favors. The Tide got zero #1 votes in the coaches' poll... and PSU got three, after that anemic performance in Columbus. WTF?

Call me Mulder, I guess.

What say you, Trauma... I mean Scully? :D

They had the fortune of losing early, earlier than the Gators.

At this point, the rest of the teams should just worry about winning. UF, UGa, and Bama all seem very likely to control their own destiny.
PSU can't control that their schedule the rest of the way sucks. Same for USC.

I do think the SC's SOS will begin to march down week after week because they have no one left.

"anemic performance"....no, its big 10 football..defense and power running and yes there is 4.5 speed in the big10..it just isnt utilized all the time. btw speed doesnt win games..it helps but you need toughness and smarts. im sick of this "southern speed" crap.

4.5 is slow in the SEC.

And yeah, speed definitely helps win ball games. Just ask your "conference champ" of the past two years.

Like I said, the Big Ten needs to work much harder at recruiting talent out of the south. "Midwest style" football is too old school.

Agreed. You stated the point far more politely than I would have!

i really wouldn't want to see too much recruitment out of the south for the simple fact that they will crack when the temperature drops below 50F. yes, our conference champs choked twice in the big dance because of the "6 week layover"..IMO. what about the OTHERbowl games..michigan over florida..penn state over tennesse..just to name a few????

Why so much hate on the Big 10, only thing SEC has on the Big 10 is that the south is football dominated so yes they get better recruits.

Do you even know where Brett Favre went to college? I can think of about 473,285 other examples, if pressed. Seriously plenny, that has to be the lamest attempt at making a valid point I've seen in this thread. C'mon man!

As far as SEC vs. Big Ten, the SEC won 2 out of 3 bowl game match-ups last year, including the game that mattered most. But, here's the real bottom line:

The SEC leads the Big Ten with a 65-46-2 all-time record.

The SEC has a .584 winning percentage versus the Big Ten.

SEC teams are 33-20 vs the Big Ten in bowl games from 1930 to 2007.

Now... shuddup.

Why so much hate on the Big 10, only thing SEC has on the Big 10 is that the south is football dominated so yes they get better recruits.

So... SEC football is better... 'cause they have better players. Hmmm... won't get any argument from me on that! (Wtf?)

No one here hates the conference... it has its place. We just hate the fact that we're forced year after year to watch the Big Ten's best get slaughtered in meaningful games, while its own commish single-handedly keeps a playoff from happening. What adds insult to injury is that there are delusional fans out there (cough... plenny... cough) who think their Big Ten team compares to the best from the SEC or Big 12, even though it's painfully obvious to most (including the national sports media) that this just isn't the case.

But hey... look at it this way: You guys own fencing and wrestling!

I agree with you, and i know they have choked, but there is no way you can say Michigan or Ohio State hasnt had good teams the last couple years.

Personally, at this point, i really hope we get to see another lame big 10 team get slaughtered by the SEC in the championship game. I'm so tired of hearing their fans talk up some laugable sh*t. Let them see yet again why the SEC owns their azz when it counts. I know we're personally VERY tired of seeing it, but apparently, they just don't get it yet.

I sincerely hope florida gets the chance to play PSU, and FU*KING ANNHILATE THEM in the championship game!!!!

Alright man, to each there own, im not here to argue specially over college football, i just think that ohio state and michigan have solid football programs.

I'm being facetious, of course. They deserve credit... but I just think the Big Ten gets too much credit due to accomplishments from a distant time.

Agree to disagree.

The top 2, maybe 3, teams in the Big 10 do NOT measure up to the top of the SEC and Pac 10 (specifically USC).

Further down in the conference, they do. That plays out in the bowl games.

But who gives a flip if the Capital One is a good bowl game (except the 2 teams playing).

I would replace "Pac-10" with "Big 12" in your first statement. Besides USC, the Pac-10 is garbage.

Yeah, I support Cal... but the Pac-10's pretty lame this year. I will agree with jmh80 that from top to bottom (not including Washington State), the Pac-10 is still ahead of the Big Ten. Before plenny jumps in and reminds us of Penn State's win over Oregon State for the umpteenth time, let me clarify that I'm talking #1 vs. #1 (USC vs. Penn State), #2 vs. #2 (Cal vs. Mighigan State), etc.

i'm gonna try a different tactic..penn state is a "descent" team in a pisspoor conf. they wouldn't hold a candle to the sec,,big 12..and pac-10(huh?)..hell, the big east has more quality teams than big 10..wva..cinn...louisville...i'm DONE sticking up for what i believe in. i'm out numbered by a bunch of sec diehards that are oblivious to the fact that there is a northern tier of the united states....some people seriously believe it is 1865 again........yankee haters!!!!! :box:J/K

Plenny, Penn State is doing well this year. Personally I think they would be a 2 loss SEC or Big 12 team. I think starter versus starter you wouldn't see that much difference with the SEC. The differences are in the depth. I think that the standout SEC teams have much more depth than those in the Big 10. A lot of SEC 2nd stringers would be starters and stand outs in other conferences. As far as SEC vs big 12, I don't think they would be putting up quite as many points with the way the SEC plays defense. A one deminsional (sp?) team typically does not do well in the SEC. I could be wrong on that one.

All of that being said and despite the fact that I am a huge UGA fan, it is good to see Penn State doing well. I enjoy seeing the traditional football powers playing well. Except for USC that is, can't stand 'em. They get too much credit for being USC and not for their play on the field. You can't convince me that they deserve their ranking.

Let them see yet again why the SEC owns their azz when it counts. I know we're personally VERY tired of seeing it, but apparently, they just don't get it yet.

I sincerely hope florida gets the chance to play PSU, and FU*KING ANNHILATE THEM in the championship game!!!!

ahh..excuse me, but didn't FLORIDA get their a$$es handed to them by unranked michigan last year in the cap.1 bowl?

Six-point game, plenny... in which Florida still had a chance with two minutes left. Oh wait, that's right... I actually watch the games I comment on. See... this is just the kind of crap I've come to expect. You've brought up this game a half dozen times in this thread, with the intention of trying to argue that it makes up for all the big games where the SEC crushes their Big Ten opponent. Well, it doesn't plenny... it doesn't. ((sigh))

I repeat:

The SEC leads the Big Ten with a 65-46-2 all-time record.

The SEC has a .584 winning percentage versus the Big Ten.

SEC teams are 33-20 vs the Big Ten in bowl games from 1930 to 2007.

Comment on the bolded font only, please. Kthanxbye.
