Seated Rear Delt Machine vs. Seated Cable Rows

Right just a simple noob question here. But in writing my new routine i've put Seated Cable Rows and Seated Rear Delt Machine after one another on one of my days.

Is there any difference between these two exercises?

I honestly feel this is the equivalent of db flyes to db bench press...maybe not a perfect analogy but you should get what I mean.

They are completely different exercises. Granted, posterior delts are used during cable rows, but the lats are the primary mover.

Cheers. i've selected exercises from the choices given in the 'Westside for Skinny Bastards' routine so was surprised to see these too seemingly similar exercises back to back.

Cheers for clearing it up.

Seated Cable Rows dont work your rear delts very much at all... Those are almost all lat. The seated rear delt machine doesn't use any lat at all. You are fine.

All this depends on your body, the machine, and hand placement. The people above are mostly right but in a general sense...it's hard to say exactly what one "works" without seeing you perform the exercise.

Just be sure to finish all rows by squeezing your shoulder blades together and pausing briefly.

Correct...and much depends on form. Done incorrectly, cable rows wil significantly hit rear delts.

Personally my rear delts respond amazingly to the rear delt flies with dumbbells or cable. The key is a smooth controlled rep with no jerking, for me. I just added the exercise back in.

I almost always include a row (sometimes sub snatches) in my program, but I have only used rear delt direct work perhaps 5 months out of my 3 years training...everyone used to come up to me and ask what I did for my rear delts. And it was all just from my limited time performing those rear delt exercises. I say go for it. The rear delts really add a "3d" depth effect to one's physique.
