College Football 2008 season

I am a HUGE Ohio State Buckeyes fan, but I have to concede, that the SEC has just been so dominant as of late.

yeah..that maybe true. however, ohio state and the big 10 need to play an extra game or have a conference championship game because a month layoff is a long time before playing a bowlgame.

Good point. The long layoff definitely worked against OSU the past two years. Of course, a playoff system would fix that... but Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney won't let that happen. Ohio State president Gordon Gee was recently quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as saying, "They will wrench a playoff system out of my cold, dead hands."

Hey, I'm all for tradition. I've been to a few Rose Bowls... but my ultimate take on it is that the Big Ten and Pac-10 need to get over themselves. The times, they are a-changin'. The best Rose Bowl ever was USC-Texas a few years back, and no one outside of Michigan and Ohio minded one bit! The one high-profile guy affiliated with the Big Ten who's pro-playoff is Joe Paterno. That man is all about tradition, but he understands the word "progress."

Usc 41 Osu 20

Yeah, my guess is USC 34 - OSU 17. However, it's not beyond the realm of possibility for a Buckeye win, but they better take advantage of any and all USC mistakes. The Trojans would have to literally fall apart at the seams to blow this game at home. But hey... it happens.

On a side note...

Michigan 77 Notre Dame 73 (or vice versa)

USF over Kansas 37-34.

Bulls Win!!!!!!

It was a great game. I really like Jim Leavitt. He's gotta be the most underrated coach in college football. Talk about building a team from scratch... and in a state dominated by three major universities. I was actually hoping Bama would land him a while back 'cause I didn't think Saban would come. As weak as Rutgers, Pitt, and Louisville look, USF should easily take the Big East this year. Unless WVU can get their act together, then it all comes down to who wins on Dec. 6. I'll be pulling for da Bulls.

USF starts playing (and beating) Miami in 2009. They have the next five years scheduled. Miami's already the 4th best team in their own state... but now it will be official.

As some of you may already know, i work right across the street from Raymond James Stadium in tampa. It was absolute chaos when i got out of work yesterday all around the stadium.

I'm definitely not a usf fan, but i don't care for kansas either. It was a good game, and usf looked very good in the second half. They capitalized on reesing's one mistake. I really think if kansas had just played a bit more conservative there they probably would have pulled the game out, however that's why they play the games to begin with.

Usf probably has a good chance at taking the big east, however i'm born and raised in connecticut, so GO HUSKIES!!!

Okay, I know it's early in the first half... but if Notre Dame cracks the Top 25 for beating up on this sad Michigan team... I'm gonna throw up a little in my mouth. However, I detest Rich Rodriguez, so I'm enjoying the look on his face right now.

God, I'm bitter.

Wow - Georgia looked flat as could be in the first half.

Looked flat the whole game. I do think that's probably one of the better defenses they'll face this year. If you're gonna run the table you gotta win an ugly one every now and then. The last 5 times GA has faced South Carolina the margin of victory has been 7 or less for the winner if my research is correct.

Oklahoma is just pounding Washington. Right now it's USC 35 OSU 3. Can we now PLEASE stop hearing about OSU? USC is looking strong.

I originally had the winner of the UGA/UF game playing USC for the title, but Oklahoma may have something to say about that.

The Texas game should reveal whether Oklahoma is a contender or not. If they are, they'll still have to beat Kansas, improved Nebraska/Oklahoma State teams, and perhaps Missouri. If (big if) USC faulters once, and the SEC beats themselves up, I think a team from the Big 12 might make it all the way to Pasadena this year... I'm just not sure who.

Agreed, i'm SOOOOO sick of hearing about a failed OSU team that never delivers. USC is thankfully handing them a whooping that should eliminate them from any contention what-so-ever.

Man, I hope you're right. But... the Buckeyes need to lose one more game. An 11-1 OSU team with no conference championship to worry about in December may have the luxury of watching the SEC and Big-12 beat themselves up. And the pollsters will be saying, "But they didn't have Beanie Wells...", which we all know would not have made a bit of difference against USC's defense. Sad but true.

So... let's all get behind Wisconsin and Penn State in the month of October... and then pray that they each lose at least twice!

Oh, and for the love of Pete, will someone please beat BYU and Utah so we don't have to worry about hearing the term "BCS-busters" over and f#%king over in the coming months? Kthanx.

With the pure azz whoppin' OSU received, their BCS championship bid is done IMO. They in NO WAY looked like a championship team. Minus "beanie" wells or not, they looked like nothing more than bait for USC tonight.

If florida rolls over UGA, you can expect us to be there. Our schedule is brutal and if successfully completed are more than deserving of a BCS national championship bid.

Granted i agree, lots of good teams out there right now, but i still put tebow far ahead as a leader and difference maker when it counts at this point.

UGA will lose some serious ground, so will OSU. I'm thinking even though the gators were idle, they move up to #3. We shall see. :D

Alabama should crack the AP Top 10 tomorrow. They never get as much love in the coaches' poll. Maybe it's the 12 national championships, 21 SEC championships, and NCAA record 55 post-season bowl game appearances and 31 bowl game victories that creates such resentment.

Just sayin'...

Hmmm... that sounds a lot like what I was hearing in 2005 (recent, right?) and 1999.

Dude, you guys haven't played ANYBODY yet. Don't tell me that Miami is a test of any sort. I'm not sure how you can say that UF is "better on every level right now." How in the world can you claim anything like that this early in the season? Bama's defense looks pretty solid, but I won't make any predictions right now... and I'm not quite sure you guys should either. Take a look back at Florida football history. Every time the Gators get over-confident, they fail to attain Bama's "past achievements." Take the previously mentioned years, for example.

Nah, Notre Dame will enter the polls at #2. (Ughh... I'm only halfway kidding.)

Hey, another "pretender" bites the dust! UNLV 23 - Ariz. St. 20

Ok now, if you're telling me that on paper bama has a better team than it's laughable. Tim Tebow is argueably the best player in college football, not to mention the heisman trophy says so.

Last time i checked we won it all in 2006, so yes, in recent times, the gators HAVE been the better team. In reality nobody else cares about the past accomplisments YEARS ago. It's all about the now, and right now florida is ranked #4. What is bama ranked again?;)

Poor Charlie Weiss, talk about some freak stuff. I hear his ACL/MCL are both torn as a result. :jaw:

Notre Dame certainly took advantage of the turnovers. I work with a dr. that's a huge ND fan, so i'll have to hear about this win all week, lol!

Now you're just sounding like you have blinders on. Football is a TEAM game. Tim Tebow was the best PLAYER last year... and they still choked against Auburn, LSU, and Georgia (who, incidentally, all have better records than UF in "recent" times). So, what's changed? How is it laughable that Bama might be the better TEAM? Man, national championships aren't won on paper. If they were, the Gators would have more than TWO. Florida is not invincible, my friend. Until they prove otherwise, they're still the FOURTH best team in the SEC (based on your definition of "recent").

Records since the start of the 2004 season:

1. LSU: 46-9
2. Auburn: 45-9
3. Georgia: 43-11
4. Florida: 37-13

Teams 1 through 3 ALL beat Florida the "most recent" time they played... as in last year.

I'm sure you'll say, "What if we don't count the 2004 season?" Why not? Was it not "recent" that Auburn got robbed of a chance to play for a national championship even though they went undefeated... something your mighty Gators have NEVER accomplished in their entire football history?

In other words... stop the insanity. :fool2:

Oh, and as for Bama... they were better than Florida in 2005. The Gators were better in 2006. In 2007, they didn't play each other, but they lost close games to the same teams. That means the Alabama - Florida rivalry (although I don't think most Crimson Tide fans consider Florida worthy of "rivalry" status) stands at 1-1-1 in "recent times."

Alabama is obviously rebuilding. Saban didn't get the luxury of having a "full cupboard" like Meyer did when he got to UF. Oh, and UA happens to have the #1 recruiting class for 2008 (Florida was #3). Early on for 2009, Rivals.com has them currently sitting at #10, with Florida back at #19.

So, by your own deranged rationale... Bama is better than Florida in "future times." LOL!

Ok, now you're just being silly. Please point out for me where i referred to football being a one-man show? I stated tebow as being the best player in college football ( or last year as you put it, but i'd argue he still is.) Nowhere did i say that football isn't a team game, so don't confabulate my words here.

Lets look at the strength of that auburn "unbeaten" season. Not overly impressive to me by any means to me. A 1 point win over "louisina state", wow impressive. Oh, and they didn't play florida that year either.

LOUISIANA-MONROE WON 31-0
9-11-04 at Mississippi State WON 43-14
9-18-04 LOUISIANA STATE WON 10-9
9-25-04 THE CITADEL WON 33-3
10-2-04 at Tennessee WON 34-10
10-9-04 LOUISIANA TECH WON 52-7
10-16-04 ARKANSAS WON 38-20
10-23-04 KENTUCKY WON 42-10
10-30-04 at Mississippi WON 35-14
11-13-04 GEORGIA WON 24-6
11-20-04 at Alabama WON 21-13
12-4-04 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
vs. Tennessee @Atlanta, GA WON 38-28
SUGAR BOWL @New Orleans, LA
1-3-05 vs. Virginia Tech WON 16-

I agree florida didn't win some of the close games last year, however their defense being young and very inexperienced is responsible for the majority of that imo. Not to mention the majority of their loses (icluding the LSU) was about as close as it could get regardless. The LSU game also had some VERY questionable spots on 4th and 1.

Seriously, who gives a rats azz what rivals.com has posted for 2009. It's bullsh*t speculation at best. It's 2008 last time i checked. So if florida runs the table with their brutal schedule, and wins it all, do you still think "rivals.com" will have them as #19? :fool2:....better yet though, who cares.

Make all the excuses you want about meyer having a "full cupboard." That means what exactly? Sounds like a pretty lame excuse me. Any given friday/saturday/sunday upsets reign down. That's why they play the games, right?

Lets take a look at the SEC conference championship games (since the SEC split) against Alabama since the early 1990's - present:

Florida has made 8 appearances in the SEC Championship Game, the most of any SEC school, with the most recent coming in 2006. The Gators are 6-2 in those games.

Year Division Championship SEC CG Result Opponent PF PA
1992 SEC East L Alabama 21 28
1993 SEC East W Alabama 28 13
1994 SEC East W Alabama 24 23
1995 SEC East W Arkansas 34 3
1996 SEC East W Alabama 45 30
1999 SEC East L Alabama 7 34
2000 SEC East W Auburn 28 6
2006 SEC East W Arkansas 38 28

Totals 8 (6-2)

So i guess you can say that in RECENT times, when it actually mattered, florida was the better team winning 3 out of 5. ;)

BTW - This is all in good fun! :D

Well, I cant talk about national title picture or great teams, but ND looked good as did Claussen, and they are going to get better week to week. However, the game against USC might be pure bloodshed

Notre Dame certainly took advantage of pulling points off the turnovers, but i really don't think that game said much about either team overall. Notre Dame looked aweful the week before.

USC did look dominant last night though. OSU was effectively run all over, and then some. I can't say i didn't enjoy seeing that. :D

A. You said Florida is better on paper because they have Tebow. That's what you posted! So, Alabama having a MUCH better O-line, better running backs, and better special teams is canceled out by one player (Tebow) in your mind.:wtf:

B. An unbeaten season of any kind should be impressive to a Florida fan. Oh, and Auburn would have owned you that year, just like the last two years:rofl:

C. I was poking fun at your skewed logic.:fool2:

D. The only intelligent thing you stated in your post.:clap2:

You Gator fans should just be taking it one game at a time. You're way too starry-eyed for the 3rd week of the season. Anyway... Go Gators! (I guess), but more importantly, ROOOOLLLL TIDE, ROLL!!!:woohoo:

Okay... Trauma1 and I have decided that we are officially bored with each other, and we're both too stubborn not to have the last word. However, because we desire constant entertainment, we'd like to know...

Any Mountain West, Conference USA, WAC, or ACC supporters out there???

A: Ok - I'll break it down for you. I DID NOT say florida is better on paper because they SOLELY have tebow on their team. This is why i stated you "confabulated" my statements. This is my original statement since you seem to keep "skewing" its implied intent yourself:

Ok now, if you're telling me that on paper bama has a better team than it's laughable. Tim Tebow is argueably the best player in college football, not to mention the heisman trophy says so.

Did you even read what i wrote, or is your inability to comprehend implied statements clearly the issue here? Did you see the word TEAM in there. I did. Where is this tebow is "the reason why uf is better" statmenet that you claim i made? In other words, give it up.

You're seriously wharped if you think the alabama offense has any leg up on UF what-so-ever. Do i really need to name all the weapons florida has on offense? Give me a freakin' break....

B. An unbeaten season of any kind should be impressive to a Florida fan. Oh, and Auburn would have owned you that year, just like the last two years:rofl:

A: Auburn owned florida the last two years huh? Having 2 consecutive 3 point last minute wins is getting owned? Now i'm convinced you're actually the delusional one here.... :fool2:

C. I was poking fun at your skewed logic.:fool2:

A: Skewed? I've seen it in almost every statement you've made. The pot calling the kettle black are we?

D. The only intelligent thing you stated in your post.:clap2:

A: A classic example that now you're just being an a$$. This is all in good fun though, regardless.

GO GATORS!!

My response. ;)

Ok, i admit, this is fun.

Screw the ACC i think its the sorriest of the BCS conferences...but i do like the WAC as a smaller conference they seem to at least be somewhat competitive.

Yes, we'd like to spread the smack talking all around the college football scene. I know you're out there, let the games begin. :hammer:

Yeah, I'll go with that as well. I was hoping Fresno State would pull off the upset last night. Damn kicker!

The ACC is just l-a-m-e. I'm actually hoping for a dominant Florida State to reemerge from the ashes to start spanking everyone else in the conference again. At least that way the conference would have SOME credibility again.

I concur with the ACC. I'm sure florida state will rise on up again in the coming years to clearly dominate the conference.

Hey... where are all the TENNESSEE fans? How come I only see people wearing that crappy orange when the Volunteers win?:toofunny:

He he ........so true. I think they're all still stunned by UCLA's ability to beat them despite 4 int's. :toofunny:

Ya i want miami and fsu to regain some dominance because the acc is so bad right now. Like when i watch i literally can see their lack of speed on d compared to some1 like the SEC

I agree, the only thing ND has going for them is an easy schedule, thats it

Tennessee fans should just look at it in a "glass half-full" kind of way. I mean, at least they didn't play BYU... 'cause the Fightin' Mormons might have put triple digits on the scoreboard!

I had a nightmare the other night that caused me to wake up shivering in a cold sweat. It was 2012... and BYU was playing Notre Dame in the BCS Championship Game. God had an aneurysm and the universe imploded.

Actually Trauma1, I think Tennessee will get the victory next weekend.

You know, 'cause the Titans looked good today and the Texans were horrible against the Steelers last weekend.

Wait...

Yep, Georgia didn't play like #2. However, I really hope they will be undefeated when they show up at tiger stadium (SAME FOR THE TIDE!).

How about the Auburn vs Miss St game?!? 3:2 Talk about a low scoring game!

OSU looked like a high school team playing against USC. Hopefully everyone now sees the OSU hype for what it is.

Okay fellas, just checked out the latest AP poll:

Bama 9
LSU 6
Florida 4
Georgia 3

Bama wins!!!! Bama wins!!!!:icon_lol:

As long as they don't win on the field, I am happy with those numbers!

Nobody trains harder than second best!

Wait... foiled by Auburn once again!

Auburn 10
Bama 9
LSU 6
Florida 4
Georgia 3

Seriously, how dominant is it that the SEC has HALF of the Top 10 teams?!
