Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS)

Hello,

Does anyone know if POIS is linked too imbalanced hormone levels and neurotransmitters?

More can be read about POIS at the nakedscientists forum.

Symptoms are high intense brain fog, headaches/migraines, memory problems, impaired thinking, flu and fever like symptoms, sore joints/muscles, fatigue/exhaustion,
anxiety, tension, sensitivty too light and many more.

These symptoms can last from 1 - 7 days after an ejaculation from either
Sex or Masturbation. Females have also reported these.

Does anyone know any good practioners that could help me and many others with this rare but serious illness?

I do have high Prog, Estrone levels, low cort and dhea but a few other people have good healthy hormone levels yet suffer from POIS too,

I notice that the following hours after ejaculation blood pressure increases for 12-24 hours, shortness of breath, strong anxiety issues, face, neck and shoulder cramp also.

Could this be Excessive dopamine-norepinephrine/epinephrine conversion problem ?

Hope someone can help.

Sounds exactly like overrelease of Histamine.

Thank you very much LeanGuy for the test link as Ive been looking for a full neurotransmitter test for a while now. Will get this tested.

dsade your definetly right about the high histamine levels and I will confirm this with the neuro test.

I have read this same site before. I suspect high histamines (confirmed by neuro test) are contributing to my insomnia... caused by under-methylation. Matrix is the expert.
I agree....and we are eventually working wit an expert here to develops a sub line that addresses this.

Thanks for this link again, I actually just read this article 3 days ago but its good too go over it again. I passed both the high and low Histamine tests but will be getting the Neuro test too make sure.

I have experienced PE for around 10 years (Aged only 24) and my pines is overly sensitive which could mean high histamine levels.

A good article here about Histamine and the website has lots of information on POIS :

I dont agree with all his theories as he makes some assumptions but some are credible wit the medical links provided.

Research has shown that histamine is released as part of the human orgasm from mast cells in the genitals. If this response is lacking this may be a sign of histapenia (histamine deficiency). In such cases, a doctor may prescribe diet supplements with folic acid and niacin (which used in conjunction can increase blood histamine levels and histamine release), or L-histidine. Conversely, men with high blood histamine levels may suffer from premature ejaculations

I am one of those weird cases... I have high histamine but still low libido & mild ED. Even though my hormones are all ok. It is frustrating.

Is clomid not helping or you?
For your sleep problems , try Ginko Biloba. I tried several things for few months for my insomnia, Even after T shots, I could not get proper sleep(also no energy in day time). I told the same thing to doctors, they gave me anti depressants, but they did not work.does nt matter how long i sleep, i dont wake up rested/refreshed.Problem was bad circulation to legs, hands and brain.I tried ginko biloba. It cured my insomnia. With $10 I cured my insomnia.May be insomnia caused my low T. Now I have to stop T-shots and try whether levels will increase or not.

Clomid helped a little, but apparently hormones weren't my only issue. I need to start sleeping to keep my T going too. Wow, I will definately try the ginko... what dose and how long to see sleep improvement (pm me). I do have circulatory symptoms... lightheaded, short of breath, shakiness, tingling hands & feet. BP is also elevated *sometimes*

I didn't mean to take this thread OT, sorry!

I wouldn't worry about taking the tread offtopic, not now it's been 3 years since the OP.

From googling this thread is the worlds best source of info on the topic, minus the allergic reaction explanation that can be an alternative explanation for some (that's a simple skin prick :ugh2: test)

I'm in Argentina, dating a Psychiatrist so I'm well placed right now. I'll investigate hormone tests and that Neuro test. Can you help with translation into Spanish? Anyone here speak Spanish??

Any updates on symptoms people? How are you getting on?

"I have experienced PE for around 10 years (Aged only 24) and my pines is overly sensitive which could mean high histamine levels." PE & Pines = ?

It has more to do with neurotransmitter levels than anything, not an allergy to your own semen per se.

I would say that's incorrect, there are 2 different causes to similar symptoms.

The allergic reaction to me seems very well proven. However, that is the much more rare situation and it has subtly different symptoms. It's important not to get the 2 potential causes confused.

I think the much more common situation is neurotransmitter levels. Semen contains a whole host of stuff for a whole bunch of reasons, even in normal cases. The question is, does it sometimes contain too much?

I'm in what I believe is the best country in the world for beautiful women and with a girl I love. Yet I'm in chastity because of this thing! Scary stuff yeah!

when dealing with these cases you have to look at avenues both mental and biologically. Altered brain chemistry aka malfunctioning autonomic system is most likely the cause along with hormonal in balances, nutritional deficiency, past tramas. With out knowing all the facts it is hard to know where to stArt at
but proper blood testing for thyroid adrenals e2 and general parameters would be a good place to start
