Silva Moving To 205 - What do you think?

IDK about him fighting Chuck that soon, but there is a precedent for this. Everyone thought that Penn would get smashed at WW and he didn't. Andy's striking is good enough to easily be in the top-3 at LHW. He just really needs to work on his wrestling...badly.

Yeah, that's what concerns me the most. Will he be able to retain top position, or even stay active in guard with 205'ers on top of him?

Irvin is a good match-up for him and Andy has hit a spot in LHW where there really aren't many guys with dominant wrestling (Rampage is the only one right now).

Poor decision for him to move up, IMO. He's got a good thing going right now, I wouldn't mess with "a challenge" or anything.

I have to admit I do kind of want to see him get stomped. I like him, but it will be good to see him get sent back like a *****. I like BJ too, but lets face facts, he couldn't compete with Georges right now...

IDk about that. BJ is the only real intriguing match-up for GSP right now. There first fight was a was and it ended in controversy; a perfect set-up for a rematch.

Do they test these guys for Roids/HGH. GSP looks too cut/fast/square jawes with mini ***** tits to be all natural.

Bj versus God? Trick question, BJ is god.

Seriously, BJ could beat a few top 10 LHW's...

I'd love to see BJ against some of the other top LWs, if only for entertainment purposes. Where's the Mouth at? He needs to tell Dana to sign JZ, Shaolin, Aoki and Joachim and have a top-notch LW tourney.

No way BJ would stand a chance with GSP looking this good. I am not seeing it at all...in fact I don't think BJ would beat A Silva. I was never that impressed with BJ to be honest. I mean, he is good, but I don't think he is a great.

I think Robdog meant BJ would lose to GSP due to GSP's superior wrestling, but would beat A.Silva, I'm guessing because of BJ's adeptness for BJJ and dexterity. Maybe hands as well. Though I'm not psychic.

I think the former Pride LW stars are overrated. Alvarez beat Hansen, Diaz beat Gomi, Thomson beat Melendez, Guida beat Aurelio....

BJ stands a very good chance against GSP. GSP looked good against Serra, who's not that great, and Hughes, who has nothing for GSP and we knew it and is past his prime. GSP might win but BJ has at least a 40% chance.

One of the coaches over at Unit 2 has trained with Silva and he said the spider walks around at 225. Here is the link on the speculation that if Spider wins his next would be Liddell Invalid Link Removed

I don't buy it that Anderson weighs anything over 205. 225? How could that be? Look at him next to other dudes, I just don't see how thats possible. If Anderson walks at 225, then Franklin walks at 235.

I am telling you this comes from reliable people. The fight card for UFC 64 listed the spider at 6'2" 205 lbs.

Edit**** From what was told to me is that 205 is his first cut, then down to 185. All from 225 at the beginning of camp.

Yeah, I'm not trying to discredit you in any way. You could be right, I just don't see it.

I remember when they used to list Anderson at 5'11, and he would be towering over his 5'9 opponent.

Spiders own website lists him at 5'11" strategy is in many forms.

Yeah, Leben is listed at 5'11'' and Anderson was like 3-4'' taller. I heard he weighed around 210-215 before training camp.

I just got a really bad feeling for Chuck's future, and I'm a big Liddell fan. I was really hoping for chuck to get one more shot at Rampage, but I think Silva will put the nail in the coffin on Chuck's career if that fight happens. The reason I say I'm a Liddell fan is because of the way he fights the same fight no matter who he fights, you know what you are going to get, it's like he's saying here I am, here is what I'm going to do, now beat me at it. But I think A. Silva is better at it.

Those are all granted, except Gomi looked like crap. I don't think prime-Gomi would have lost. That still leaves at least Aoki, JZ, and Shaolin, all of whom I think would be great fights for BJ.

I think Chuck is done too. Dana White is the smart one. He fights guys WAY too much to give them a chance to become stars. They burn out. A fighter should fight 3 times a year, 4 is just too much for most fighters. I kinda saw it coming with Chuck, he was getting too big and I think the smart thing that Dana White does is not allow any one person to get too big. I think this is smart, but also limits the UFC for the long term, since people like their hero's to stay around for a while. Chuck I think just got burned out like all the UFC fighters do. Again, this is smart because not one person becomes the face of the UFC, but also I think limits the overall total popularity.

Really? I honestly think they fight too little. 6 months between belt defenses has been known to happen in the UFC. Look at some of the upcoming cards - no title fights. There should be no reason not to have a title fight on almost every single card. You have LW, WW, MW, LHW, HW, 5 weight classes. With how many events there are in a year, and using proper rotation, every (or almost every) card should have a title fight while still giving enough rest.

I think you are on to it.

However I don't think that Dana wants to limit star power but wants to exploit star power, I suppose we are saying the same thing. It is surreal how it sometimes his hype strategy follows that of the WWE.

I also think Dana was irresponsible in integrating the PRIDE fighters into the UFC.

Well, he has called Vince McMahon a genius before, and obviously emulates his business strategy.

the problem is some of those weight divisions are so dominated that who do you fight @ LW,MW,WW.

Its gotten to a point where people dont want to see them fight anybody but each other. You can only have so many penn vs sherk, or silva vs. franklin type fights for many times. And if you fight more title fights in the other divisions to make up for it, then i could see to many problems for it. That where the White comes in he needs to find or get some of the better fighters on the market, if he could.

That's one of the issues - Dana has abased himself, and the UFC included in that, to most of the top tier, non-UFC fighters out there.

Yeah and they will pay for it eventually. One word Affliction.

I don't think any intelligent MMA fan was under the impression that Zuffa buying out PRIDE was going to be good for the sport as a whole; however, I think many of us, myself included, were at least intrigued by some of the potential match-ups - specifically at 205. Unfortunately, many of the dream match-ups we were expecting panned out to be less than expectations afforded. I think that was only compounded by the amount of attrition and non-response from other prominent fighters due to Zuffa's bully tactics. Unfortunately, I feel that many of the match-ups we were clamoring for may never occur. It's really unfortunate, IMHO.

I agree more recently, but last few years they seemed to fight the hell out of those guys. Chuck specifically, I think they fought too much. It has been different in the past 6 months... Now the PPV's are pretty lame if you ask me. They have one a month and it is like "who's fighting now"...no one? Ok, I am not paying $50 for it then. Things are changing.

Sounds like what everybody was saying about BJ back at UFC 46 when he moved up to 170 to face Matt Hughes...Just playing devil's advocate

I've heard 215 on more than one occasion.

It seemed to me that when UFC overtook PRIDE it wasn't about building a better organization, it was about dominating your rival.

The only "dream" that happned was Wand/Chuck. Very unforunate for the sport.

Henderson-Anderson and Hendo-Page were too and some weren't their fault like Shogun and CC flopping and Shogun-Chuck was scratched. But overall you guys are right, the UFC didn't do the best job securing all of the top talent especially at HW. Their LW division could be ridiculous if they had gotten all of the Bushido guys.

Heavies, I think you're right that to some extent it was just about beating/eliminating their top competition.

That's what I meant by Aoki, JZ, Shaolin and so on coming to the UFC Jas; I don't think they'd necessarily all be real contenders for the belt, but the match-ups would be amazing.

I'd love to see some of the intriguing match-ups that would bring. It would be very, very good for the sport, IMO.

Oh, yeah I agree. I just went off on a tangent earlier because most of the rankings you see online heavily favor the former Pride guys. I think it's very skewed. Sherk wasn't even ranked in some before his loss to BJ :fool2: But the matchups would be amazing, no doubt.

I'd love to see:

Shaolin/Huerta
Sherk/JZ (don't ask me why)

I think both Gomi and Kid are overrated though. I'd have different fighters taking their place on the P4P Top 10, but that's just me.

I don't know about Kid. Thing is, he could probably fight at 130, but he's fought at LW. I'd love to see Torres/Kid. Gomi probably shouldn't be ranked that high, but when he's on he's no joke. Sometime's it seems like he doesn't really "show up", but Gomi at his best is tough to deal with.

That's true, but he's fighting in such a thin org., and has not fought for a long time. If that type of logic applies to knocking Fedya down, it has to apply for Gomi.

That's true about Kid, dude is tiny; even still, there are other fighters, IMO, who should/could be at the 9/10 spot (going on Sherdog).

And why hasn't Shaolin fought since Gesias? You guys are always more tuned to the camp knowledge and rumors than I am.

Yeah, I remember that too, but that was almost 10 months ago now. Must have been serious?
I would assume. I don't really know why he hasn't returned to the ring. Granted, K-1's MMA is no longer around, but FEG also runs DREAM, so IDK WTF the deal is.
