I have ordered BSN True Mass Weight Gainer it was recommended by a friend but at $35.00 plus shipping for a
9 day supply (taking 2 a day)seems a little high. What would you recommened to bulk up at a affordable rate? Or is that about what i would pay for quality stuff. I am talking a good multi vitamin and fish oil and NSI ZMA Ultra at night I'm 6'3 and down to 190 lbs and need to add weight. Thanks for any advice Im 48 and need to get back in shape.

i have used cytogainer for yrs now and has always done me good. the servinigs per price is very affordable. you can get it at some places for 26.99 just got to search.

The problem I have with weight gainers is alot of the calories and carb source are from sugar like carbs, such as maltodextrin. They have their place immediately post workout, but spiking insulin all day is not adviseable.

I would find a product that has slow digesting carbs, or make your own with oatmeal.

its best ot make your own for example i make my own: 5 tbl spoon oats, 1/2 banana, 2 tbl spoon Peanut butter, 8 oz skim milk, 3 scoops whey. its delicious and hugely nutritious with nothing bad. also whole foods absorb by the body much quicker than these "weight gainer shakes"

well i opened this thread to say that whole foods or making your own shakes is best but it has alrdy been said lol.

As said above :P Make your own shakes! dont waste your money on weight gainers when you can do it yourself! Just buy a blender :)

Yea, for christ sakes make your own.

Mine is similar to yours...

2 scoops choc whey
2 tbl natural PB
1/2 banana
1/2 cup oats (powedered in a coffee grinder)
1/2 cup skim milk
water/ice to taste and consistency.

texaslifter...wal-mart and target sell whey protein cheap...my question is does the brand/maker of the whey really matter on the quality of whey? im in college and cant afford the pricey stuff (ON, BSN, Muscle Tech, etc.)

im sure it does for flavor, consistancy, etc...however whey protein is whey protein. the generic will serve its purpose

yea i know the flavor will vary depending on brand, but im concerned about quality of whey protein. i read that there is a difference in whey, depending on if its isolate, fractionated, etc...?

to be honest? unless your training for a competition....whey is whey.
also....try and stay away from protein powders if u can. your body metabolizes and utilizes whole foods so much better than powders and mrp's

instead of investing in whey protein buy a carton of eggs for 1/4 the price and hard boil them and eat those as snacks throughout the week.
-my buddy (not texaslifter89) went through 2 cartons of eggs a week and WO'ed 2x a day 5x a week for 3 months (his summer break) and he put on 30 pounds of lbm

hit up local sup shops and look for expiring powder...sometimes those bastards (like me) hide or don't mark it so they can get it. i just got two 10lb bag of ON...thats 20lbs fellas, for 24 bucks at GNC! BTW...their p-slin is only $40.

i use champions whey. but also walmart sells a brand called 6 star. its 50G/serving and only like $22

you do know that 6 Star is Iovate!

oh...oatmeal and yogurt are great ways to add cals to the whey. yogurt (+10g pro.) is loaded with enzymes too...horray. when i was starting i used to do two scoops whey, store brand low fat yogurt cup, whole milk and 2 eggs, glutamine and creatine every morning before breakfast...hell of a way to start the day!

My Lean gaining shake goes like this....

2 scoops whey Isolate
1 cup cooked oats
1 tbls peanut oil
1 serving cocoa
1 tbls cinnabun :)

home made gainers are the best. cheap and effective.
-1-2 scoops whey (choco)
-1 scoop casin (choco)
-1cup oats (2-3 cups oats pre work out/high carb days)
-olive oil(amount depends on desired cals)
-skim milk (enough to reach desired consistancy)
mine average 700-1000 cals depending on how much EVOO i use. almost no sugar. tasts like a cookie!
