People are ****ed up these days

I just got back from having dinner. On my way to the place I was going to eat, I was about 25 ft or so away and I saw someone get hit by a car. The car drove off very fast and I couldn't get the licence plate, just the physical description.

The person wasn't hurt, and there were not any other people that saw it other than me. So yeah, I just gave my description of the car and that was that. It was too far away for anything else.


That's pretty shitty how some people are. At the same time it reminds me that the world itself is just a shithole.
 
I disagree with all your sentiments. Thats like saying I hate all damn arab's because of 9/11, when in fact it was a small faction that caused the hell.

But hey, puting all of the human race in a catagory because of one incident isn't at all stereotypical or prejudice.

One incident among many. There are murders that occur every day. It's in our nature to destroy ourselves. There is nothing to disagree against.

Nothing to disagree upon... your whole argument is wrong.

It is not in our nature to destroy ourselves... IN FACT it is in our nature for self preservation.... call it an animal instinct if you will.

One incident among many... in a 6 BILLION world population. Not really a signifcant statistical report.

Not saying the person isnt a jackass, but your worldly assumption is paramount to prejudice.

Human instinct is different than what we actually do. I agree with you that on a very, very, very primative basis that we are about self-preservation, however we operate in a much different manner. Either way, I am not optimistic anyway.


It is not this incident that caused me to think this way. I've been seeing **** like this occur everyday for a very long time. It was just this that really pushed me.

Not disagreeing with you that there is a angering amount of disinterest in human life. Just saying the good out weights the bad, a small faction cannot overshadow the greater. I say this because of the sheer support I see for good, when I walk for the march of dimes, or the walk for autism, the astounding numbers of people that show up, when the cause doesnt even affect them is amazing.

I do think that a lot of the intrisic events in question is a persons way of preservation of the way that person lives, maybe not self preservation, but way of life preservation. This can be seen all the way back to the crusades.

Self-preservation....what about homeless or poor people ? I can't remember the last time someone said, 'Shlt, that guy looks poor and struggling, I better go to the ATM asap so he dosen't starve or atleast so he can buy himself some clothes.'


I suppose when push comes to shove (extremes) people act in this matter, but 99.99% of the time it is a 'all for one and one for all' mentality.

I give to homeless. In fact some woman with her child were hitting me up for money last week which I gave them some without hesistation. I don't know what her circumstances are or what she'd spend the money on. I don't care. I just know that someone at the time was in need and I had the resources to help so I did.


There were a ton of people passing her up before I gave.


I know this aspect can be argued, but I don't honest beleive everyone is 'good' inside.
 
Help and assistance extends beyond large scale charity events. To be honest, I feel like those things are a publicity stunt to a certain extent.

And you can think how you wish. I have seen the walk for autism personally affect my (Soon to be) brother in law (Fragile-X Syndrome), and how much the march of dimes does for baby care and salvation is non-debatable.

Not saying it doesnt go all the way down to personal level. I have volunteered for the fisher house (Google it) more times than I can count, and have given to homeless more times than none.

I am not trying to say I am some saint or anything, but this seems to have turned into personal good vs. good.

But then again conspiricy theory does extend beyond the message boards.

I'm pretty certain people were always fvcked up, it's not like it's some new sh*t, it's just not what you expected as a kid, ya know.
 
And like adams I run for the march of dimes, I have volenteered my time for the special olympics for over 12 yrs.......I do the run for autism and numerous other runs in the area, I give to the homeless and I also help out in the soup kitchens on holidays........I think there is good in MOST people, it's doing something with it that seems to be the problem these days!!!!!!!!!!!

Infact SO is this weekend at a local college!!!!!!! :) I am working this weekend (hospital) so I missed my fav parts but I did go and volunteer this AM for the swimming and the softball throw :)

They usually have them here on base, so I usually volunteer to be a sponsor. So fun, and man, they crack me up all the time. The ending party is always the funnest.

I completely agree with you here. While it may not always be visible on the surface, there is good that lies within us all. Working in the emergency room for so many years i've witnessed good in people that i would never have imagined.

I also agree with Mr. Adams that humans are very much a self-preserving species in general. When and if humanity is ever faced with a seriously cataclysmic event, you would see even those most distant from all that is good pull together for the sake of mankind.

It's often that the good in people doesn't show itself until faced with the worst of times......

My wife also hates it when i shave my head(Well i don't bic it, but close enough haha). However, to deal with the florida heat it's a necessity at times. :D

Yeah, heres some local headlines from where I live,


Invalid Link Removed (This one was an 18 year old kid who did a home invasion with a machette and almost killed a 10 year old girl and her father)

For every f...ed thing that happens there are twenty acts of kindness, it all depends what you want to see in your life. News stories are all about ratings, people don't wanna see stories about some happy people walking on the beach holding hands being in love or something, we wanna see who killed and raped who, accidents on the free ways, etc.
 
It is not even limited to local news. That is just a portion of it. What about genocide that occurs in different countries throughout the world ? Anyone ever see the movie 'Blood Diamond' ?


I respect the fact that a lot of ppl want to believe the notion that there is a lot of good in the world. Not saying that there isn't, but there is an equal amount of bad that exists as well.

I do personally believe that humanity has been cheapened excessively and will continue to be as time continues.


Abortion being legal ? Need I say more ?
 
I attribute 'good' as being what one does or does not do in a situation where no one else will ever know what you did.
 
It's too bad that it usually takes a tragedy or more to get people to notice and take action.

The mention of genocide is irony. Because it is complained about, but when we (The US) wishes to step in and do something, the same people complain about that. Interesting indeed.

Yes I have seen blood diamond. Again, we are quantifying 6 BILLION people by the declination of a few. Is it terrible? Yes it is, but does it define man as a whole, not in the least.

Humanity is only cheapened by the turning of a blind eye to the good in the world. Seeing what CNN and MSNBC reports.

I despise the chinese government. Should I despise the chinese people?

That's the problem in this world. People only seem to see all the bad that occurs, and remain blind to the good that goes on around them everyday.
 
if it is not in our (human race) nature to destroy ourselves then why does the human race have a history of war and killing, why do countries stock pile massive amounts of nucular weapons that are only meant to kill, why are people eating and drinking themselves to death, addictions that lead to death are at an all time high, a lot of people don't help each other anymore unless there's $$$ in it for them

on the other hand there are some of human kind that are self preservators however we need more that respect human life, it's just a shame that those in power and those who profit from war, ill health and our "basic" rights to life don't see it that way and only see each of us in $$$ terms only.

i for one believe in the human race and that no matter what happens, the strong will always survive and i don't mean physically strong either.

i believe in the basics of karma and that way goes around comes around.
